Kaine congratulates Steele

(CNN) - Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine congratulated former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele on winning his bid for the GOP chairmanship Friday.

“My congratulations to Michael Steele on his election as chairman of the Republican National Committee," Kaine said in an issued statement  "Together, we have the honor of leading our respective Parties during one of the most important periods in our country’s history."

Full statement after the jump

“My congratulations to Michael Steele on his election as chairman of the Republican National Committee. Together, we have the honor of leading our respective Parties during one of the most important periods in our country’s history. I look forward to working with Chairman Steele as we set out to put partisanship and the politics of the past aside to get our economy working again. The American people have sent a clear message that the challenges we face are too great for us to get bogged down by outmoded ideological divides. They have challenged us to work together to find practical solutions that will put this country back on the right track. President Obama and the Democratic Party are answering that challenge, and I hope Chairman Steele will join us.”

Copycats................The RNC decided that Black is beautiful afterall; what a tool Steele will be for them. He doesn't have the pull to bring minorities together, like President Obama. Good luck GOP, because you will need it in the coming years.

Once again the RNC make a huge mistake. When you only have 3 minorities on your committee you are not diversified. Rush should have been elected since he is the voice of the republican party. The Minority Americans only believe he was elected as the chair because he is Black. Bad Move for the RNC especially when his competitor had to resign from a white's only country club (sounds kind of scripted doesn't it). Wow now that is the RNC. They now have a token....Michael Steele. The World backs Obama...

I do not know anything about Steele but if he can improve or modernize the Republican party in some way that would be progress.
However.... Steeles statement regarding sparing with Obama is not the sign of a good leader.
Obama doesn't have time to spar this isnt a boxing game. The economy in not a game.

    Token??

Were Rice and Powell tokens? was Clarence Thomas a token?

Get over yourself democrats. There are many conservative minorities out there, who want smaller government and who are conservative on social issues.
Which demograph voted heavily against gay marriage in California?

We're all supposed to rejoice in the historic nature of minority democratic successes but when a republican from a minority background gains success,we're treated to "its pandering","its tokenism".
Even worse we have some people using terms like uncle tom just because some black people have the gall to think for themselves and not lump in with the democrats.

    Its disgusting really

shoegazer,BB, Denise, Vern, I can really feel the liberal "Obama, yes we can" vision of love and hope and change and bipartisanship. At least you don't have to look up the definition hypocrispy, bigotry, and racist in the dictionary, all you have to do is look in the mirror.

Dems are pathetic. When racism is finally eliminated, dems will be out of a job. Dems perpetuate racism in order to have a "victim" to protect. You guys are jokes. We criticize Obama for being socialist. You call us racist. We elect an intelligent, principled, black man, you call US racist.

First it was Palin to get Clinton women and now Steele to get who? 'Obamas coalition is too wide to be wooed by tokenism.

hopefully Mr Steele didn't sell his soul to Rush because we all know who the REAL spokesman for the GOP is. Rush, Hannity, Palin, Joe the Plumber, and the GOP has NO idea why they are fading so fast!

I'm shocked-Sarah Palin wasn't written in to lead the party. Isn't that what Rush wanted? What must he be saying now with a black man in charge of his party. wow. I am underawed.

I know republican hate African American because I am African American and I live in a totally racist republican area of the south. Where their hate of African American really came out during the election and after President Obama won the election, Very bad.
