Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

I try to listen to conservative talk radio objectively ,because I want to know what their differences are with the rest of society and why. Instead of listening to informed and rational thinking hosts, I hear very very hateful divisive and spiteful opinions. These conservative talk show hosts encourage stereotypes and labeling more than anything. As an American, I do not understand why it is acceptable for anyone to announce in a national media outlet that they hope that OUR President fails. This agenda is pretty clear-since your guy didn't win, you want to spoil it for the guy who won. ****News flash****** It's not about the Democratic Party or the Republican Party nor President Obama. It's about making a better U.S.A!!!!! A better U.S.A is what we all want right?

The President failing would lead to much harder times for Americans that we are seeing right now. What true American would hope for somthing like that? Hoping the President fails has to be the most blatent Anti-American statement made in recent memory.

So, Rush wants President Obama to fail? Well, we Democrats would like to see Rush himself fail. He must not like history in the making? So be it, Rush Limbaugh can lay low and below and watch his battery power with his Cochlear Implant – President Obama is likely to succeed in his plan, rather Rush likes it or not.

I would sign this! He is our Commander and Chief and we need to stand behind him and do our best to get this country turned around. This is not all on his shoulders. We all bear the responsibility of making the best of things and trying to make things better. It does not matter if you voted for him or not. I did not vote for Bush last time but I did not sit and pout about him winning. I got behind my government and made the best of it. Limbaugh is way out of line and if I had my way he would be deported...LOL!

No matter if you voted for President Obama or whether you like him or not, you should not wish for him to fail, because if he fails the whole entire country fails and pays the price. Rush Limbaugh is a moron.

Rush Limbaugh is a wind-bag. He does not care about our country, he only feeds the hate of a small sector of our society.

This just shows that Rush doesn't care at all about this country. All he cares about is himself.

Petition away, but every time Rush lies or makes a bias statement, simply file Form 2000 with the FCC. His sponsors and member stations will feel the heat.

And just to think, it was only just a few months ago that Limbaugh, O'Reilly, and co. would call Democrats "haters" for not supporting the President. Limbaugh, support our President. If you do not support our President, you are not patriotic! (At least that's what I heard the last 8 years from you and co.)

THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY. Limbaugh has a right to voice his disaproval of Obama. You Obamanots are SCARY with your fanatism over this guy. I am sorry to break the news to you: OBAMA IS A HUMAN BEING JUST LIKE THE REST OF US. He is not a superhero/demigod/savior/messiah, etc... I advise you all to tune in to Limbaugh's Radio show and you will soon realize how the mainstream media ALWAYS takes his quotes OUT OF CONTEXT. You guys spent 8 years trashing Bush, now it's OUR turn to scrutinize and critize your guy. DEAL WITH IT.

I stop paying attention to Rush a long time ago. I discovered that he likes to pick at one side and one side only. Does not allow tolerance in some areas and is overcritical of anything democratic. He thinks only his views are important and or right . Therefor I no longer listen to him.

Defender's of Limbaugh said the negative comment is made in context regarding economic policies? So do they hope the economic policies of Pres. Obama fail? This country needs help and these people want the policies to fail, ie the economy to continue to falter?
I am amazed at the hypocrisy of these so called "patriotic Americans".

  21. Michael J,

DCCC have too much time on their hands....they are giving him free publicity and making him more money. Just ignore him already!

I disagree with some of the Presidents proposals and I hope he fails in achieving those proposals, is the DCCC going to launch a petition against me?

So, let me get this straight. As far as liberals are concerned it is OK to say " I hope we lose in Iraq", but it is not OK to say ' I hope Obama's economic plan fails"? Typical liberal BS. If your crazy agenda fits into the liberal agenda, it is OK. But if you say something anti-liberal, it is out of line.

How many Dems were OPENLY hoping that Bush's appoach in Iraq failed? They even said success in Iraq ould hurt democrats future success. But that is OK? Hypocrites!!!!!

What Limbaugh really means when he says he wants Obama to fail and all his crap about big government and people keeping their noses out of the "private sector" is that he doesn't want anybody "nosin'" around or trying to control his abuse of and probable illegal providers/means of obtaining "prescription" drugs. He is such a slob! in more ways than one – a hypocrit!!! disgusting piece of dung!!! Traitor, propagandist (if not a word, now it is), terrorist himself. He sounds like an alli of Osama. Hmmmmm. He probably doesn't think Guantanamo should be closed so lets just send him there.

Rush Limbaugh's remark was uncalled for.
He is the type of man who would love to see some young individual fail, for somthing they are trying to do for the betterment of this world.

Individuals like him, should keep their comments to themselves.
He is surely a poor looser. Look at him. He need some kind of a love in his heart. He seems to even hate himself.

He, and many like him, are re cause why the Great U.S.A. is falling, because of their hate towards other individuals.

Rush Limbaugh, go get a life man

I'd like to sign this petition. Limbaugh has chosen the far right of the displaced GOP and can't even relatewith his party. Who needs more negativity at a time like this? It is time for Rush Limbaugh to retire.
