Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

Can't believe myself this is happening in America. After what he said, some ignorants still call him a patriot?

Will the democrats now change the Constitution so that they can persecute anyone who they don't agree with?

I don't like Limbaugh, but people are taking what he said WAY out of context. He simply disagrees with the policy that Obama is trying to implement...so therefore wants Obama to fail at implementing those policies. He's not saying he wants the U.S. to fail. Wake up people!

Freedom of Speech and I love how liberals wanted bush to fail, bush is this and that and yet when someone makes a comment against Obama it is wrong. Grow up – if we do not challenge people things will not get fixed

In regards to this , when media puts comments out like this, its the entire world who sees these articles, which plays into his agenda. What the world has already seen is the power of this administration – reaching out across america and the world.

He is obviusly lacking american pride, respect – a better America.

we shouldn't give him the opertunity. The media shouldn't give him the "press". He is noithing but a bad name here in the US. Maybe we should have the media put out something negative about him, sore looser across the world – internet/web.

no where is the petition ?

could you imagine rush's response if say, john stuart said this when dubya was elected? oh my.. but it's obvious rush is doing this for ratings. you could see the look on his fat face that he knew what he was saying wasn't right. he's pulling an anne coulter and just spouting obsurdity to gain attention. he wants to return his status to that of the mid nineties. when he was THE voice of america's village idiots.

He followed Bush all the way to Hell and back so why would anyone even consider him a serious news person, hate is what he lives on so why even give him the stage. We need to work together to heal America not tear it down more.

So its perfectly ok for the Americans to hope and pray and call Bush a failure for 8 years but once Rush says he hopes Obama fails its un-American and un-Patriotic. People really do worship the ground this man walks on and its sickening and not to mention they didnt play or mention the whole context of why Rush said what he said. Its just another way to show that the Liberal media wants conservatives out of the way. How is this not un-American and un-Patriotic. Bi-Partisan politics will never be accomplished with the facade everyone puts on things

When America elected Obama, I believe it was a strong statement against the type of hyperpartisanship Mr. Limbaugh represents.

Moreover, in his statement, by hoping Obama fails, Mr. Limbaugh places politics over country.

This nation cannot afford to have Obama's economic plans fail – if his policy does fail, it will be a disaster for our country.

Mr. Limbaugh would rather have Republicans in power and America in economic shambles, apparently, rather than an economic recovery.

I think oozing pustule describes him quite nicely. He's irrelevant. That's why he says outrageous things. Just like his irrelevant buddy Ann Coulter.

Rush needs to be ignored. He is using this opportunity to bring in new listeners and increase his ratings from those who aren't happy with democrats being in control. He will continue to do these tactics as long as he receives this type of attention. There's nothing wrong when we listen to his show to see what others are saying but it becomes a problem we start believing in the hate that comes from his show without doing our own research. It's not productive for the country. He is merely using the ignorant and small minded to spread his agenda of hate. Those of us who has common sense can determine what's good for the country and it's certainly not him. Do your own research and stop believing everything everyone is telling you!!!

Oh yes, yes, yes! Let's get moving on the Ban-Limbaugh express! That will pave the way to censoring other private citizens! Then we can all turn our civil responsibilities and privileges over to the US government and dance in the spotlight that is Marxism!

You HAVE to be kidding me. Nevermind that the whole bailout is a violation of 9th and 10th amendment rights. Nevermind that Blagovitch didn't get due process. Nevermind that the second amendment has been continually trampled since 1934. Nevermind that the senate TRIED something to this effect last year and it FAILED MISERABLY. Whether or not you agree with Rush Limbaugh, open your eyes (even if you have a narrow view) and realize it's about censoring a private citizen and violating his first amendment rights.

Limbaugh is no more than an opportunistic liar who enriches himself at the expense of the poor and least educated. He's so narrowminded, he can look through a keyhole with both eyes! The man is lower than a centipede's heel. If Bruce Lee had kicked Rush in the heart, he'd have broken his toe.
