Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

This just plays into the fat man's hands. He has no influence if you don't give him any. You just solidified more support for him among right wing knuckle draggers.

We must remember R.L. is only a comic entertainer. He has no understanding of government or anything except how to make money on negativity. We should all just turn him off, stop reporting anything he says as if it was news and wait for him and his millions of dollars to fade away.

He's a tantrum-throwing gasbag. Why give him any attention whatsoever?

I don't know about President Obama, but I'm certainly frightened that a drug-addled, truth-challenged gasbag who cares more for the welfare of his corporate masters than for that of his country is considered the voice of reason not only by his dwindling number of listeners, but by many in the mainstream media.

The Dems just don'y get it! Rush is an entertainer. He's earning a living. What he does must be working to keep his listeners and hence his job. Give it a rest.

God Bless Rush Limbaugh....stay strong brother and fight the good fight. Keep the commies at bay. Next thing you know, they will want to silence any opposition. Heres to hoping Obama's policies fail miserably....kind of like they have already all over the rest of the world.

Rush is more irrelevant now than he ever has been. The mainstream media would be better off ignoring him instead of giving him credibility by allowing him to get headlines. His audience are only the die-hard right wing extremists who aren't going to change their minds anyway. Talking about them just makes it sounds like there are more of them than there actually are.

We should be focusing on what we all have in common instead of highlighting our differences. Pundits on the extreme left are as guilty as Limbaugh. The last 8 years should give everyone a pretty clear idea of where divisive politics will get us.

Plain and simple, Rush Limbaugh is a traitor to the American way. I'd pay money to shove my fist in his fat, disgusting gob. Swinish, hypocritical, pill popping pig.

Yeah, I hate my country enough to want the president to fail too. Idiot. Even those of us who despised George Bush were (are) affected by his failures and lamented everyone of them.

How is what Rush Limbaugh said any different than what the hundreds (thousands) of people said about Bush. There was nothing but hatred for Bush, but of course, that was okay because the main stream media was fueling it.

Rush Limbaugh is a private citizen. Just like Joe the Plumber. Why is our government going after private citizens, exercising their 1st Amendment rights?

  14. Rush Rocks!!

I agree with Rush that I don't want Obama's Socialist agenda to be successful. I WANT HIM TO FAIL IN HIS EFFORTS TO SCREW UP OUR FREE MARKET ECONOMY.

They can do whatever they want, but Rush will prevail. In fact, this petition will make his show more popular because of the free publicity.

Limbaugh is concerned with one thing and one thing only – making money. He could care less about this country.
One more observation – why is it that the only people that listen to this clown are white males?

This Village Idiot, Limbaugh, would be speechless if he is ignored as he should be. I wonder what he would have to complain about after the economy turns around. He doesn't deserve all the attention he is getting. I think his problem is that someone is putting something in his metamucil.

Who cares what he thinks? He's an ignorant windbag like Ann Coulter who needs to get attention to stay on the radio and sell books.

The best way to deflate windbags like Rush and his clones is to avoid giving them any more notoriety.

    Isn't that obvious?

To be perfectly honest, I think they should not wory about "the Rush"
Let him spew his hatred from that sewer mouth of his, and that will
turn more republicans away from their party, and go with the Dems
    when election time rolls around.

I think that we give old Limbaugh to much attention, we make him more important then he is; he does not speak for all America or most of America so why are we feeding into to his BS. He is only as powerfull as we make him. I say treat him like you would food poisoning take something and it goes away in a couple of days.
