U.S. offers $900 million to Palestinians

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton attends Gaza donors conference in Egypt on Monday."]
(CNN) - The United States has offered more than $900 million to help the Palestinian people, particularly those in Gaza, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced Monday.

"Only by acting now can we turn this crisis into an opportunity that moves us closer to our shared goals," Clinton said at a Gaza donors conference hosted by Egypt in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh.

"By providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza, we also aim to foster conditions in which a Palestinian state can be fully realized."

She said the U.S. aid package - which must be approved by Congress - has been "designed in coordination with the Palestinian Authority" to make sure the money "does not end up in the wrong hands."

Clinton was referring to the Hamas leadership of Gaza, which the United States has designated a terrorist organization. The Palestinian Authority, based in the West Bank, is led by President Mahmoud Abbas, whose Fatah party is a bitter rival of Hamas.

President Obama has not ruled out talks with Hamas but said the group must first renounce violence, recognize Israel, and abide by previous agreements that successive Palestinian governments have reached with the Israelis.

Ah Gaza, the AIG of the Middle fitting.

Over 100 rockets have been fired by the Palestianians into Israel since the 'Cease-Fire', and as soon as the new Israeli goverment gets settled in you can bet your last dollar that they're going to level the place and kill Hamas once and for all.

But who knows, maybe Super-Hussein will grow half a beard and pick up an AK-47 to defend the poor slobs.

The US needs to take care of home and stop paying other countries.

We have not solved anything in the Middle East in the last 50 years

with both Democrats and Republicans. Neither side succeeded.

Let Israel and Palestine settle it themselves.

    900 Million more WASTED dollars.

I'm glad to hear we are helping the poor people in Gaza. Lets not forget we are and have been sending money to Israel for weapons. This is going for humanitarian aid and I'm glad to see that. My tax money for a very long time has been going to Israel and I don't agree with their bully tactics. Finally Obama and Clinton have the guts that other administrations haven't.

What bother's me about this particular issue is that we want to try again to by friend's. History tell's us that this can't be done. We should learn for errors of the past. We want to give them 900 million dollars of tax-payer money. This is absoultly insane. We have people in this country that do not have a place to call home, who don't have enough food to eat, who don't have proper medical care and who are un-employed because their job's were shipped over seas and south of the border. We need to take care of our own people properly befor we try to take care of the rest of the world's impovershied. Most of the needy people in these other countries that we want to help will never realize it because the leaders of these people will reap all the benefit's and the people who really need help will never get it.

I hope CNN posts my comment. I noticed how protective they seem to be with Obama, so comments against his policies await moderation and are not posted. Why? Here is my comment again, please post:

We are in a recession. We do not have money to be giving away. Obama is a big disappointment, spending more money than he should in the wrong things.

I guess W was not as bad, or maybe Obama is equally bad.

I regret having voted for Obama. His administration so far is a joke, a 3rd Clinton term, with too much spending on the wrong things.

I will vote republican in 2010, no matter what.

It is simply mazing how clueless so many of you are about policy, where the money would go, etc. And you wonder why the US is in such bad shape right now? Too many dumb Americans!

As long as the deplorable economic conditions forced upon the Palestinians exist, they will do anything to fight Isreal. If you can provide carrots to them to help move them towards peace, we can move towards peace.

The recent incursion by Isreal was so one sided. Just one bomw that killed a Palestinian leader and his family was larger then ALL rockets from Gaza into Isreal combined over he last 3 months since the cease fire ended.

Isreal thinks by keeping the Palestinian's down, they can keep them self safe. They are wrong. BUt then again, conflict helps keep them fighing which is really what they want. They have no interest in a 2 state solution.

To Reality 101; you need to check your facts on the teachings of Islamic and Muslim views. They are indeed bad people. Any religion that call for the destruction of another is bad, period.

No freakin way! Not when American's are suffering! This fued has been going on for centuries and always will. It will never be resolved by outsiders. Giving $$ only adds fuel to the fire especially to the fruit cakes there are talking about. Take that $900Mil and build a wall around the area, no one in no one out and forget about them.

President Obama should not support either the Israel or Palestinian
governments. This money is better spent on renewing the United States. Let them fight and destroy each other Finally!!

ANyone that gives Israel carte blanche to do whatever they want in the Middle East is ignorant. The Palestinians need aid because Israel's only solution to everything seems to be rockets and revenge.
Perhaps it would do the U.S. as much good, to go to Israel and lay down strict guidelines to receive more U.S. aid.
Taking our aid and sabre-rattling against every other Middle Eastern country is NOT a solution. Divine right does NOT allocate tracts of land and ownership of localities.

$900M can buy a lot of caskets and burial plots for when more Palestinian women and children are killed by American missiles (painted in blue and white).

At least American Foreign Policy is consistent.

Ahhhh, excuse me, last I checked we were in a major economic crisis. We are in no position to be giving money to anyone. This administration is spending money like we were all doing well. And why would we give money to a group that wants to annihilate another country, and, consistentlyt lobs bombs at them? Why not give that money to the people in this country?

I am getting more afraid of this admin everyday.
