Obama making U.S. less safe, Cheney says

(CNN) - The Obama administration's new policies on Guantanamo Bay prison and the treatment of detainees makes it more likely a terrorist attack against the United States will succeed, former Vice President Dick Cheney said Tuesday.

In an interview with Politico, the former vice president issued a stringent defense of the Bush administration's record on the war on terror, and said he worries the President Obama has already made the country more vulnerable.

“When we get people who are more concerned about reading the rights to an Al Qaeda terrorist than they are with protecting the United States against people who are absolutely committed to do anything they can to kill Americans, then I worry,” Cheney said in the interview published Wednesday.

Cheney also predicted the Obama administration is likely to backtrack on its pledge to end coercive interrogation techniques, since the protection of the United States from terrorists is a "tough, mean, dirty, nasty business.”

"These are evil people. And we’re not going to win this fight by turning the other cheek," he said.

The blunt comments come two weeks after President Obama issued executive orders that will close Guantanamo Bay within a year, and shut down secret CIA prisons abroad. Obama also signed an executive order calling on U.S. personnel to follow the Army Field Manual's guidelines when it comes to interrogation.

In the interview, Cheney suggested Obama was irresponsibly adhering to “campaign rhetoric,” and called Guantanamo Bay a “first-class program.”

Cheney to me you should be rotting in jail as a traitor to the US. You have zero credibillity. How about the truth? Haliburton was getting a $1 billion contract to build a permanent base in Guatanamo. I never believed for a minute you were not still involved with them. Go crawl back under your rock

    Dear Mr. Dick Cheney,

the politics of the last administration had polarised the world and had made the world more unsafe than Obama.

Closing Guantano Prison will surley help improve America image in the world.

Ameruca should lead by example and not bully other countries.

    thanks

Bush Admin released about 500 of the 700 Gitmo detainees. They were being forced by court decisions down the path that President Obama is on. To infer that any changes at all are capitulation to the the enemies is the height of disingenuousness. President Obama is making the hard choices on how to protect the US Constitution without shredding it at the same time, unlike Bush.

How can you take anything this Chicken Hawk takes seriously? He concocted a fake war with Iraq, then awarded his own company a no bid contract to "Clean" up in Iraq. When critizied, he outed his own CIA agent. How did that make the US safe? Bush was a rotten President. Cheney was even worse as VP. He isa cowardly little man who had other people do his dirty work. Then tried to hide behind the Constitution.

Please, just crawl back under your rock, and let the President we elected do his job without your corrupt 2 cents

I couldnt disagree with Cheney more.

The resentment of the U.S. is fueled by are selfish interests and pompous elitism we portray to the rest of the world.

We need to embrace and recognize other people of the worlds interest and participate in the world community. Not shut it out if it happens to clash with our own interests.

We try to project freedom of expression as a core value within our society yet we dont allow other countries to disagree with our policies.

Dick Cheney should shut up, and spend his Halliburton money in complete isolation from the rest of the world.

His opinion on anything is completely worthless and he should be thankful that he has not been indicted on his actions while in office.
