Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

There is nothing wrong with freely expressing an opinion about an elected official. God knows, conservatives heard these rants – and worse – for the past 8 years. Fact is, Obammie could not survive the thrashing Bush took from every angle for 8 years. Now we'll see just how tough "Mr slick tongue – No Substance" can be. By the way, I hope President Obama FAILS. No kidding. I deeply disagree with everything he stands for including letting babies born alive from failed abortions die alone in a closet – out of view – while this society looks the other way. Fail – Obammie – fail. Go RUSH

Everything RUSH is complaining about except health care is exactly what the BUSH administration delivered to this country. BUSH socalized the Mortgage, Banking and Auto industries, not Obama.
Eight years of rule by an administration RUSH supported every step of the way. RUSH is a joke just like BUSH was a joke. Only difference is RUSH is a comedian and BUSH was the President of the United States. So what RUSH does doesn't matter and what BUSH did was a disaster for the USA as well as the rest of the planet.
Let's hope Obama is as smart and honorable as he appears to be. God knows's we need something special after 8 years of an idiot at the helm.

Rush Limbaugh is a hater, but that vicodin addicted recovering addict has a right to free speech. Someone needs to tell him to go and ask his maid to pick him up a prescription...

What's wrong CNN? Is this post too hot for you:
Buying things I can't afford will ruin my life. Why, then, would I want my country to do the same?
I believe it to be a universal economic truth.

I dislike Limbaugh for his inability to realize that most Americans share the same goals, Democrats and Republicans alike. Similarly to how many of my Republican friends view Michael Moore, such commentators have only served to divide our country, a rift which we must mend in order to regain prosperity.

Rush is not the first to make negative comments about this country and presidents. Freedom of speech is still here. Why not go after Howard Stern who is so vulgar and vile, saying anything he wants. No one is going after him.Are we saying smut is OK? We could go on and on about who said this or that. Don't you protesters have anything to do besides gripe. Get a JOB , or are you waiting for the "spread the wealth" Obama plan. By the way. Didn't Obama plan to have jobs for all?

Rush Limbaugh is a Nazi, full of hatred plain and simple. If you listen to him talk a little bit come out every now and then. But he's also a coward because he won't come out and just say what he is so he doesn't even deserve respect.

Why is it that this kind of free speech was considered "Anti-American" only a month ago by the Republicans?

No one is supressing Rush's speech. Leave it to thin-skinned angry, white right-wingers to claim oppression, which they wouldn't really know it if it came along and bit their collective pampered backsides. The petition is a statement of disagreement, not to get that pill-popping hatemonger off the air.

Does anyone remember how often Rush, Hannity, Savage, Bill-O and the rest tarred anyone and everyone with the label of "traitor" if they didn't agree with GWB? Remember how we were all told that Democrats are just domestic terrorists? Remember how we were all told that "you're either with us or with the terrorists?"

I guess that amongst the many deficiencies of the new Right, a total memory lapse is first and foremost amongst them. And to the person who claimed that Limbaugh speaks for "true patriots," well, you need no further evidence than that that anyone who disagrees with the flock-like party line is not only not American, but genuinely different and evil. Mary, you and your attitudes are precisely what has ruined America for the last decade. This is a land for everyone, not just white Christians who conform to one set of beliefs that are neither Christian nor patriotic.

My question is, How is it possible that a person of Rush's ilk gets to impose his blatantly one sided and narrow minded neocon views on the general public daily? Who makes it possible? Who approves these things? Does he have more Freedom of Speech rights than the rest of us? Is his opinion the only relevant one? I have opinions too! WHERES MY PODIUM? WHERES MY MICROPHONE? Cmon CNN this "you're post is awaiting moderation" crap EVERY POST is getting old! Stop violating my rights!!!!!!

I agree that free speech is every man's right however to wish the failure of the USA economy and the current President, which was elected by the American people, is a disgrace to all citizens of the USA!

This nation is based on diversity. If Rush Limbaugh has dreams that the USA should fail, simply because he doesn't like the current President, then he should consider leaving this great nation and find a place that holds the dictator type viewpoints that he apparently embraces.

Let President Barack Obama have a chance to correct the terrible state that we are in at the moment.

I for one hope that he succeeds with his efforts because his success means every citizen in the USA's success!

The people who support this anti-Limbaugh approach are idiots. If they had half a brain, they would realize he is correct. You can't argue facts. But that's just it...Liberals either don't know the facts or don't understand the facts.

How many people really care about someone who is as fat as a wart hog and has a $1,000.00 a day habit. Turned over on his housekeeper to stay out of jail. He'll be in jail as soon as Florida get a democratic governor.

After this election, he and is neocon followers
have become irrelevant. this only gives them a platform
to air their irrelevant dribble. leave the old white men alone
and let them drift to where they belong.. to a meaningless existence.
