Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

Rush, under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, has the right to say whatever he wants.

This is NONSENSE! Just what Rush wants – democrats who are scared/nervous of him. Rush doesn't care how many americans sign a petition because over 60 million listen to him every day (I'm not one of them). He is an ignorant, arrogant, ***hole and this type of publicity makes him feel more important than he's already made to feel. Why are we surprised that he wants Obama to fail? This is the same guy who wanted Hillary to win the nomination to secure victory for McCain -and he doesn't even like him! Stop being weak America!

If President Obama fails, the American people suffer. I guess Limbaugh wants the American people to suffer!

If Dems focused on getting stuff done instead of putting $335 million for STD education into economic stimulus plans then Rush would not have any legs to stand on. Yet they just validated his statements about government handouts and socialistic programs. Duh.

As much as I loathe the guy, he must be reveling in the attention. Better might be just ignore him, don't listen to him. Limbaugh has been a jerk for years, but he plays the publicity game well, and the Dems' petition merely serves to bolster his presence. His $37M salary needed to be justified after the election, so his remarks are doing nothing but make him and his bosses happy.

Well what else would you EXPECT from a so called ...self absorbed "Christian man". Why would any human desire failure for another (regardless of what is referenced?) Mankind is at war with each other and Mr. Limbaugh is your typical example of this..pure and simple!

Thank God we have choices and can think for ourselves, instead of being led by someone who is fortunate enough to get "air space" but too stupid to use it wisely!

I don't agree with what Rush said, but I will defend his right to say it. This is still the United States of America and the far right has as much right to free speech as the far left.

Limbaugh is simply mourning. Let him. He doesn't matter until someone says he matters.

You forgot to mention that Rush Limbaugh has a petition against the DCCC. I will be interesting to see whose gets more signatures. Will you report it if Libaugh's has more? Probably not.

How true is the notion that someone could be so educated until they border along the lines of being stupid.

I'm truly starting to see some truth to this in regards to Rush.

    Shame on Rush...

By all means, the democrats need to use their new power to supress this kind of destructive speech. The stakes are too high right now! There is no room for dissent. Rush's fear mongering is hate speech and it must be stopped!

Rush is on the money with this issue. Why support a president who continues to chip away at the constitution and place our country in even more danger with a stimulus package that has hidden agendas.
Stop drinking the obama koolaid and educate yourselves. We must reduce this government and end this spending. And...do yourselves a favor...look into the truth about the "federal reserve." It's scary stuff and must be stopped.

Limbaugh is a notorious self-promoting propagandist for the extremist right-wing not to mention an infamous drug abusing criminal and hypocrite.

Who cares what a wannabe right-wing terrorist leader like Limbaugh thinks or says?

This guy is clearly on the edge. How do we let this person have a forum to spew hate? He is un-american. (Yeah I said it). It's people like this that keep racism, sexism, and division a part of our society. We don't need it! We don't want it! The Oxy has taken over this man.

why would anyone take what he said to heart? He is part of the 15 to 18% minority that still think "W" was sent from GOD.

Each time he opens his mouth you can tell that the spin is starting. He lost ... the far right lost .... let him try and find his way BACK TO COMMON GROUND AMERICA.

Limbaugh is becoming obsolete anyway. If the right want him as their leader again....well....Ha!

Anyway, Limbaugh is a big fat, lying, racist, right-wing piece of garbage. He will never be the man Obama is.

since Mr. Rush wants our President to fail, we want God to bless Mr

The Limbaugh attitude is why the GOP failed to win the election. The divisiveness spewed by Palin and MCain during the primaries put me off the Republicans big time.
