Obama reaches out to voters on stimulus

[cnn-photo-caption image=http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/02/07/obama3.jpg caption="Barack Obama is encouraging his voters to support his economic stimulus plan."]

(CNN) - In a video message e-mailed Saturday, President Obama calls on those who voted for him in the presidential election to throw their support behind his economic stimulus plan.

“If you haven’t been affected by this crisis, you’ve likely comforted somebody who has,” Obama says before making his case for the stimulus package making its way through Senate.

Obama says his package will create or save more than 3 million jobs, “many in your own communities,” and insists his plan is one that “America so desperately needs.”

“I know some critics are worried about the scale of this plan but if we fail to pass it promptly, our economy will fall $1 trillion short of what it’s capable of producing this year. In order to make up that difference, economists agree we must act boldly.”

Obama vows to “enlist all of you” to oversee the plan.

“As soon as this plan is signed into law, recovery.gov goes live, and you’ll be able to see precisely where your tax dollars are going, because this is your democracy, and as I said throughout the campaign, change never begins from the top down. It begins from the bottom up,” he says.

The president’s personal message comes as polls show that the public’s support for the stimulus has slipped.

It is slowly happening....all those who are claiming "We won the election", are coming to the realization that we ALL lost
the election. We re-elected this congress and are getiing what we deserve.

To Simmy – bo won but this is not a ball game – you don't get a trophy.
What you do get is the honor of being our president and the honor of working for 'we the American people/taxpayers. This is a honor he seems to be taking way to lightly. Instead of letting pelosi & reid write this pkg he should have contacted all of the house & senate – both parties plus govenors and got a feeling of what was really needed rather than trying to cram a pork infested pkg down everyone's throat. That is what bush did and now $78bil is missing. bo needs to do the work he was elected to do – not party & vacation and certainly not rely on people like pelosi & reid to do his work for him.

People need more spendable income. Wages are not going to increase in this economic climate, so the only alternative is to decrease expenses. The price of homes, utilities, automobiles, fuel/gasoline, health care, and interest rates have all increased faster than incomes. They consume so much of a worker's earnings, that little is left for other purchases. Lower household and business expenses equal more disposable income for all. For recovery to occur, these costs must be reduced – either NOW... or LATER, after the economy collapses. Those who help will be heroes. Those who don't will cease to exist.

    Dear Ellie in MD:

Don't worry about having to "put my money on Obama any day". He's gonna take it whether you want it or not.

Just grow pot and sell it to the other dems when they get their "hand out" checks. That should help their balance sheet.

As a Historian, the methods, and mentality reflect two things,; one that when the people choose wicked men to lead them, the people suffer; two that the Democrats are clearly the cause and effect of this economic crisis. There is a clear parallel to our current condition, and that of ancient Rome, just before their fall, they too had an immigration problem, a social welfare problem, and an immorality problem, not to mention an uncontrollable thirst for sex and violence. As in the past with all great cultures, e.g. Greek, Roman, Mayan, and biblical forgetting God, and the above mentioned behaviors have always been the precursors to the end of the empire, and all of them have never been able to return to their previous glory or position. What road are we on?

Somehow this nation has lost its way and its sanity. Just about the time we think tax and spend, money by the pillow bag full is the answer to everything, another dupas rips off people who tried to put something away for retirement. How nuts!

  12. Where the CHANGE is

Obama enlists all of us...um, sounds stunningly similar to communism. Oh, Lord what have you lib/dems done. Now that we got the Compromised Republican Action Plan (you put your acronym here...), we got a small number of politicians (gang of 18) making policy BO rubber stamp signs. ...or is this just what the party of CHANGE is all about.

    God help us all.

it's clear the republican fear progress in america will lead to more election lost so they want Obama to fail, though they talk about how they will coperate to help him better america. GOD choose him so regardless of your support or not republicans will fail as they failed in the last elections trying to divide the country.

fools fooled by obama...you can't use bush for the failures of Dodd, Frank, Reid and pelosi. their majority in congress for the last two years and the agenda of spreading the wealth does not create jobs, but lets the sheeple accept welfare. The 2nd coming of J.Carter indeed.

It is pretty clear that the same people who played the "ostrich" during
Pres. Bush's administration aren't going to do the same for Pres.
Obama. A little late to wake up, don't you think?

If there was a black man who is a model of what a president should be, it is Michael Steele. It is a shame that he was not a candidate or he would have had my vote. The fact that the GOP put John McCain in, is a clear indication that they wanted to lose. The man was an bumbler, a sham. Mitt Romney was the best candidate, and they took measures to ensure he was out. Barak Obama is a fraud of the first degree, and we shall groan under his Chicago style political methods. I did not vote for him, but for those who did, I hope you enjoy what you got.

The suspended tax deductions for a few is still underway along with worsening recession, leaving the economy uncompetitive merely resting on tax relief, to be sure, the success lies in advanced science, not wal-mart price, though, I think. By the way, those who fret over the red ink are recommended simply to calculate the costs of imported fuel coupled with the wasteful, destructive war costs, then the direction will be clear, as the proposed stimulus package is directed to energy liberty, hence it can be cited as a acceptable one as a whole, wanting further investments. Thank you for reading. Only optimistic & grateful person can reap happiness/success as we know.

This stimulus package is our only hope to get things back on track. What is very disappointing is the money the Republicans cut that would have directly gone for local aid. That money would have made the quickest difference. The Republicans still don't get. They got us into this mess and they just want to get us in deeper.

A great man once said "There are economists and people who think they are economists. There are a lot of people who think they are economists."

Just taking a quick peek at what the stimulus package entails, I'd say pretty much all of it will create some sort of job. No telling how long they will last, but there will be jobs. Jobs create spending, spending either creates jobs or supports jobs that are already in place. Health care decreases health problems. Healthy people work more. It's all good in the hood. And remember folks, President Obama did say it is going to take time. If you expected the economy to be fixed already you were deluding yourself. I'm hanging on by my toenails and hoping for the best.

Democrats should stand firmly and support Solis for the Labor job.
Don`t allow the republican Bully in the senate to derail her nomination.
They are citing tax flap of her husband as an excuse but they are lying hypocrite . John mccain and the wife were delinquent in their taxes of one of their many houses in California and the media never made a big deal of it .
Hispanic and the all the minority should stand firm and defend this great woman for this job.

Obama better get hold of his liberal congressmen and women. The problem is all the crap that they put in this bill that will not stimulate this nation. Only a large portion of liberal garbage, condoms and the such. There is a Walgreens on every corner, go put some money into the economy and buy some and don't expect a hand out. This is the probelm. This is what the american people are upset about. Your wasting your time reaching out to us. Talk to your Dem buddies in congress and tell them to get their heads out of there butts and do what is right and cut all the pork and give aways.
The nation needs help but not that kind.
