Dems launch anti-Limbaugh petition

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/01/28/art.limbaugh.gi.jpg caption="Democrats are launching a petition against Limbaugh over his recent comments."]

(CNN) - In a bid to capitalize on Rush Limbaugh's recent comment that he hopes President Obama "fails," national Democrats launched a petition drive Wednesday taking direct aim at the conservative radio host.

"Jobs, health care, our place in the world - the stakes for our nation are high and every American needs President Obama to succeed," says the petition, sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. "Stand strong against Rush Limbaugh's Attacks - sign our petition, telling Rush what you think of his attacks on President Obama."

Limbaugh told listeners last week he sharply disagrees with Republicans who have said they hope Obama succeeds as president, and particularly expressed frustration over what he viewed as the "absorption of as much of the private sector by the US government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care."

"If I wanted Obama to succeed, I'd be happy the Republicans have laid down," Limbaugh said. "I hope he fails."

The comment sparked outrage in Democratic circles, while defenders of the remark said it was made purely in the context of Obama's economic polices.

Still, the DCCC petition not only provides an outlet for Democratic anger at Limbaugh, but also serves as a vehicle to gain names and e-mail addresses, presumably for later use in fundraising and organizing efforts.

The petition follows reports Obama warned GOP congressional leaders last week that they should stop listening to the conservative talker, prompting Limbaugh’s response that the new president is "frightened of me."

“He’s obviously more frightened of me than he is [Senate Minority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Limbaugh told listeners Monday. “He’s more frightened of me, then he is of say, [House Minority Leader] John Boehner, which doesn’t say much about our party.”

The idea of a petition is like handing Rush a belated Christmas gift. This man feeds on controversy. Ignore him and he'd fade away with mornings' light, like a bad dream.

It is amazing that millions of Americans will be onboard lock step with the Democrats in taking away our first amendment rights. It starts with taking conservative talk show hosts off the air, then it becomes a crime, probably called hate speech, to say things that are critical of the Obama administration, liberalism, and Democrats.

Limbaugh is against socialism for America, all he said is that he wishes for anyone whose goal is to make this a socialist nation to fail at doing so.

Knowing the history that socialism has on all nations and people who have lived under it, Rush is showing that he is the truest of patriots in wanting our way of life and what our nation has stood for to remain in tact and that he is willing to fight against the socialists, which may very likely be a cause that Rush will die for.

First them come for Rush, but you don't say or do anything because you are not a conservative, then....... (you know the rest, or if not you will soon find out).

Rush is just a slob who doesn't even deserve the energy from us to hate anything he does. He's stupid and all he is doing is making a living feeding off the opposite. May President Obama succeed (and he will) with our help.

Although I despise Rush Limbaugh, I feel, that this is a bad idea. It is just giving him what he wants............. more attention.

Limbaugh, Colter, Palin............. brainless egomaniacs that will do anything to be noticed. The worst treatment they could get would be for the public to ignore them.

What a gas bag. I feel sorry for people who don't bother to research the issues for themselves so they rely on Rush to give them opinions for their own rants. Ditto heads is so very accurate.

Why more unnessary attention is being paid to this moron by the Dems or anyone who is a true patriotic citizen of the USA is beyond me. All he's got is hate, ignorance, intolerance and bigotry that only highlight just how inferior he konws himself to be especially by comparison to a man of President Obama's stature in ALL things that do in fact make up a real man and US citizen. If Limbaugh was even a quarter of all that or his followers guess who would be in the Oval Office right now? Nuff said.

This person needs to be kicked off radio and out of the united states because these kind of comments do nothing but cause despair and they also seek to undermind the public that there is no hope and that there is still ignorant and prejudice people in high places.

The mark of a true hater. This man is so full of himself and out of touch with reality. He just can't come to grips with the fact that Obama won. Pathetic. I hope Limaugh FAILS. Miserably.

this destructive trashy talk jock thrives on publicity good or bad. he will love a petition like this. Clearly there are wingnuts in the community that wait for his every word. Why dont we just let them enjoy eachothers sick company and forget about him.

While I think Rush is abhorrent and I disagreed violently with almost everything that comes out of his mouth, I think this petition is giving him too much attention and accomplishes nothing. This is what he lives for. He probably loved it when Obama mentioned him by name as someone Republican should not listen to. He does have the right to say whatever he wants including that he wants Obama to fail. I say ignore him, like Ann Coulter he'll never go away, so let him bloviate.

All this time he always told his listeners that the Democrats wanted Bush and the economy to fail.

Now he flat out says that he wants Obama to fail.

Turns out Limbaugh is no different than a democrat wanting to see a president fail.

Free speech is free speech. This is trying to target a person because people don't like the way he talks. Turn off the radio.

Let me get this straight....You're against what he's saying and what him to basically just shut his mouth and go away....and THIS is how you try to do that? By starting a petition for everyone to sign and keeping his name, his comments, and his agenda at the media forefonrt???

Wow, and people actually voted to put these geniuses into office?!?!?!

Mr. Limbaugh is free to say whatever he wants even if he is an unpatriotic liar. Those that do commerce with his sponsors support his unAmerican rhetoric. Petitions are worthless unless submitted to his corporate sponsors. Pulling the rug out from under him is the only way to tone down his talk.

Way to go and not get the quote correct. He actually said he wanted Obamas socialistic policies to fail... and not to fail in general.

Rush is making a living on the poor white people that feel maybe they have been left behind in economics, jobs, education and social status. He is their spokesperson however, not a very articulate nor accurate speaker.
Rush is bad for America and if this is the voice of the Republicans i will follow the advice of moderates such as Colin Powell or Kevin McCarthy.

Frightened? Get real. Discretionary is more like it. Rush is an old, sad, pathetic bag of hate that is no longer in fashion. He'll never get it, and he'll be carted off to the old folks home soon. Just ignore him is the Obama message- he's not worth anyone's extra energy. I agree.

The danger of all this is to elevate Limpball's standing with his mindless minions, who clearly are the only part of the population he cares about. He is little more than a sad joke to the real world that he cares little about. So let's just let him sink back into his shallow gene pool.
