Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

I can't stand Rush, but his statement was not a general one. It was obviously directed to economic policy. The necessary yet regrettable government intervention into financial markets is bitter medicine for most Republicans, and Rush in particular can't stomach the taste.

Senate Republicans are crying and Rush Limbaugh is feeding our nation with their tears. I could not find a word low enough to describe Rush Limbaugh.Where were the Republicans for eight years? Now they want to help the American people. And I hate when these people in office say"The American people want".Well the American people have spoken !
Does the Republican Party need hearing Aids? The Press should lay heavy on Rush for it is the Press who is afraid of him ,NOT the president who is decent and a true Black American and this is what makes Rush burn. GET HIM OFF THE NETWORKS !

First of all, the unbiased CNN is only showing a small portion of the actual quote...go figure! He went on to say that he doesn't want Obama to succeed at taking over our banking system and other socialistic approaches that the leader of our DEMOCRACY has said he wants to accomplish. Rush said he wants those POLICIES to fail. It is funny how when you dont show the entire quote, you are able to mislead the American people. Secondly, didn't the democrats in Congress attempt to say through legislation that the war our president led us into was a failure? They said that his policies were the reason for the failure. So, Democrats can question Bush's policies but no one can question Obama's? Come on! I agree with Bush! I want Obama's socialistic agendas to fail! Not the president, but his agendas that take us away from what this country was founded on....democracy!

Unfortunately, in a country founded on free speech, you have to expect that people of such low caliber as Limbaugh will abuse that freedom. The best way to get rid of him is to ignore him, as I do.

Once again the over inflated gas bag gets what he wants; more attention and fuel for him and his ditto heads to salivate over. The more attention you pay to him, the more attention he gets; stop playing into his hands, and let him slide into irrelevance.

I hope the Democratic Party and the major news media won't keep on giving this idiot (Rush Limbaugh) any more platforms for him to continue with his insane outrage against the well being of this great nation.

The news media should spend more time critiquing the Obama policies and applauding where it needs to instead of giving precious time to such idiots like Rush.

    God bless America !!!

Rush Limbaugh's ranting is akin to treason, he should have been banned from the air a long time ago. I'm in Canada but, whenever we, unfortunately, see his fat ugly face, we shut off the TV. In a new America there's no use for a dinossaur egotistic maniac like Limbaugh! A new dawn has broken for America and the world. Thank's to the American people who elected President Barack Obama.
    God bless America.

Congratulations, DCCC. You have just made Rush Limbaugh the happiest person in the world. I'm a dem, but I'm going to ignore this foolish campaign. Long live freedom of speech! This freedom is only tried and proven when someone you don't want to hear is blowing in your ear...remember?

And as free Americans, we have the right TO IGNORE HIM!

The petty politics from both sides of the aisle is too much.

Limbaugh is an absolute idiot! I consider his comments to be anti-American and with that said, he should be treated as such. I hope he fails – or is that falls, six feet under!

So what the Rush man wants if I understand him is for America to fail. If all the programs fail then America fails and to hear this from a self proclaimed PATROIT is really amazing. Also it wasn't Obama that bailed the banks out it was his buddy Dubya and friends. Is he still on the pain killers?

Where do I sign? When the Republicans had the majority, Rush was in the thick of it. Now that they are not, Rush feels the need to throw rocks at them as well. Just what this country needs is another person who has plenty of criticism for everyone, but does nothing to better the situation themselves. He wishes for the President of the United States of America to fail. Well, my sincere wish is for him to shut up. He is a tired, old, drug addicted blowhard whose time has past. We aren't buying what he sells anymore. He needs to get a real job.

The Democrats' obsession with Limbaugh is much more frightening than anything Limbaugh says. From day 1 in this country, free speech has been about *unpopular* speech.

Limbaugh is an idiot. But Democrats are even dumber if they put this kind of focus on him. It's this petition today, and some horrible censorship law called the "fairness doctrine" next.

Jefferson will roll over in his grave at the party that claims his mantle.

Move on, Dems. Get your shorts out of a bunch and lead as elected.
