Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

Typical of the Dems and the new presidency to want to "control" free speech. Rush is hurting no one. People can turn their radio off if they don't agree. I think he is right and and the more people like Hannity, O'reailly and Limbaugh we have...the better off we will be.

Rush is a joke, I used to listen to him alot then his view became more of attack on Dem, no matter what. Multiple party is good for democratic process that it gets view from both side and keep in check and balances. but Rush, he doesn't want compromise he wants Dems heads. In a way like those hardline Arabs (Hezbolla?) I think overall all that drugs made him to aggresive and clouded his mind.

Why were citizens who voiced opinions against Bush called unpatriotic, and Limbaugh, the gasbag, and his followers, can call it free speech. Wouldn't it be free speech when talking against Bush? I guess the republicans feel they are the only ones entitled to this right.

Do Dems have nothing more important to do? This is so childish.
Of course Rush wants misguided policies to fail. Just like libs want
conservative ideas to fail. Conservatives have opinions too or is "free thinking" just for libs. Seems to be. Another double standard. The only thing this will accomplish is Rush having more material.
Conservatives are not followers; we like to think and one doesn't have to think too hard on this one.
PS I don't even listen to Rush.

Sending a signed petition to Rush Limbaugh is not going to change his position. As a matter of fact, Rush will never change. He is extremely wealthy and arrogant with a large fan base. As long as he has a large fan base and advertising sponsors, he will continue with his hateful rants. I believe the hate mongers like Rush should not receive media attention. This type of action will only feed the ego and hate mongering rants of Rush.

"The same twenty some odd percentage that thought Bush was doing a good job"

You people really don't understand conservative beliefs, nor do you even know what they are. Many of us who listen to Rush absolutely despise what Bush did from a Government spending perspective. Many of us who listen to Rush don't agree whole-heartedly with 100 percent of what he says either.

We just have a fundamental difference in our beliefs about the role of Government. Most liberals believe that the Government needs to play a large role in the lives of it's citizens. Most conservatives don't believe this. We believe government is supposed to have a role, but not such a large one.

We strongly believe that, when a peson's life gets turned upside-down from personal or financial tragedy, a person is their own best hope to fix the problems. We think Government should help, but a person should look to themself first.

Is that such a bad thing? I admit that Rush's words are brash. He is in show business after all.

Rush Limbaugh is a fool, but he has every right to speak his mind. That's the beauty of the First Amendment.

DNC, use your energy to worry about something else - like maybe our failing economy.

By continuously talking about Rush Limbaugh all that we do is make this irrelevant trash-talker and his ditto heads relevant. Hey Rush - just say good bye and exit (stage left?).
