Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

It is about time "WE THE PEOPLE" take some action against such "AN AMERICAN COMMENTS". To say/ to wish/ to dream President Obama to fail is to say/to wish/ to dream that America to fail. Nothing more! Nothing less.

If Limbaugh wants Obama to fail then he also wants the USA to fail and fall into a deep depression. This man is not a patriot, I dare say he isn't an American either. What he is, is a disgrace.
Then I am sure you wanted Bush to fail I guess you are not an American and you are a disgrace.

While I have no problem with his right to speak his mind, the problem is, until now, no one seems to want to take him to task. This petition, if you Rush-mates would deign to read it, does not seek to silence him but rather debate him using the same media he exploits.

I guess the comments just go to show that every freak has his fans...Rush is a FREAK. Hey I wonder if the Rushfans would have liked Jim Jones...he had fans that were like rabid dogs in their defense of him too..maybe he will ask all his followers to drink the kool-aid...oh wait they already have.

Becky, you say "who's next"? Well I'd be interested to hear your answer. Who do you think you are going to "Take out" next? If you think it's Rush, good luck with that.

Oh Rush. I hope Rush keeps up his isolation tactics so people keep seeing how the evangelical right is off their rocker. Obama won because people are sick of Neo Cons rhetoric. So I hope he keeps up his jabbering so that we can re-institute some sanity into government. Lets do whats right for America and not what ideology tells you to do!

Freedom of speech my a..... Repubs are hypocrites. Just let a Dem make a comment that they don't agree with. Oh Lord. Those who believe Rush Limbaugh is entertainment or a comedian need to take a long look at themselves. The man is a sore on the rear of our country. His mentality fits in with Ben Ladin and the moron in Iran. Extremist and very scary. He needs to go back to his drugs and shut the heck up.

Why are only the Dems out to get Rush? Almost sounds like the$825
Billion Lottery? Everyone is scared to say no to this excessive HEAT
"Help Evaluate The TARP". The House will not eliminate the excess,
even after President reached out to the Reps in new fashion, most of
the Stimulus is needed, but right now only for taxpayers, with thestroke
of a pen you could see an increase in take home pay. President Obama is looking for anything that will work right now, so let's do this thing in stages and prioritize government spending, and not 152 items
all at once, that really no one, even the economists, know if it will work.
