White House releases excerpt of tonight's address to Congress

WASHINGTON (CNN) –– The White House released an excerpt this afternoon of the speech President Obama will deliver to a joint session of Congress this evening:

"But while our economy may be weakened and our confidence shaken; though we are living through difficult and uncertain times, tonight I want every American to know this: We will rebuild, we will recover, and the United States of America will emerge stronger than before.

"The weight of this crisis will not determine the destiny of this nation. The answers to our problems don’t lie beyond our reach. They exist in our laboratories and universities; in our fields and our factories; in the imaginations of our entrepreneurs and the pride of the hardest-working people on Earth. Those qualities that have made America the greatest force of progress and prosperity in human history we still possess in ample measure. What is required now is for this country to pull together, confront boldly the challenges we face, and take responsibility for our future once more."

I got a preview of the speech:

"Hi. Remember how I let my followers believe in immediate peace, prosperity, totally new government, hearts and flowers everywhere?

    Um, nevermind. Thank you."

CNN reports that a majority of Americans think Obama will give a good speech.

That is what he does and well reading from a teleprompter.

What really matters is positive action and we have seen little of that in the first month.

CNN Retards....this is not high school and Joey gave a really good speech or will give a really good speech. Your sophomoric reporting is an insult to all thinking Americans.

    LOL,

I bet Republicans wish they had someone with just an ounce of what President Obama is.

I watch in joy every time our President speaks. Whenever the last President would speak I would start to drool and stick cherios on my forehead.

Who give a big crap how good a speech is? For crying out loud – we need action – not speeches, false promises, money spending and lies that we've gotten so far!

This is what we need to hear because this country is the greatest and
everybody knows it I'm tired of all the doom and gloom our president ,
or the press is going to solve our problems we are if we can remember where we come from for example we all have lost a job at least once in our life and what did we do we got off our butts and found a new job , also we lived when money was tight before and look
we made it and we came back stronger and the stock market been
down before and it came up again and finally if you lost your house that means 1 thing if you can do it once you can do it again so don't give up that's not what we are about , just get every morning and say
how can I make this country better and remember the old saying
WHAT COMES AROUND GOES AROUND and WHAT DOESN'T BREAK US WILL MAKE US STRONGER.

    @no corporate politics,
You dolt! That;s why we voted for Obama. Because he didn't just tell people what they wanted to hear. He has said all along that this would be a difficult road. He even said during the campaign when asked, "Are you afraid you might lose?" And he said, "No. I'm afraid I might win."
He never said this would be easy. He never said things were rosy. He never said We'd have immediate Peace and Prosperity.
It's the Republicans that tell the Christians what they want to hear and then sell their votes to the highest bidder. It's the republicans that haven't done anything to stop abortion, until they finally screamed and they banned harvesting stemcells from zygotes that would be flushed anyways. It's the republicans who controlled the Congress, Courts, Executive Branch and the media. Yet, we still don't have prayer in public schools.
The only promise they kept was to cut taxes for rich guys.
You are the one who was lied to. Not Me.
You are the one who is dissillusioned (and should be). Not me.
You are the one who was cheated and didn't know it. I was too.
But, that's why I voted for Barrack Obama.
Liberals won. Get Used to it.

  11. Fix the economy

Just fix the economy already. Less talk, more action. Just do it. It can't be THAT hard. I am sure professional economists already know exactly what to do to get this thing fixed pronto, so let's just do whatever they recommend. Besides, giving fancy speeches that sound nice is just silly. If we wanted someone like that we would have elected him President by now. What is the whole point of speeches anyway? It's not like anyone pays any attention to them. Certainly not the traders on Wall Street. Whoops I misspelled "traitors" in that last sentence. Sorry.

Wow, this guy can do absolutely no wrong for some reason or another. He gives us a bill that ONLY aids certain homeowners. What about us that were financially responsible and decided against even BUYING a home because we couldn't afford it? So my taxes will go to help a few? Ridiculous. I can understand stimulus for the financial sectors, we all benefit from them staying in business. But I don't benefit from Bob down the street getting some of my tax money to help him keep his home. I wish I could own a home, can't afford it though. What about the wonderful car stimulus package we did? Oh wait, the car corporations will STILL go bankrupt, good call on that one. Nobody is going to be buying cars right now, but hey, money well spent Barack. What about this new stimulus package that has important spending such as providing for new sod for the Smithsonian musuem grounds. Wow, that is stimulating. I don't care what you have to say Barack, get back to work and come up with something competent, that's what we are paying you for, not for pretty speeches that "inspire" us. You are proving to be as worthless as old King George Bush.

  14. No Hillary = No Obama

Start the "camera count". Let's see how many times Obama "needs" the audiences, the cameras, the clapping in order to do his job. Americans don't need sales talk – they need substantive remedies. Since he has been President – he's been in front of crowds yapping while the stock market sinks, the unemployment rates go up, people are displaced from their homes, crying on the news and this guy is smiling.

    I'm behind our President...100%!
My opinion is that it is going to take a lot of effort on the part of everyone one of us to get this country back on track, no thanks to eight years of Republicans screwing it up.
Let's give him more than 30 days to do what he said he will do.

One thing he will say is that most of our troops will be out of Iraq by August 2010. Sounds pretty much like that is when "conditions on the ground" would warrant such a pullout. Thanks for following Bush's lead on this, it's good to hear him acknowledge that Bush was right on this.

Thank you President Obama. I appreciate what you have done already. It is true that you do give a good speech but thank goodness your actions speak even louder than your words.

I believe you are the person for 'such a time as this' in our country.
A little old lady at our church gave us a single word of advice that served us well, for all these years, and I now give it to you: "Continue"!

I would like it explained to America why School funds were cut. When our schools are already haveing a hard time. Yet the abortion clinics and planned parenthood here in the United States and in other countries get billions of dollars. Are they more important than our childrens education. These children are our future.

I read the comments from the GOPers, they criticize, demean, hate, spew the typical vile........ BUT you offer NO solutions or ideas! Nor do you take the blame for "your president's" DISASTER.

    Again and again I ASK:

WHERE WERE ALL THE SO-CALLED-FISCAL-CONSERVATIVES WHEN BUSH WAS...........DOUBLING....... OUR NATIONAL DEBT?

WHEN BUSH WAS SPENDING $10 BILLION A MONTH IN IRAQ???

WHEN BUSH WAS OKAYING ALL THE PORK SPENDING FROM THE GOP CONTROLLED CONGRESS (1994-JAN.2007)??????

    HYPOCRITES.

PLEASE OBAMA SUPPORTERS LET'S BOYCOTT ALL THINGS ....FOX...... "FAUX NEWS" ........MOVIES, SPORTS, EVERYTHING! THEY ARE FREE TO SPEW HATE .........AND WE ARE FREE TO BOYCOTT!

America simply needs stability and an end to surprises coming in the back door. We need rules which apply to all so we know what to expect. Government can no longer choose which laws they wish to enforce from immigration to financial we must enforce all laws to level the field.
