Democrats voice concerns on Obama's Iraq drawdown plan

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/POLITICS/02/27/iraq.dems/art.pelosi.gi.jpg caption="House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has questioned the need to keep 50,000 troops in Iraq until 2011."]
WASHINGTON (CNN) - Top Democrats have expressed concerned over President Obama's plan to draw down nearly two-thirds of U.S. forces in Iraq by August 2010, while some key Republicans are offering praise.

At issue: Obama plans to leave between 35,000 to 50,000 residual forces in the war-torn country, serving in a training or advisory role to the Iraqi military.

All U.S. troops have to be out of Iraq by December 31, 2011, under an agreement the Bush administration signed with the Iraqi government last year. There are currently 142,000 U.S. troops in Iraq.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, recently cited concern that the residual force Obama is planning to leave in Iraq is too large.

Pelosi and Reid are running this country. Obama doesn't know how. He also should not try to take credit for ending the war in Iraq. Bush and Malaki already agree the US would be out by 2011. Obama is sending them to Afganistan, not Bush. Afganistan is 3 times worse than Iraq and that is Obama's war.

Now where have I heard the word "advisors" before? 1965, I think that was when the first friend I lost in Viet Nam was killed. ALL OUT NOW!

Obama Supporter. You obviously have a hearing problem. He never said we would be out of Iraq in 6 months. He is more truthful and transparent than any President in history. The re-election will be a landslide without your vote.

What the hell does Madam Speaker know about what is considered the appropriate size for a residual MILTARY FORCE???????????? I really think she should know what she's talking about before opening her mouth to critize the President! She will be the downfall of the dems if someone doesn't tell her to STFU!!

In just a few weeks were going to have a anniversary. How many years in Iraq? How much money spent? How many killed? In my opinion this plan is way to long! By the way, where's Bin Laden?

Steve, Mr. Republican, please. You are not fooling me. You and others who pretend to be discontented Dems. need to try another tactic. Go and support your CPAC crew. What a charade of a party. Lol. Oops, my bad. You be da man. Spare me.
I concede to the judgments of President Obama and his military advisers. He said that all troops would be gone by 2011, and that's more hope than FPGB offered. I only pray that He (PBO) will not allow Afghanistan to become another Viet Nam. I was hoping that after Iraq they would concentrate on finding Bin Laden. Hopefully, Sen. McCain will share his inside information regarding his whereabouts, or he can capture or kill him (BL). That would be total icing on the American cake.

All will be well Sen. Reid and Spk. Pelosi. Be more supportive.

WE should leave Iraq now and certainly not leave 50,000 troops at a time when the economy is in such disarray. Iraq can take care of itself.

This is following the timeline for full withdraw in 2011. If he didn't change anything he couldn't claim political victory of ending the war that was going toend anyway! Nanci Pelosi is the worst statesperson elected to office!

    To Obama Supporter,

Get the facts correct...President Obama said 16 months not 6 months. This man is doing everything he can to make this country better. He is sincere, honest and is working for all americans. He was left a big mess and he is trying to clean it up. Let us support President Obama instead of bashing him.

I voted for Barack Obama, not Nancy Pelosi. I do not agree that voting for Barack Obama means I endorse all the democrats (including Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi)

I think its about time some hard left people realized that.

In my opinion the radicals on both side are the same. Political viewpoints are a circle, if you are extremaly to the left as far as I am concerned you are on the same ground as those extremaly to the right.

Moderates are who I vote for. Not parties.

Time for a Bloodbath on Obama's hands in the Middle East. What else can this nightmare administration provide, other than a total economic collapse and letting Osama Bin Laden hail his victory over us.

This country is in a downward spiral and you folks are still throwing the "Republican – Democrat" blame at the issues... Funny really.

Do me a favor, print this comment and put it in your pocket, keep complaining and doing nothing to change the landscape of politics locally, just trust your leaders, and then read this again in 2 years when the economy is in the toilet and it's too late...

(seriously, read this again in 2 years)
