Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

Rush has be hate mongering since his first days on the air. The sorry fact is he still has an audience that believes in him. God help us all if his remaining audience does not wake up and turn him off after his latest attack on America.

I think that you are just a racist redneck hiding behind your microphone and you think that gives you the right to say what ever but you need to just get over it and get with the times you have an african american president and by saying you hope he fails your hoping that you yourself fail

Its called freedom of the press. I love how the left cries at the very first negative thing that is said about President Obama. President Bush endured WAY harsher criticism. GMAB!

Limbaugh is a fool, but he is entitled to air his opinions. The petition is a waste of time. All it does is serve to further embolden Limbaugh.

Freedom of speech....Dems don't forget that. How many Dems wanted President Bush to succeed? None of them did...that is why they opposed his every move. This is hogwash on the dems part.

Where do I sign! That fat scumbag would loose so much weight if he spent half his energy on the right diet and exercise rather than hoping America fails, what a waste of air.

    Regarding: Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

Our country seems to be in a feeding frenzy and witch hunt this past year or so and it is getting scary. What is next, a holocost or genocide? Please people, stop the trying to restrict others from freedom of speech. Our country is a wonderful country right now. Keep it that way.

Rush has become pathetic. To wish failure on the American government, and thus the American people and American way of life shows how desperate he has become to attract followers and stuff his pockets with personal gain. Why not wish success on anyone who tries to improve our situation in the world and save the harsh rhetoric for Al Queda, for the (his) drug dealers or for the people who are blatantly trying to disrupt the positive influences on the world. Get Rush off the air.

I really don't have a problem with Limbaugh's comments. I hoped every day that Bush's policies would fail. I admit given GW's lack of brains that was pretty much a slam dunk. Rush can say anything he wants and it wont change anything. We've got a real leader now.

Who cares what Rush Limbaugh says he is not a member of the congress last time I checked. This is just the Dems distracting the American people away from the real issues. I hope the Republicans bust this stimulus package as it will only create a “false perception” that the economy is doing well and growing. This may help Obama in 2012 but will not help the country long term.

This is a free country and Rush has the right to say what he wants too. I think all of you waco democrats did the same to Sara Palin. Get over it, you may have won the battle, but you didn't win the war.

Rush is an expert at projecting all of the negatives of his conservative movement onto the "Liiiberalsss", such as how angry, bitter, intolerant, they are. Throw in godless and wacko and division soup is served.. The most unfortunate aspect of Rush's opinion\comedy show is that so many swallow his hypocracy filled framework that they lose sight of the people behind the buzz words. It is difficult to take Rush in any dose larger than a few minutes before pity sets in.

Did anyone listen to the interview? He said that he hopes that some of the policies fail. I am an independant and will support and respect whoever our pres is. Honestly I don't think either of the 2 were the right choices. But I am sick of the Obama is GOD theory. You can't say what is on your mind or your anti american. I was watching Larry King the other night with Barbara S on. She was slamming Rush calling him anti american, and not patriotic, however a few moments later they showed a pict of Bush and staff moving out and she makes the comment that she is glad she never has to see those "clowns" again. How is that american? Is that patriotic? How can she say that and then slam Rush for speaking his mind? Socialistic has never worked and I am afraid that "some" of the policies are leading us that way. Just bread for the head...

As Rush Limbaugh sits in his zillion dollar home and hopes that the American people economically suffer to futher his politcal and promotion agenda, is a shame. Dittoheads take note, you are the ones who will also suffer if Rush's wish comes true and "Obama Fails".

I believe Pres.Obama suggested that GOP congressional leaders should stop listening to Limbaugh! "WARN" them I don't think so, after all this is America... there is freedom of speech.

Most Americans don't agree with anything Limbaugh has to say and know that he is just a waste of airspace! Those who do agree with his hateful and divisive remarks are caught up in the “blind being lead by the blind” syndrome.

Keep up the good work Pres. Obama, seeds of conflict from hater’s like Limbaugh will not prevail, in fact they will become your foot stool!

Rush is a drug addict. The reason people take drugs is to distort reality. No wonder the words that come out of his mouth are often irrational and unreasonable. Rush is also bitter. Bitterness poisens perception...Rush is one mucked up individual with access to the airways...

Thisarticle does not show all of the context, Rush said he wanted Obamas economic policies to fail, in regard to government intervention in private industry
