Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

Rush must be on the drugs again. Doesn't he realize people are getting sick of this kind of negative crap that spews from his mouth. This is why the republicans can't win an election for dog catcher. They have forgotten how to lead with ideas and encouragement. They only know how to tear down.

Rush Limbaugh (I prefer to call him Rush Windbag) is obviously in love with the sound of his own voice and uses that voice to incite hatred of anything that doesn't serve his purposes. He'd be pathetic if it weren' t for the fact that so many people seem to enjoy that kind of thinking. It reminds me of those who liked watching people whack each other with chairs on Jerry Springer's show. However, our country is suffering – and part of that suffering has been caused by people like Limbaugh and Limbaugh himself who have preached divisiveness. It's time that Americans became red, white, and blue again instead of red or blue. If we don't pull together, we will pull apart. Limbaugh is preaching a doctrine of failure for our country, not just for our new president. If he isn't wise enough to know that, the people who listen to him should be- and should tune him out.

The Democrats are acting like a 16 year old that just entered his first chatroom. They need to familiarize themselves with the phrase "Don't feed the trolls." Limbaugh was becoming increasingly irrelevant, but thanks to these idiotic Democrats, he's back in the news and his ratings will improve. Ridiculous.

GO RUSH!!! We're behind you 100%!! The Dems are ruining our country. The $1B+ stimulus (right?) package is full of the Dems' wish list. They don't care about our country.

You know what? Just ignore the gas bag. When you pay attention to him it only encourages him to think he matters.

I think there are quite a few people who agree with Limbaugh; they are more interested in proving that big government can't do anything positive than improving the country. We've just suffered through another eight year period of trickle-down economics, but evidently there are those who can't admit that it doesn't work and we need to keep trying till it does.

I don't like Rush, but this seems pretty hypocritical. Dimwit Reid said that the war in Iraq was lost while battles still raged – and he is an elected official! Where was the outrage then?

Rush is speaking for most of the professional Republicans in this country. The last thing they want is for a Democratic President to succeed. The are a pathetic bunch.

    This is not news.

I have always thought Mr. Limbaugh was a nut and now I have no doubt of my past opinion. He just needs to sit down and shut up. He is anti-American, and has nothing to contribute to the good of our nation unless he can transform from the idiot he is presenting himself to be to someone willing to judge less and aid more to help our nation to get out of the mess we are in now from 8 years of the GOP influence. I never watch his program and don't intend to start to do so, just because I cannot believe anything he says. I prefer to watch any host on tv who actually is willing to listen to another persons ideas and consider them for what they are worth in the light of the good for all Americans.

They are wasting my money by spending it on pet projects. They are wasting my money by attacking an entertainer; they do work for us you know. Perhaps they should do what they were hired to do and mind the country. But I guess that would be to much to ask.

Leave the idiot alone! You are only adding to his malignant power. These folks love nothing more than a battle; that is what fuels them. Walk away and he has no one to fight with.

Rush Limbaugh is just shooting his mouth off and getting paid to do it. You feed his fire and he gets better ratings. He supported Palin saying " We've got the babe" how much more proof do you need to tell you he is a MORON ???

It's truly sad when "educated" people don't exercise any control over their loose lips. There was a time when me and some of my friends though Rush Limbaugh was cool. It seems like the older he gets, the more senile and destitute in thinking he becomes. Truly, truly sad!

right to his opinion, and I have a right to mine! Supposedly he is

How unpatriotic can a person be? To hope that our President fails? If he fails, our country fails. If that is what Rush wants then he is the most un-American man I know. Shame on Rush, and shame on those that agree with him!

Yes, he has the first amendment right, however just like Sean Hannity he is committing professional suicide. It makes no sense to stand behind the American Constitution and bash the American President.

Mr. Limbaugh has the right to say whatever he wants. I spoke up over and over in reference to Bush. The First Amendment is not negotiable.

But, Rush remains an idiot, and his followers remain idiots also.

For President Obama to even acknowledge his existence was a mistake, though. He will learn from that.

For the Democrats to initiate a petition only feeds in to his over sized ego. He should be ignored.

Rush's biggest fear is irrelevance. Not acknowledging his existence and letting him fade in to obscurity while he continues to spout divisive and hateful comments is the best thing for us all.

I urge everyone who takes issue with Mr. Limbaugh and his positions to simply ignore him. It's what HE fears the most.

And he could use some fear. We suffered 8 years of it.

Simple enough, he is on the margins, he has not or does not count, he is an entertainer who should stay off the drugs and on the treadmill.

Our congress needs to stop picking on talk radio hosts, and attacking their freedom speech, and start dealing with REAL issues effecting americans (terrorism, economy, crime). While I don't agree with all Rush says, he has every right to say it, and I get where he is coming from, if you're a true conservative, then you shouldn't want Obama to be successful with his liberal/socialistic policies.

Limbaugh is merely an entertainer who's ego is so inflated he would like to see America fail so that he can say I told you so. For all his fans who prefer to have someone else do their thinking for them, at least pick a patriot.
