Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

When did Limbaugh become relevant again? Someone please remind me. Also when does that has-been windbag have the time to host a radio show with all the time he spends being addicted to illegally-perscribed pain killers?

Limbaugh is an idiot. One has to wonder who funds his salary because I can't image anyone really takes this guy seriously.

Wishing for our president's failure, Limbaugh is either crazy or unpatriotic. He might as well wish for the down fall of the United States all together.

It is clear now that Limbauch is now the worst patriot in this country and his influence on less educated people, that do not know he is a clown, endangers the country safety.

The only way to put an end to the rantings of that obese drug addict is to boycot any and all sponsors of his radio show. A list of all sponsors of his show should be posted as soon as possible.

For years Mr. Limbaugh and his likes have divided our country with their hate rhetoric...I would like to think of these hate mongers more as pyromaniancs...each day he pours gas on whatever will enflame the American public. "the slanderer kills a thousand times!".

Obama would like Rush to fail as would all democracts. Democrats really want a return of the "Fairness Doctrine" to squelch any opposing views. Of course, the Fairness Doctrine would only be aimed at talk radio. If television and hollywood were included, 80% of all tv news would disappear. I would also love to see socialism fail as it already has everywhere it has been tried. Obama policies equal socialism, I'm with Rush, if Obama succeeds in legislating all his ideas, America will be sunk forever.

Obama isn't frightened of you dirtbag... no more then anyone should be frightened of some crazy person running amuck in the streets waving a gun...a radio microphone in your case.

Most people understand you rant and rave just for the money you make from being the 'crazy right wing nut on the radio'. It's a job. Limbaugh has his crazy followers, but most sane people don't take him seriously as to his content. He's just dangerous when he stirs his followers to do violent actions.

We have Free Speech in America... so he doesn't need to be shut up... but he should be called out for being the drug addicted hate filled lying nut job he is.

Maybe we should do some of the things that Rush Limbaugh says. We can't afford to just keep printing money. After living in Argentina during their high inflation where the Argentine government printed a one million paso bill and the value of it was only $100US at the time it was printed. Then seeing the same bill go down in value to where it was only worth $ 10US I have very different view of money. You don't spend money you don't have. Some where some how the congress needs to control itself. I understand in this time of hardship each one has been given a $90,000 increse to run their offices. They could start their and then as a way to help they could give back their raises. Socialism is not the way out. Help people start factories and teach people to buy American. If we are as good as we seem to think why do we support China by buying every thing from there?

The voters of our country have made clear that they "want" and "expect" moderation in our nation's capitol. The extreme and devisive rhetoric of the past 8 years has not only paralyzed our government, it has been responsible for our inability to move forward in constructive ways.

It is people like Rush on the far right, others on the far left, who should be failing. They are simply keeping the pot stirred, thereby making them rich and fulfilling their own attitude of self aggrandizement on puffed up egos. They are part of what is wrong in America.

This is crock. What happened to the freedom of speech? Limbaugh has every right to his opinions and has every right to express them. Of course President Obama needs everyone's support, as long as what is being done is within the best interests of our country and its people. What at first may appear to make things better may in fact make things worse. If President Obama is telling people to not listen to Limbaugh then I feel it is cause for concern. He shouldn't be using his influence in this manner. So what would President Obama do if a large group of people were saying the same things as Limbaugh? Would he boycott them too?

Hey Rush. Did it ever occur to you that you have listeners who have been laid off,are trying to hold on to their homes and still send their kids to college? By hoping our President fails means you hope the country fails. If the country fails, nobody will be able to afford to put your on the radio....you lose too.

    Ex listener for life.

Limbaugh is one of the richest men in America and he's telling the poorest of people in America who listen to him that he wants the President to fail. That really is just a sad. And to think people listen to that man everyday and think he is wise. Sad, just sad.

The Dems would have been better off ignoring Rush Limbaugh's comments. This type of competition is what he lives for. This will be fuel for his talk show and will keep his numbers/ratings up – which are all that really matters. If his ratings were in the toilet he wouldn't be on the air.

I am not afraid of Rush Limbaugh. He is irrelevant to where this country is going and is not a patriot and serves the useless purpose of propoganda and self-promotion. He is only concerned about his $40,000,000 paycheck, misinformation and nothing else. Now let's stop talking about him and covering him in the news and giving him any additional media coverage for his show from now on.
