Anti-stimulus ad uses Jesus

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/02/20/art.issues.cnn.jpg caption="A PAC is out with a new ad against the stimulus bill."]WASHINGTON (CNN) – A conservative organization launched a national television ad Friday criticizing the $787 billion stimulus bill, and called into question one of President Obama’s main campaign promises to bring change to Washington.

The American Issues Project uses points of historical reference to show how $787 billion could stretch over time from the birth of Jesus to the current day.

“Suppose you spent one million every single day starting from the day Jesus was born and kept spending through today,” an announcer says as images of the three wise men, the Roman Coliseum, the Mona Lisa and other historic landmarks flash across the screen. A million dollars a day for more than 2,000 years. You would still have spent less money than Congress just did.”

The ad also criticizes millions of dollars in earmarks in the legislation, saying that money was allocated for golf carts, fish hatcheries and remodeled federal offices. The ad also shows a video snippet of Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-New York, on the Senate floor saying the American people don’t care about “little tiny, yes, porky amendments.”

It closes by asking, “Is this change you can believe in?”

The organization said it will spend nearly $1 million on the ad that is scheduled to run on CNN, CNN Headline News, FOX News CNBC and FOX Business Network.

Wow- what a great analogy. Getting people to think of it on a personal level and not mentioning that the stimulus bill is intended to help the entire country, with a population of over 300 million people and 11.6 million umemployed!

Republican talking points... blah blah blah blah... Nothing new. The sad thing is that our country is in a serious crisis right now, and you'd think the GOP could suspend this crap for a while, but no. Most economists agree that the stimulus was needed, and that we'll need another one. Enough of this nonsense.

and they didn't 'use' jesus, we regularly use jesus' birth to mark the division of AD from BC and that's all they were doing with this showing the 2 thousand years since jesus to show how many millions of dollars this was. this isn't invoking religion for political purpose are people crazy?

so sick of watching him on TV.....
No stimulus bill.. if company can't compete and survive, let them fail and reorganize, this include banking & autos industry , if people can't afford paying their mortgage, then they should never own it at the first place.
So mad at what is going on in this country......

I guess the RepubliKlans have reached a new low. Nothing they have done so far has worked for them. This is probably because they are all on the side of the satanic rich. Now they are looking towards Jesus for divine intervention when doing their calculations. Figures dont lie, but RepubliKlan liars Figure.

Lets think of another comparison ...

Thus far we've spent about $600billion on the war in Iraq and have gotten nothing out of it. It's expected to reach over $1trillion by the time we leave

Congress is spending $800billion to create 3.5 million new jobs (which will then increase tax revenue), fix our crumbling infrastructure, and save us money in the future through programs like electronic medical records.

And which of these is the irresponsible spending that is going to bankrupt our children?

"The organization said it will spend nearly $1 million on the ad that is scheduled to run on CNN, CNN Headline News, FOX News CNBC and FOX Business Network." Wow..what else could they have been doing with that million dollars? Seriously! What is the expected outcome? We've got FOUR MORE YEARS minimally of Obama in office...what is this waste of money supposed to accomplish? Idiots.

"He says it's not fair to compare the current economic crisis to the Great Depression, because the federal government was far more passive in the 1920s."

Thank you, thank you! And for the record, what happen in 1873, we just got out of a war not even ten years and arguably one of the greatest President of all time( I love saying that). I cannot stress enough how the economy changed that day forward and how capitalism came to be. For crying out loud, the Union was a industrial place to live but the South, they were going another direction! I cannot stress how important that day was, economically and financially. I believe that is one of the most underrated events in our nations history, I cannot tell you how that day forward changed our lives forever...

And during FDR's time, they had it worse! Unemployment rate was at an all time high, people were literally poor, etc. You know, I've always said that FDR deserves a spot at Mt Rushmore, why?? People liked him, they appreciated him. He did so much for so few and that's right Dems are who we thought they were...

I can't stress enough our time now Vs those times, very utter similarities, very unpredictable events, etc. Now, is not about who's making the right decisions or who is right or who is smarter, look at what your capitalistic government did in the long run, thank the free market...

Could it be worse?? Ohh yeah, of course. And when we hear both political parties talk about who is right or wrong, we laugh at their face, why?? They think is a joke and I'm telling you now, it ain't no joke...ohh and one last thing, don't be noisy, please, don't be noisy because I GUARANTEE you on my grandma, I will talk to both parties again and say, "I told you so."

And I don't know if its us but whenever you use Jesus for capital gain or personal use, we not only think is blasphemous but disrespectful. Jesus doesn't want him to use him as a toy...and tell Conservatives don't go there with me.

This is entirely unfair!!! Instead of looking at the massive amount of money that Congress just spent in an attempt to restore our economy, we should remember that drastic measures like this one wouldn't be needed if our previous president hadn't placed us all in this tailspin in the first place. Remember, Barack didn't put us in this predicament, and we can't blame the man for trying his best to get us out of this mess. Give the stimulus time to pass or fail. Everyone deserves that much.

And they wonder why people are hating christians more and more and more every day. They are becoming the most hateful group in America and until Christians start speaking out against this kind of rhetoric I will continue to lump them into one solitary mindless group. It is their responsibility to speak out against these kind of religious oriented commercials that incite division and animosity. In not doing so they are actually worse than the idiots who dream up these things. Your "god" would not be pleased, unless he has changed drastically since I went to Catholic school.

Conservatives' battle against the Dem plan seems like they are faced with ugly demons. Their holier-than-thou and know-it-all attitudes may rile up plenty of illwill and deadly dudgeon among their liberal foes leading to more pitched and fiercely argumentative fights. Whether or not it crosses the line of constructive criticism will, certainly, be keenly watched with nervously negative notions, by the populace.

Invoking the Almighty's name for the purpose of spreadin' their less clearly founded and understood beliefs, and tenets of conservatism, might be viewed with considerably less gusto by the opponents. We may have to have recourse to well recognized and authoritative references in these matters of immense and intense ideations, if there are any.
