Capitol Hill Web sites crashing over stimulus bill

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/02/13/art.house1.gi.jpg caption="Congressional Web sites are crashing over the stimulus bill."]CAPITOL HILL (CNN) - Just hours after Congressional leaders posted the final version of a $789 billion stimulus deal, staffers on Capitol Hill faced both a surge of demand on key Web sites and an apparent technical glitch that crashed those sites off and on throughout the morning.

A spokesman for the Senate appropriations committee told CNN Radio that their site had been up and down all Friday morning. He said technicians had found an apparent server problem that was not related to increased demand.

The technical issue crashed the system at one of the most high-profile moments in years, intermittently blocking the Appropriations homepage and some of the few other sites where taxpayers could find the details of the economic stimulus deal Democrats posted specifics to the Internet late Thursday night. Staffers said that technology crews were working to fix the problem and restore the sites.

That's because we, the people, want to read what it is they are pushing through with little debate and little support. They prey on fear and do not listen to their constituents.

Good think we now have the most tech savvy administration of all time. They knew how to bring down the servers so that no one could review the bill before the vote.

Good jobs boys, that is the change we are looking for.

85% of the money in this bill won't even be spent this year. A few days won't matter. Obama promised 5 days public review of every bill before a vote. What's the rush? Maybe they are afraid that the more the public knows, the less popular the bill is. KEEP YOUR PROMISE OBAMA!!!

There is nothing wrong with being a conservative. That doesn't make you stupid. There is, however, something wrong with republicans in that being one sort of makes you look like an old white bigot.

It would be nice if being conservative didn't have to automatically mean you are a republican. Branding can be a real pain in the #!@

Not a problem. Just fix the capitol hill servers. I'll bet they could do it for less than a hundred billion dollars. What a bargain!

Let us hope that Obama keeps his campaign promises. Like his promise that a bill will not be signed (by him) for 5 days after emerging from Congress. But I doubt the public will get 10 minutes to see the final bill and all its bells and whistles (here piggy piggy) before he signs it.

And Hmm... A majority of Americans do not want this 'non-stimulus' bill anyway. It contains pork that will not improve the economy. It also has provision giving and/or leading to increase government control of a variety of business sectors and even some personal choices.

They said it had nothing to do with server overload. The question is do you believe them?

Regardless, it's a slap in the face that they voted on the bill before it was physically possible to read the bill in time.

Because, we the people, want to read what they are trying to ram through by fear. It's obvious why they rush this bill and don't want to debate it.

Crashing websites are a metaphor for the crashing economy and the crashing simpletons in Obama's World whose incomprehensible economic theories have driven this unworkable "plan".

That's the most retarded thing I've read in the past year. Where did you pull that one out of. No–nevermind, I don't want to know.

What an uninformed, ignorant thing to say. Any server, regardless of how redundant the backup and load balancing have been configured, is susceptible to crashes because of too much traffic.

This isn't Norm Coleman we're talking about where his techies actually faked the crash by changing the IP address of where the domain name was pointing to.

I doubt very seriously that it was crashed by people congratulating them on this monster.

isn't it a sign of the end times when people start BELIEVING that their elected officials are telling them the truth.

    That's in the Bible right?

Must be in someones Bible, may by??

Ironic indeed. Republicans were scoffing about the need to upgrade technology at State dept., etc. Some of those funds could have been used to upgrade servers at the capitol as well. Hope they can see what antiques and relics they have on the hill. These are the same people who like to brag about being the greatest country in the world, but yet they depend on old and outdated facilities.

Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I get 15.00 dollars every
two weeks. Not older enough for retirement, which is gone., thanks to Wall Street. Don't have any kids, and my husband and I will get 15.00 dollars. Can't you any of the tax breaks, but I pay my taxes and always
seem to owe more at the end of the year, so I pay them. Thank you
    very much Congress.

Give Obama a chance. At least he's doing something. Remember it's the GOP that got us in this huge mess.

This tax credit for people buying new cars & homes. .people who can afford to buy a car so expensive to warrent this credit on interest, are not hurting financially & don't NEED this help! Sick of helping the wealthy! Just give that money to the poor & stand back- then you will see real stimulating spending! This was suppose to creat jobs & help those in need Not the well-to- do. What a shame, when they couldn't even help those on food stamps, the price of food jumped with the $4+ a gal gas & these people have been struggling ever since but forget them & give the fat cats another tax break!
