President Obama no stranger to Elkhart

(CNN) - President Barack Obama's no stranger to Elkhart, Indiana, where he's holding a town hall meeting today to promote his plan to stimulate the economy.
Obama made a short stop in the northern Indiana city in early May, when he was battling Hillary Clinton for his party's presidential nomination. Clinton narrowly edged Obama in the primary, but she ended up dropping out of the race for the White House a month later.
Obama returned to Elkhart and held a rally in the northern Indiana city in early August, when he was fighting Republican Sen. John McCain for the presidency. Obama edged out McCain by 1 percentage point in the general election, becoming the first Democratic presidential candidate to win the state since 1964.
Elkhart's unemployment rate topped 15 percent in December, about triple what it was a year ago. The city's jobless rate is about double the national average - a number of the nation's top recreational vehicle makers are located in Elkhart, and hundreds of workers at those plants have lost their jobs.

Let's see how many times he can say CATASTROPHE. Someone needs to tell this guy that you don't need to spend $820 billion (plus $35 billion in interest) to stimulate the economy. He needs to remember that he's spending OUR money. Some of us pay our taxes, not like Geithner, Daschle, and the rest.

FYI: The reason he uses the word "catastrophe" is to avoid using the word "depression". Don't listen to Obama. Listen to the economists, both liberal AND conservative.
We're all in denial that we're dangerously close to a depression. Not as bad as the Great Depression, but a depression nonetheless.
A depression is simply a severe recession (which everyone knows we're in now), that lasts several years, instead of one or two. We're in the third year now, and things are still getting worse, so it will be another three before we're back to normal.
That's five or six years, which makes this a DEPRESSION!!!

The only reason he has to sell it is because the GOP is fearmongering about it and using misinformation about the stimulus bill to scare people...not to mention regurgitating their tired "tax cuts" and "trickle down economics" nonsense, coupled with a smattering of blabber about "socialism" even though it's neither true nor accurate and their economic ideology has been disproven. The GOP is digging its own grave.
Obama wants to limit salaries of businesses but why are the salaries of congress not reduced?
Why are welfare people not forced to work?
Why are food stamps not limited to basic low cost food and not expensive food items taxpayers can not afford?
Why is Obama increasing the # of federal employees and not reducing departments?
Why is Obama breaking promises but not allowing comments on his website on bills?
It's too bad the Republicans lost credibility.

Since the downturn of the economy, it has been harder for me to keep up on monthly payments. What am I doing to fix this? Moving in with my son until things get brighter.
The Republicans got us in this mess, Araq War, no regulation on mortgages. It will take Obama to straighten this out, Thank god McCain was not picked. There should be an age limit on Senators after a while they become Senile!

When will America learn? Spending does not fix the economy. The New Deal did not get us out of the Great Depression...WWII did. War production did. (i.e.= creating jobs.) President Obama- offering tax breaks to help more businesses create jobs will fix our economy, not spending so much that our great-great-great grandchildren will still be paying for it.

Trickle down economics failed. That is a fact. The republicans sucked money from us, OUR tax dollars and gave it all to the rich. Why, because they believe that rich people must be smarter than others because the only thing that matters is accumulation of wealth to prove if you are a good person or not. That is the republican philosophy and it is as bankrupt as much as the economy that philosophy created.

Most of us are economically illiterate. That's our school system's fault. How many of us know what Keynesian economics is? I learned it in college, but forgot it. They didn't teach it in high school.
