Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

Go Rush! Lets start a Pro Limbaugh Campaign! You stupid liberals sure like to dish it out, but cry foul as soon as anything is said against you.

I regret the additional attention which the petition will provide to this obviously self-absorbed font of half-baked economics, far right Hoover-era Republican cant and obvious spite. While it is almost irresistible to strike back at such a mean-spirited wretch, the worst punishment, obviously, is for him to be ignored and marginalized as the blemish on the body politic he is. Same, of course, goes for the sleazy breed of rightist drivel mongers from Hannety to Coulter to Savage. A return to civil discourse and reasoned debate will not be aided by stoking the fires of these cultural troglodytes – with apologies to Cro-Magnon man.

I will gladly sign that petition. He is a proud arrogant rooster who crows for attention. Not a worth paying listening to him.

I do not agree with Rush Limbaugh but I do agree that he is necessary to keep the system in check. You may not like what he says but he does bring attention to matters that should be looked at. Just like every other entity that checks upon the government you are free to disagree with what they say or do but they do help keep the system in line. If you remove the likes of Rush, Hannity, and other radical republican conservtives then any administration that is different will be free and unfettered to do as they please. That will lead to abuse and that will be worse for this country.

He is so full of verve. Family Values? who's family does he value?
    Patriotism? Patriotism to what?

Real Americans won't let that kind of talk hinder them.
If the GOP senate and congress listen to him when their districts began to fall apart, they will suffer more devastating loses.

No body wants the same ole politics from Wash, you see, they didn't get it

I guess freedom of speech only applies to those that agree with President Obama, and the democratic party? Welcome to the "Obamanation" or can you say "1984?"

This guy has been a fraud for many, many years and we've failed to call him on his nonsense. With two wars, an economy in shambles and millions of people out of work all he can offer is ways to further divide people. Is that what being a true conservative is all about? I'm pretty certain its not!

Jerks like Rush need to be run out of town. His comments are so unpatriotic. Included in his Klan are Bill O'Rielly and Sean Hannity. Two other conservative jerks. Need to shut down their talk show/TV show.

I've listened to Rush before and he IS a racist.

If this were 1933, he'd be supporting hitler like Goebles(sp)!

I am white and I supported Obama.

Rush was funny back in the earlt 1990s when he had a TV show!

Hateful racists support Rush. These racists would support death camps and torture.

Has there ever been a better time for this dinosaur, this relic from a dead age, to ride off into the sunset and never return ? Limbaugh's wish that President Obama's stimulus program will fail is too distressing to even make any further comments on. It's over Rush, and you're over too . . . over and out. You are vile and irrelevant. This country so needs a fresh start and so doesn't need you grabbing our ankles, dragging us down into the dirt where you live. Please leave now.

I've listened Limbaugh after I found out in 2001 he was ripping into Bush for his incompetence with Domestic issues. Where was the petition then? Why is he allowed to exercise his Free Speech Rights when he's bashing Bush, but then becomes anti-American pointing out Obama's flaws?

I don't hope Obama fails but he is going to. Most democrats are idiots and do not realize where this country is heading.
