Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

We need to just ignore this guy. He is making himself irrelevant. He and Hannity make a really big deal out of the Democrats wanting to silence them. We do have have free speech in this country. Just turn of fyour radio or TV and boycott the sponsors of their shows. Let your $$$ do your talking for you.
They ( Limbaugh, O'Rliey, Hannity, Coulter) are small minded people who would rather make personal money than see all Americans prosper.
I say NO to the fairness doctrine and let your voice be heard by not buying the products of the companies who back their hate talk. Silence them with your wallet!

Everyone here who wants to sign the petition doesn't even WANT to know what he was really saying, you're just letting the media give you an excuse to go on the attack. He wants Obama's socialist policies to fail because he doesn't believe SOCIALISM is right for this country. If his policies succeed in being put into place, then we become a socialist country and capitalism flies out the window. If you all want a socialist country THAT BAD, go to EUROPE. We don't need you here.

Regardless of what kind of person Rush is he is still entitled to what everyone else is entitled to "Freedom of Speech". The Democrats need to worry about getting our country back on track from foreclosures to unemployment and stop worrying and wasting tax dollars on one mans opinion. Don't we have more pressing issues to address like the war in Iraq, what about State Farm Insurance pulling homeowners insurance out of Fl which will affect thousands and thousands of people. Get over yourselves!!!!!

I cannot imagine the Republican conservatives embracing a man who does illegal drugs and abuses women into their fold. Doesn't that say a lot about the Republican party, the same one that preaches family values.

Things must be going well in Washington if the Dems have the time to start this petition. Like their pork in the stimulus...what does this do to help America? Going after free speach is not a democratic thing to do.

This is a pathetic move by the DCCC. Try worrying about political issues and politicians. Leave the private citizens alone. And as for Obama referring to Limbaugh–I would think he has bigger things to worry about than a radio commentator. Or is he advocating the limitation of the First Amendment, or preventing Republicans from engaging in open discussion and viewing all sides of the issues, including the views the Democrats disagree with?

Rush is an idiot, doesn't know what he's talking about, or he does and just plays a really good moron. He doesn't deserve the publicity he's now getting and we should just stop talking about him as if he does not exist.

To hope that President Obama fails is to hope that we as Americans fail in our selection. If you want a modern day cold war communist in our mist look no further. There is a difference between saying comments that bring up your ratings and express your freedom of speech to spreading a hateful sort of propaganda. So lets give him a taste of what it means to be an absolutist republican: lets mark him as an axis of evil and do away with him.

Great, the liberal dems disagree so no more free speech. Regardless of who it is, each of us is entitled to his opinion. I chose not to listen to Rush. But that doesn't mean I want all of BO's socialist policies to succeed. Socialism has failed in many countries and continues to fail in others that insist on trying it. As an American, I want BO to succeed but I refuse to just go along with everything he proposes. Seems like just more give aways, welfare, both corporate and personal; and lots and lots of pork spending. Out of control spending is what got us into this mess. We need to cut both taxes and spending and let those who earn decide what they want to do with their money. Washington is certainly not the answer.

When a dog become rabid, it becomes devoid of competency and reason. Only the foolish would engage in any way at all with it. There's absolutely no upside in doing so. I beg you ... stop enlarging the stage for this nut! At least until his Oxycontin induce haze clears up and he can deduce truth from falsehood.

As to the petition being circulated by the DCCC ... please! You're only adding legitimacy to some drugged-out psycho babble that's not in the slightest worthy of a response.
