WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Barack Obama on Tuesday admitted he made a mistake in handling the nomination of Tom Daschle as his Health and Human Services secretary, saying Daschle's tax problems sent a message that the politically powerful are treated differently than average people.
Watch: Pres. Obama one-on-one
Daschle, the former Democratic leader in the U.S. Senate, withdrew earlier Tuesday as news that he failed to pay some taxes in the past continued to stir opposition on Capitol Hill.
"I think I screwed up," Obama said in an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper. "And, I take responsibility for it and we're going to make sure we fix it so it doesn't happen again."
What an honorable President. Once again, I admire this Presidents candid ways – he has an incredible ability to keep the trust and do right.
Why is Obama still playing damage control on CNN? He is an idiot and now his ignorant fans are going to come out saying, "At least he can admitt his mistake!". At the end of the day, Obama still elected a tax evading secretary of state so he is still saying the people in politics are above the tax laws. Now there, I said it. >-)
YOU GO MR. PRESIDENT!!! We finally have a leader that DOES NOT mind admitting and owning up to their mistakes. After spending 8 miserable years with an inexperienced "buffoon" that had the attitude of "everything I do is right", it is nice and refreshing to now have a leader that will own up to his shortcomings!
Don't worry about your critics, you just continue doing the GREAT job you are doing and being truthful to the American people!!!
Stay strong, Mr. President................I got your back!!!!!!
That's right Obama! Apologize every time you screw up!!!! Only your dumb supporters will purchase your crap!
Good grief! Just how many prominent political figures are not paying their taxes? PLEASE, would someone do a search! Also, please find out how they get away with it. Thanks in advance.
We have not heard an admitance of I screwed up in over 8 years. I don't like the fact that these 3 appointees were not more truthful about paying their taxes, but their lies did not cost the lives of over 4,200 of our sons and daughters like the one about WMD in Iraq. Nor did it result of thousands of people being displaced after Katrina.
Eight years we had an arrogent punk in the White House who never admitted he made a mistake. Even after no WMDs were found, he didn't make a mistake by starting a war. In my opinion the people who made the mistakes here were the people who didn't pay their taxes. But more power to the President . We still support you!!
Hey Independant Thinker

OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
Obama has made an error however he has also done a lot as a president without previous executive experience since he has taken office. This is one mistake of many during his first term in office. However I bet that his accomplishments out weight the mistake. President obama is an honest man. Those of you.still on the bush wagon when was the first time you heard him admit to his major errors? Obama maybe from Chicago but he has never once carried himself like a Chicago politic.
It was nice to hear the President take responsibility, but disappointint that the problem occurred in the first place. Oddly, many of the posts on this blog show signs of rabid support for the radical fringes of the 2 main parties. The independents are watching to see if we need to clean house again next time.
