Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

I understand the comment. He is not hoping Obama fails as a President, he hopes his policies fail. I get that, however, if it fails, we ALL lose. When something you are doing is not giving you the results you want/need then you need to look at your system. Bush's 8 years have gotten us here, Rush. We can only go up from here. Get on board as an American (regardless of race, creed, color or political preference) and be proactive to help put the best country in the world back on track.
I don't listen to Rush for all the reasons already stated by others. I do hate it when the media gives him press. Why not instead focus on the positives, we are hearing enough negatives as it is. (job loss, eviction, murder/suicide of families). Good grief.

Rush Limp-baugh is an admitted drug addict with deep pyschological and sexual issues, so it's hard for me (or anyone with normal intelligence) to take anything he says about anything with any seriousness. Perhaps there is a dark cave, or very deep hole, where Rush, Sarah, Dubyah, and the rest of that gang of morons can reside so the rest of us can get on with our lives.
I would also gladly sign a petition to launch Rush into orbit, drop him in a volcano, or have him converted into a human pinata.

Thankfully democratics are speaking out against hatred and bigotry. Unfortunately MARY, many of you "forgotten patriots" are going to have to adjust your perception of the world now that things aren't quite so white washed. I hope Rush Limbaugh sees just how detrimental hateful rhetoric is. But then again, why would he, he was a John McCain supporter just like you.

This is a bad idea. The more people respond to what Rush says the more he eats it up. To him, any notoriety fills him with feelings of power and influence. Just ignore him forever and he will fall flat on his own. Rush is irrelevant and should be treated as such. I think that President Obama learned a hard lesson in that, to Rush, any publicity is good publicity. Rush's greatest fear is indifference.

President Obama's success will be Limbaugh's demise. Besides, there are only a finite amount of people who are going to spend forever being proudly known as a "Dittohead"; which, in and of itself, greatly reduces the credibility of his fans.

    Just ignore him........

Rush Limbaugh needs prayer. Believe it or not "money" is his motivator. He spews this hatred to keep ratings up from his bigot listeners so he can keep his pockets lined. He is a pathethic, greedy, loser. Pray for him.

I can't believe anybody actually takes maroons like Rush seriously. Doesn't anybody get that he's just a political version of Andy Kaufman who's laughing all the way to the bank that enough of the the public is actually naive enough to believe he's actually serious.

It's all stagecraft, people. Wake up, smell the coffee and understand that he shouldn't be taken any more seriously than Kaufman's "wresteling career."

Put him in the actual political ring – i.e. give him an actual position of political responsibility and hed be peeing his pants and frozen like a deer in the headlights.

Pres, obama is pushng us to a socialist nation, and is attempting to take away our second amendment freedoms. The Rep. don't want him to fail on the economy, etc. but he is giving away our Freedoms that keep us safe. Rush has a right to his oppinion,All of the stars did it again'st Pres. Bush.
If Obama cain't take the heat, he needs to wake up his Dem. congress and House. They are the same flunkies who got us in this mess.
    Thankyou very much

He's not a bag of wind, nor outdated, nor irrelevant.

He's an opinionist (like opinion columnists at The New York Times or The National Review or Keith Olberman or Chris Matthews), and whether you agree with him is moot. He's got 20 million daily listeners and he's got the ear of all conservatives and libertarians (about 47% of the country when we went to the polls in early November), a claim no one on the left can make.

Polemics have started masking themselves as news, which is a mighty bother. But neither Rush, nor liberal counterparts Maureen Dowd and Frank Rich are reporters, just opinionists, just polemicists.

Polemics of course argues for come degree of skill. Maureen Dowd hasn't got Frank Rich's skill and neither of these has the sort of impact that Rush has among conservatives.

So now anyone who expresses the right to Freedom of Speech by being honest in their opinion of the President can expect a petition from the DNC?

Wow. One week in and the first Amendment is done for...should be a good year!

They type of "Hate" that Rush L delivers is what Obama message will slowly eradicate.

There will be a day, hopefully in my lifetime, that the ignorance of "Hate" Radio hosts such as Rush L and Joe Pagliarulo will no longer exist because there will only be a handful of idiots left to listen to their programs.

So how does Rush measure up against Don Imus?

Imus got fired for offending women, people of African heritage, and basketball players. Who has Rush offended?

I don't think getting fired would hurt Rush much. He has money he'll never be able to spend. It might make me feel better, though.
