Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

The writer (Mooney) left off the most important part of Limbaugh's comment. Limbaugh said Obama's presidency is leading this country to socialism and, if Obama continues that, Limbaugh hopes Obama fails.

Its people like Limbaugh that need to start thinking of the country they live in and what they can do to help his fellow man instead of thinking of how he can get more people to pay attention to him and his stupidity thinking. Sometimes the freedom of speech hurts more than it helps. I for one would like to see him shut up.

Limbaugh would be the first to jump on any "liberal" media pundit as anti-American if the shoe was on the other foot. His comment is comically idiotic and epitomizes the expression "cutting off your nose to spite your face." I hope his listeners realize how small minded he must be to say such a ridiculous thing.

Why incourage him? Forget a petition. Ignore him! This just gives more air time to poorly thought out ideas. If Obama fails, the nation fails. Spent time and efforts trying to move in a positive direction. We should all want the best for America, no matter who is at the helm.

Rush Limbaugh is exactly what we need at this difficult time in our history. He is mean, ignorant and the epitome of negativity. President Obama campaigned on a platform of change to get away from the vile trash that Limbaugh and he friends espouse.

We should not elevate his status by signing a petition – the best way to treat him is with indifference – treating any other way only elevates his position and ego – neither of which deserve any credit.....

The DCCC should ignore Rush for the same reason that sports broadcasts don't show idiot fans from streaking onto the field. This petition and the press around it, gives Rush the opinion that he's still relevant. Ignoring his comments would be the best thing that educated individuals could do –

Go Rush! Tell it like it is. Everyone is caught up in Obama mania and not looking at reality. Freedom of speech guaranteed by the constitution for everyone not just the liberal left!!

Rush Limbaugh is a very sad, negative & miserable person. If PRESIDENT OBAMA fails, our country fails which means the AMERICAN people fail. We have been failures for the past 8 years. It is time we get up and take pride in our country again!! Let the weights of the past eight years be lifted from US all.

Rush is full of wind s@#t and hot air. No one is frightened by him other than the girls in the Dominican Republic he likes to visit with his Viagra.

He has no credibility. If he had some pull with the people HRC would have been the Democratic Nominee and JSM would have been President.

Why even give this twit that much recognition. It is scary that people like him, Mike Huckabee, and Sarah Palin actually have a constituency, and a simpleton like George W can be elected not once but twice.

This makes all the sense in the world...that someone in the opposing political party would wish well for the person while hoping their policies are an utter failure.

We've heard the constant drumbeat of "love the soldiers, hate the war" for the last 5 years.

    Why is this any different?

Many people disagreed with former President Bush, how many politicians tried to silence those voices?

I am an independant. As far as I know Mr. Limbaugh is a radio talk show host, a commentator. Last I have heard, we are still the United States of America with Bill of Rights.

You may not agree with Mr. Limbaugh, do not listen to him, but do not use legislation to silence him. This is a very dangerous path the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is taking are nation. If this takes hold what says this committee or any other committee from silencing other voices that do not agree with their views.

Please show this comment CNN, thank you.

Considering that the majority of vomit spewing from the gasbag Limbaughs mouth is lies and falsehoods, the very fact that there has to be a petition is demonstrative of the stupidity of the people that believe him!

This is absurd. Starting a petition to boycott his words is only bringing more attention to him. A silent ignorance would be best. When the economy turns around due to the bi-partisan actions of congress and the white house, I'm sure he'll give all the blame to the GOP. This isn't a time to hope for failure. This isn't a time to make the country worse with your anti-liberal bigotry.

We need checks and balances. We can't have all liberals, all conservatives...but the point of checks and balances is to make sure that things grow in an equal fashion – not divide the country because some yahoo has a microphone for all to hear.

Maybe we just need a crazy liberal talk show host who can steal some of his sunshine?

    I nominate myself.

Limbaugh has an oversized ego to match his oversized mouth with unfortunately an undersized brain. The only people who pay attention to him are the same ones who thought Sara Palin was qualified to be VP!
