Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

Wow, now the Dems have a Petition drive to raise awareness even more about ol Rush. What a way to provide FREE publicity for the one they don't like. All it'll accomplish is more listeners tuning in to hear what he has to say. I live in the good ol south, and down here, ol Rush is loved by many (not by me) and and many of his listeners feel that he does no wrong. It's almost like a cult the way they talk about him. The last thing we need is the Dems getting them going even more, people will take him even more seriously now that the DEMS take him seriously too. That's how they will see this, wow, way to go, smart move....not

I agree with the DCCC petition, questions Limbaugh hateful
tirade against an elected official who are trying to correct some of our
worst ecomonic problems we are facing. Rush is also saying that he
wants the this president to fail in the war on terror. I believe his actions give confort to the enemies of the USA. His sponsors must also be held responsible. Thank You.

So the Dems believe in free speech, unless, of course, you disagree with them.

Rush Limbaugh is what you'd get if Bill O'Reilly and Ann Coulter had a child together.

Limbaugh falls into the category of an F3 host (Fat Fascist Fool). It is a shame that his asinine comments get such a lot of airing from the press. When he starts to realize that because some degree of sanity and control has to be applied by the federal Government to curb the excesses that a totally unregulated market encourages, then Enron and sub-prime economics will continue to proliferate to the detriment of all of us.

Great attitude! A real American Patriot!

What are your wishes for the rest of America? And are you rooting for Al Qaeda, too?

How about some real journalism; get this twisted, self-absorbed psycho off the airwaves.

Either take some more Oxycontin, Rush, or lay off it altogether.

Let's face it, there are some who also use conservatism to hide their prejudice. I think when Rush made this comment, we got a glimpse inside the facade.

Really, it was a comment that shows a very childish state of mind. Now he has the opportunity to face up to it, dust off that inner mirror and take a good look. We're pulling for you, Rush. I admit, I've never cared for your show, nor most your views, and it's always frustrated me how you appeal to a certain segment of the population and multiply their ignorance instead of giving them light. Bad Karma, my friend, but you're at a crossroads and I, for one, hope you head in a better direction.

I would gladly sign such a petition. Limbaugh is a hypocrite and a moron.. Wasn't it him who said that it's "unpatriotic" not to support the President, who at the time was Bush? But I suppose according to him it's okay to not support President Obama, although Obama is a million times the man that Bush could ever hope to be. And does Mr. Limbaugh also not realize that if Obama fails.. America fails? And don't you live in America, sir? Shouldn't you want the best for your country and your fellow citizens? Absolutely sickening..

I'm not sure that a petition is a good idea. It's more like catering to a child that is having a screaming fit. Limbaugh did not get what he wanted so, he is pouting like a two year old. It amazes me that the GOP and it's supporters, support this guy. What a clown!

It's time to get this jackal off the air. He has no desire for Obama or our country to succeed at anything. All he cares about is inciting bad will and contempt. I can't stand him.

The Democratic committee should rather keep Rush Limbaugh's mouth going, it seems everytime he shoots his mouth off, he drives more life long republicans like myself into the Democratic fold.

I am a 69- year-old foreign born US citizen woman. I came to this country very young and have loved all this country has offered me and what it stands for!

Some years ago there was a phrase used abroad to describe individuals from this great country who had false delusions of supremacy, but in reality were just ignorant, obtuse and petty... A book was written with that title as well. The phrase was "UGLY AMERICAN'.

I always thought it unfair and false to say this about the majority of our people. Sadly enough… today... Rush Limbaugh perfectly fits this description.

Why doesn't anyone comment about Michael Savage?

We don't need an "anti-Limbaugh" petition.....it will do nothing but help his ratings. Refusing ;to listen to him (and telling his corporate network why) will do much more.

It is a start and hopefully more can come of this right wing idiot. Limbaugh has one goal, cause dissent and make his view the only view. Instead of being an objective person, and admitting the last 20 years of free market policies with no controls, no government action, have in fact, put us exactly where we are today, in a financial Tsunami.
Now, Limbaugh is trying to stir up his cronies and losers in the right wing to push his beliefs down our throats. Maybe those folks who sponsor this show may want to reflect on who and what they sponsor.
He is just another example of right wing politics, such as when Bohner- before meeting Obama, already was telling his Republicans to not support the plan. Is that what they call objective review?

I'd love to sign that petition!!! "THE MOUTH" has been spewing anti-American words for quite awhile. Saying people should cause violence at the Democratic Convention, calling Obama a muslim etc. Now this..I say get him off the air and let him take all the drugs he wants!!!!

I have been thinking about fat-man's comments. If anyone on TV or radio had said something similar in regard to our previous Clown President, they would probably been arrested and accused of being a terrorist, spy, anti-American, you name it and would probably have been put in a federal prison somewhere. I really don't know if fat-man's comments were taken out of context or not but so what if they were. HE never takes any comment out of context does he?
