Dem blasts Obama's budget

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/02/26/art.taylor.gi.jpg caption="Taylor, a Democrat, says the budget isn't 'change.'"](CNN) - Mississippi Democratic Rep. Gene Taylor blasted the budget outline President Obama submitted to Capitol Hill today, saying “I don’t like it…change is not running up even bigger deficits that George Bush did.”

“That’s what George Bush did very well. Apparently that’s what President Obama is doing.”

Taylor, a conservative “blue dog” who voted against the stimulus bill, noted he was still reviewing the plan but was troubled by the additional amount of spending for many government programs on top of the recent increased funding many agencies received in the economic stimulus bill.

Watch: Conservative Dems dog Obama

As a member of the Armed Service Committee, Taylor noted the budget only gives the Defense Department a “small increase,” which he said would barely cover the cost of living adjustments for the military.

Taylor pointed to President Obama’s inaugural address that called for Americans to make sacrifices, saying “It’s certainly not reflected in his budget.”

    @ bebo who wrote:

"Greg in pa. we did nt have to go to war remember that! That what got all of this started."

    How soon we forget.

We went into Afganastan because they were harbouring the terrorists who brought down the World Trade Center and destroyed part of the Pentagon and killed a bunch of Americans in the process.

We went into Iraq because Sadam would not let weapons inspectors in to verify he was not producing biological and chemical weapons again...note the "again" part since he had a track record of using them and using them on his own people. If Sadam had simply let the weapons inspectors in there would not have been any doubt about the intelligence that said they had them which is exactly what he (Sadam) wanted everyone to think.

Give me a break with "generational theft." Debt is inherent in both the capitalist system and government in general. We must use more debt now to generate economic activity but lessen it when the economy inproves, as stipulated by the original Keynesian doctrine which helped get us out of the Great Depression.

Do you think those 65 million voters are equipped to take care of anything when they live in states that are recieving the majority of their tax money from the states that vote blue?

    Are you serious?

    WE are supporting YOU.

The greatest intellectual swindle the Republicans ever pulled off was convincing thier base that the government is taking money from THEM to give to minorities. It is to laugh. You DO realize that the majority of the money you get in the South and the Midwest comes from taxes collected on the COASTS, right?

I have nothing but pity and contempt for people who believe as you do. You've simply been hoodwinked, swindled, scammed, and lied to. And each and everyone one of you have swallowed that garbage hook line and sinker.

Rep. Gene Taylor is a "closet republican."...It is his old policy thinking that got us into trouble to begin with...Being proactive is the only avenue for growth and improvement and this is what I call a good investment in America!...Beside, he's an "old school" southerner from Mississippi, need I say more!

Under George Bush we had 9-11 and we also had 5 years of very good economic growth. For the last two years of the Bush Administration, Pelosi and the Dems controlled the House -- just as the Dems have controlled the house for 34 of the past 40 years. The probkem is in the Democratic House where we have too many liberal tax and spend beauracrats

Let's not forget that the Bush budget didn't include spending on the wars in Irag and Afganistan. He handled that separately, thinking he could fool everybody. Apparently he did, and is still fooling some people.

Bravo, President Obama. America has put off major investments for decades to plesae the rich. Now the spoil brats what's to scream over a tax hike. 47 million people have no health insure and that number does not include the baby boomer retiring in 2011.

The budget is dangerous. The tax increases will hit small business owners like myself and they are the lifeblood for new jobs. This will hurt any growth coming out of the recession

Are you kidding me? People are on here bashing this guy for speaking out against this budget? He's right people! You have any idea of how much tax rates would need to increase for us to pay for a budget this big? We NEED to trim spending!

You have to love these Congressman who know EVERYTHING but have done NOTHING. The President has advisors who KNOW their job and gee what has Congress done for the last two years while the Democrats were in power, HUH that would be NOTHING. (It is a given that the Republicans while in power also did everything to screw up the economy) Taking all this into consideration the only conclusion is that the Congressman should just SHUT UP and stop adding PORK to their bills.

He has blasphemed! Guess he's gonna be getting a visit from Nancy "hopping up n down" Pelosi, wearing her 70's green bathrobe.

How dare he say such things about The Almighty One.

And kudos to 'tom', who at the second comment already tossed out the race card! The new modus operandi, if you disagree with Obama, and you're white, you of course have to be racist. Nice. 'tom' you are a sad, pathetic example of a human being.

President Obama is being truthful to all Americans. He put it all out there. He is not hiding anything, including the two wars. Bush did not put the budget, he just took money from Social Security, medicare and whatever else he could get his hands on.
I do not have a problem that those making $250,000 or more paying additional taxes, they basically got a free ride for the last eight years.

We have a president who is honest and has a plan. And don't you worry, this budget will be changed after all the law makers get their two cents worth.
