Senator calls Obama 'world’s best salesman of socialism'

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/02/27/art.bocu0227.gi.jpg caption="For the second time in as many days, a prominent Republican has likened Pres. Obama's policies to socialism."]

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Another prominent Republican told the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday that the president’s spending plans are pushing the country to the brink of socialism.

Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, the only member of the senate to earn a perfect rating from the American Conservative Union, called President Obama “the world’s best salesman of socialism” on Friday in describing his prime time speech earlier this week.

DeMint, a fierce opponent of government expansion, told the CPAC crowd that conservatives might have to “take to the streets to stop America’s slide into socialism.”

His remarks comes a day after Mike Huckabee told the conference of conservative activists that “the Union of American Socialist Republics is being born” with the president’s stimulus package.

“Lenin and Stalin would love this stuff,” Huckabee said of the government bailing out financial institutions.

I never heard Democrats suggest that anyone take to the streets except to protest the actions of the Bush administration. Now DeMint says we need to "take to the streets to stop America's slide into socialism". This sounds like force. This sounds like treason. Every day I want to keep getting further away from the Republican party. Is this now the party of spoiled brats who aren't in power now- so they want to end the game and don't even play nice if they are in control?
These people really do need to fade away so this country can move forward. I may not like everything being done now but for the past 8 years capitalism wasn't working out so well.

These people are living in another world at another period in time. The days of rugged individualism as perceived by these monoliths are long gone. Even an actor who played a cowboy on TV isn't going to bring that reality back. Now's the time for creativity. Instead of thinking all or nothing as these dinosaurs are doing, think more of public/private partnerships so that the private arena doesn't get lost. Instead we're just hearing more 'no', more unrealistic junk about cutting taxes that don't make sense in this world. You want car companies to compete with foreign companies where insurance costs are paid nationally, then you have to think of how to be competitive, that means affording workers the opportunity to get health care without employers subsidizing the cost. Either come up with solutions are STFU.

See sheep, we don't want to bail out the banks either, there used to be something called self accountability in this country, but is gone.

Small and medium banks are thriving, it is the big bullies that had their houses picketed by ACORN and were forced by Barney and Chrissy to give loans to people that had "no money" and the banks are now being bailed out and Barney and Chrissy keep their jobs.

Obambi preaches it, but he doesn't mean it, big "gubment" will take care of everything if you fail it's the new American way.

I live by the credo that we are all guaranteed Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness, but RESULTS MAY VARY.

    One and done Barry.

What does that make Sen DeMint? He is a pimp for screwing public in the name of "free market capitalism." Republicans are becoming nauseating as I hear more of their hypocrisy. They take hand outs from federal government like Katrina and tax revenues then turn around act big. The God loving people seem to ignore people's suffering. If DeMint compares Obama to Stalin and Lenin, does it mean we need to compare DeMint the the greatest idiot from Germany?

Republics have lost their bearings. Saying the same things that made them to lose the last elections over and over again. It appears there are only old men left in the party and they do not know what to do in the modern world. It is pathetic indeed.

Let's say for the sake of discussion President Obama is selling socialism - what do Republicans, Conservatives, and Libertarians have to offer instead? More Cheney and Bush? Rush Limbaugh? That kind of self-interested and buffoonery leadership? I don't think so. There must be a third way.

Socialism is the new Republican cry! Pretty soon they will be seeing socialists and communists on every corner as in the reign of terror of the McCarthy era. It's hilarious to see all of this rebellion against government spending that we didn't see when Bush was spending the money! I guess it just depends on who is spending the money. I think these legislators and ultra-conservatives would be singing another tune if their jobs were cut and they didn't know how they were going to pay their mortgage or feed their family!

As usual fear and slander from the Republicans just like they used to get America into the war in Iraq . What about an actual plan of their own?? All politics and eyes on the next election and no country first!!

What they propose is an aristocracy of the rich while everyone else works for rock bottom wages with no benefits.

Same thing was said about FDR, JFK, and others. Yet the out of control spending and mismanagement of the recent republican administrations seems to be fine with these people. It is truly unfortunate when we elect people of such profound ignorance as Sen. DeMint.

  24. Kentucky Democrat for Obama

Hmmm....Bush wants to throw money down the drain with tax cuts for the rich, an unjust war and a horrible bailout to bad banks and the Republicans hand it to him on a silver platter while Obama wants to spend money THE RIGHT WAY to get us out of the hole that Bush put us in and all of a sudden, we're sliding into that horrible abyss known as "socialism."

GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!!!!!!! The Republicans are doing the only thing they know how to do: play on people's fears. If they had been the "fiscial conservitaves" that they claim to be, we wouldn't be in this mess.
