Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

Nothing new here from Rush. He is scrambling to keep an audience because basically everything he says has been proven to be a joke. Only the die hard right to lifers and those of lower brain power are left. He has never cared about people or anything but his own pocketbook. He does not care who or what gets hurt in the aftermath of what he preaches as gospel. All he cares about is that he continues to get a big fat paycheck.

Rush doesn't know what he is saying anymore, he's a junkie and he is just rambling on, hoping to stay relevant.

Rush makes me nauseated. He should be banned from public radio. Comments like "I wish he'd fail" ,refering to President Obama, sound like a kindergartener pouting. I'm sure that Obama is not at all "afraid "of him.
If I recall he was also against drugs and the hippocrit is an oxycontin addict.

It's amazing that this gut even has an audience anymore. This is calculated nonsense designed to keep him in the public eye just a little longer before his 15 minutes is up. Ignore him, maybe he'll go away.

In rereading the transcript of Limbaugh's comments, I do not get the impression that he wishes Obama to fail overall as a president. I do get the impression that he hope Obama will fail at introducing a socialist agenda.

I would be wise for any reader to read the original transcript in full rather than understand the interpertation as Mooney states above.

I don't listen to Limbaugh, just want to clarify for any that may despise the man.

Rush is a pathetic old windbag. I seriously doubt anyone is afraid of him, and I doubt even more if anyone takes him seriously anymore.

Limabugh is nothing more than a bad entertainer that wants publicity at ANY cost. He makes Britany and her theatrics look tame.
This guy needs to be IGNORED. By giving him more publicity, he is getting what he wants - the fuel to keep fanning the flames.
I think the politicians NEED to get to work fixing this economy - and stop with the cheap tactics and worrying about Limbaugh. Just laugh in his face, and then turn around and ignore his comebacks. If he doesn't get any response, he won't have anything to say on his radio show. That will hurt him even worse than any petition.

No matter if you agree with him or not, you must agree that this guy uses people to divide the country, create chaos and make a buck for himself.

Like a petition is gonna change that guy's mind. He doesn't care, never has, never will.

Best thing to do is ignore him all together. A petition like this only calls more attention to him.

As usual, Democrats and Liberals are taking him out of context. He wants socialist policies to fail.

If Obama was pushing forth conservative policies, Rush would be behind him 100 per cent, but Obama is not pushing forth tried and true methods. He is pushing forth agendas that have never worked in the history of society.

And our country hangs on the precipice because of that.

Maybe the Democrats would be better served by cutting out the pork (but, really, what in it is not pork?) in the 825 billion dollar "stimulus" package.

Partisan politics at it's finest. I'll bet he hopes their is a terrorist attack on our soil that kills a lot of americans again too. He is an idiot and the media would be smart to stop wasting any print or air time on him.

Rush is just another Republican gasbag who doesn't know when to shut up. He served his purpose during the first Gulf War (George Bush I), and hasn't stopped talking since. Limbaugh is so full of himself that he doesn't know how dead he and his party are. Rush- Get a clue–you have no life. Where's that petition?

Limbaugh said he hopes that Obama's "socialist programs and agenda" fail. However, the liberal media is twisting his words in an all out attack against him, conservatives and anyone who has the "audacity" to speak out against Obama. This is exactly what the Bolsheviks/Communists did when they came to power in Russia in 1918, what Castro did in Cuba, what Chavez is trying to do in Venezuela, what China has been doing and on and on. The so called "Fairness Doctrine" is nothing more than an attempt to squelch any opposition to Obama and his policies; however, the overwhelming majority of Americans will not allow this to happen and there would be a huge backlash against the leftist leaning media and Obama.

Nobody is "afraid of" Rush. This whole business just exposes Rush for what he is, an overweight, mean spirited, drug dependent small man who makes his money capitalizing on the fears of others.

It's high time people spoke up, rejecting out-of-hand his false and self-serving claim to be only an "entertainer."

America, we are simply better than that.
