Obama reaches out to voters on stimulus

[cnn-photo-caption image=http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/02/07/obama3.jpg caption="Barack Obama is encouraging his voters to support his economic stimulus plan."]

(CNN) - In a video message e-mailed Saturday, President Obama calls on those who voted for him in the presidential election to throw their support behind his economic stimulus plan.

“If you haven’t been affected by this crisis, you’ve likely comforted somebody who has,” Obama says before making his case for the stimulus package making its way through Senate.

Obama says his package will create or save more than 3 million jobs, “many in your own communities,” and insists his plan is one that “America so desperately needs.”

“I know some critics are worried about the scale of this plan but if we fail to pass it promptly, our economy will fall $1 trillion short of what it’s capable of producing this year. In order to make up that difference, economists agree we must act boldly.”

Obama vows to “enlist all of you” to oversee the plan.

“As soon as this plan is signed into law, recovery.gov goes live, and you’ll be able to see precisely where your tax dollars are going, because this is your democracy, and as I said throughout the campaign, change never begins from the top down. It begins from the bottom up,” he says.

The president’s personal message comes as polls show that the public’s support for the stimulus has slipped.

Why do we have to wait until it is signed into law before we see it. The American people have a right to judge and see what we are paying for BEFORE it is law!

Does Barack know how many states we have yet? Or did cocaine destroy that part of his brain completely. Maybe he needs another preaching from Rev. Wright.

The plan is watered down so much, it won't help anymore. How could you cut healthcare, etc. for tax cuts? The tax cuts will go into the savings of those who are lucky enough to still have a job so they can afford the healthcare when they get laid off. If they didn't have to worry about that (future healthcare) they might actually take a chance and spend!

Your actions so far are political and misguided. You told us many things but you did not do them, you are not on the bottom, I still am.
I was replaced by your Ivy Leaque and corporate lobbyists after the election that you won. You have your bully pulpit, bully for you. Just tell me one more time, how the man who voted to do away with the commerce department can now run it for you. CHANGE, onlt the message.

Obama vows to "enlist all of you". Yep. Not only is he enlisting "you" but also he is enlisting future generations to pay this enormous debt. I think there are some things in the bill that make sense and will create jobs, but I there are several items in the bill that are not an urgent need and will not affect the "good of all", for instance the Government getting new cars? It was $600MM and they lowered to $300MM. Come on guys, if you want America to sign on, make sure it makes sense we have to pay for it.

We do not need to change our economic system and what we have been doing from the beginning ,we need to only get back to basics,Obama wants to win his battle, but if he does we will loose the war.

I wonder if there is ANY government spending which DOES NOT fall under the category of "economic stimulus" to this guy. (The democrats are simply playing off people's anxiety and fears in order to RAM through a PORK BILL that is designed to appease targeted members of Congress and payback their special interest sugar daddies .)

So far, Obama has over turned some Bush policies, that begged to be over turned and has gone on a selling spree for his stimulus plan. I would say no real challenges yet.

President Obama and the democrats failed us.

I can't count the hours I spent campaigning for him believing that he was going to bring about change. Instead, all I see it the same only back room politics where good intentions are shunted and the people get screwed so some political party could have it their way.

While I am all about compromise (it is part of my day job) there are times to draw the line. Is anyone intelligent enough in DC to figure that if you put a stimulus package out there an the other side doesn't support it that they are the ones that will look bad? Would it occur that at a time that America needs help that those that refused to help would have to answer to the people at their next election?

Instead we get some watered down, half attempt at a stimulus package that falls short of fully improving education, doing more to turn criminals around, fails to create new green jobs but cutting federal green building, fails to significantly improve our gas dependent fleet of cars by more than half of what was needed (and what a boost it would have been for US Auto Makers – $600 M).

Thanks Dems for really standing up for us while the Republicans screw us. They did it for 8 years and as soon as you get in control you invite them to the dinner table. That's progress! and That's change I can live without!

I fully support President Obama's stimulus plan. It is a plan which should even go further. We don't need any tax cuts. We need, as he advocates, to develop infrastructure in this country.

We are with you, President Obama. And for all you republicans that
can only see to benefit the wealthy in this country, maybe come
election time, you'll see what an unemployment line is like!
And as for John McCain, I thank God every day you lost! God was
truly watching out for America. I saw you and you little buddy
Graham, snickering while Harry Reid was talking. That's how concerned you are! That you can find anything in this to laugh about,
shows me you are just playing politics, you don't put country first,
you put the spotlight first. Shame on you, and we will all remember
this in the voting booth!! Go Obama, thank you for all you've done
so far. We are gaining our respect back around the world.

How come all of you, the Robin Hoods, the Larry's and others on this blog did not bat an eye when Bush & Co. wasted the previous bail out (850 billions) on bankers and other rich people. Quite a selective memory you all have, when it suits you.
Message for you : there are many in the real world who do support President Obama's plan. I just regret it will benefit you !

There are so many valid questions on the stimulus package, It seems to me, the white house staff have not read the package line by line and especially the president himself. I say this because, based on the rhetoric during campaign and on the inaugural day, most of the things included should raise his eyebrows. What the Obama administration should have done is read it line by line but when the president defends a package FULL OF PORK it is not befitting of him. He needs to be careful lest he come back again saying, "I screwed up on the stimulus" I do not support the tax cuts recommendation by the republicans but i would that the package targets specific tasks that can be easily followed or monitored.(energy, infrastructure, education) Having too many projects is not easy to monitor the progress. The president should be aware that not only republicans want him to fail but some democrats want him to fail because they are eying that seat in 2012 which is not so far. He should rely on the people who helped him all through to where he is, their support may be genuine.

Honesty, decency, morality ;- those words are said to be lack in the spirit of the conservatives agenda. That is curious because right now the present administration is loaded with individuals of questionable integrity and honesty, not to mention lack of knowledge to look after our interest and neither after our security as a nation.

We have to be clear on this, people.

Among patriots, true ones, we have to admit that is in the Republican spectrum where we can find those who are fighting for what we are ,… for the values and positives things that characterize this great nation as the stronghold for justice and freedom on this planet.

Did anyone noticed how the deterioration of our ways are fading away every day with the avid efforts from the democrats? Think about this for I am not going to go into details this time. Sufice is to say that EVERYONE MUST WATCH THE MOVES OF THIS PRESENT ADMINISTRATION VERY VERY CAREFULY FOR IS REASONABLE TO BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE ‘ENEMIES OF THE STATE’ INTERESTED TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY,…” AS SOON AS POSIBLE, WITH FIRM AND SWIFT MOVES…”

So, be alert, get informed, analyze,..do not fall behind,
