DNC chair: Limbaugh is the GOP's 'Wizard of Oz'

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Limbaugh is 'the godfather' of the GOP, said DNC chairman Tim Kaine."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - The chairman of the Democratic National Committee persisted Tuesday in calling attention to his Republican counterpart Michael Steele’s apology to Rush Limbaugh, describing the radio host as “the Wizard of Oz” and “the godfather” of the GOP.

DNC Chairman Tim Kaine told CNN that Steele’s backpedaling from earlier criticisms of the talk show host proves that Limbaugh is "the Wizard of Oz, you know, who kind of oversees everything" in the Republican Party.

Earlier in the day, Kaine told MSNBC that Limbaugh is “clearly the godfather, or the he-who-must-be-obeyed in Republican politics these days.”

“When Chairman Steele over the weekend pointed out that the kinds of comments that Rush Limbaugh has been making, hoping the president will fail, pointing out that those were ugly and incendiary, I thought that that took some guts to say that,” Kaine told CNN.

“But then the fact that he backtracked immediately leaves me wondering, okay, so is Rush Limbaugh the guy that's really in charge of the party?”

Democrats are eager to highlight the GOP skirmish: Kaine made several cable appearances Tuesday and released two statements criticizing Steele after the RNC chair called Limbaugh to apologize for calling him an “entertainer” and saying his comments can be “ugly.”

Rush can blab on all he wants, its only going to further galvanize whatever is left of the conservative right wing and bolster everyone else's apathy toward the Republicans. Mr. Steele is a pansy for backtracking his criticisms. Rush's comments about wanting Obama to fail were highly unpatriotic and dare I say anti-American. Rush and the Republicans are a broken record – all they want is tax cuts for the super rich. Americans are not stupid. What did the $1.2 trillion Bush tax cuts get us? Nothing but surging unemployment, failed banks, and total economic chaos. Obama has done a hell of a lot more in the first 30 days of his Presidency to fix this mess than Bush had done in the last 8 years. So if anyone is a failure its Limbaugh for failing to suck it up and act like a decent human being. But we should know by now that decent human being and Rush Limbaugh don't belong in the same sentence.

I recently heard Rush Limbaugh described as a corpulant drug addict with an AM radio show...The description was 100% dead-on and helps to both expose and explain the Republican thinking.

Rush speaks the truth and the obama news stations disagree? Oh My! I would have never thought that? Look Obama called out Rush during one of his annointed speeches. He should have acted Presidential like our last President and ignored the comments. He's called out Sean Hannity, Rush so what does he expect? I don't blame Rush for standing up for America. I wish we had a President more concerned about America than trying to be popular with EVERYONE.

GOP member bows down to 'garfield' so much. May be they should let him run in 2012

Limbaugh, what a joke. He is a drug addict and a hypocrite. If this what the GOP has stooped to, then they have gone to new desperate depths. Limbaugh and Coulter would make a great couple, they talk, talk, talk and say nothing of worth.
The Dems have nothing to worry about with the likes of these people.

The Republican party is shooting itself. We the voters want it to contribute constructively in solving country's problems and make sure that Congressional democrats do not take us to the far left.. So far they have given us the impression that they do not care for the country and want Obama to fail, no matter what happens to the nation. I thought they were more patriotic than that. The country is looking for a change and jus "tax and spend" criticism of Democrats does not cut it with us.

Wake up John & Mitch..dont listen to the right thing for the country.

Limbaugh is an entertainer. Steele was right the first time. I guess Steele thought Rush was an entertainer before he thought that Rush wasn't an entertainer.

Let there be NO question as to who leads the Republicans. It is Adolf Limbaugh hisownself.

  8. Really?

Democrats are smarter than you think. Rush is actually a closet Democrat planted within the Repub party to take them down. Watch them fall.

I would also like to mention that its astonishing how officials in Washington cannot work together. It's interesting that in college, one learns about the history of bad economic decisions, how teamwork produces best results, and how arguments can affect performance and outcome. Think about it, many politicians and their colleagues throw out their ethics, schooling, and common sense when they take the job. Look at this comment board, look at Congress, look at this article, its all ridiculous. Our goal right now is to fix the economy effectively and efficiently, how are we suppose to do that when two teammates(Democrats and Republicans) fight about everything. And to the people that argue against this, look in the mirror and ask yourself if you see an American, or if you see a Republican/Democrat.

He is the perfect leasder of the GOP – no education (flunked out of college after 3 semesters) yet thinks he knows everything. Says drug abusers should go to jail until he was caught with illegally obtained oxy and viagra. Claims to be fighting for the everyday person while making hundreds of millions.

    Rush/Palin 2012!!!!!

Why do we continue to make such an issue with regard to Rush Limbaugh's comments. I guess the public does not realize that Rush, Sean Hannity, Anne Coulter, Savage, mark levin, etal are entertainers who have found that there is more money to be made espousing a conservative point of view as opposed to a more liberal talk format. Rush is very adept at the basics of entertainment and even was wise to place his program in a time slot where he could be the dominating voice on the radio. Isn't it time that the legitimate news media, journalists, and politicians merely give Rush, etal, a scant acknowledgement and view his diatrops as the equal of mussings by movie stars, and pro wrestlers.

My main problem with all of these so called conservative voices is that they proceed far beyond rendering their opinions or reporting facts, but want people to take their ideas as the truth and not a mere reflection of their sentiments. I am a defender of the first amendment and the right to freedom of speech, but please lets go back to the days when journalists reported, commentators commented, and the people decided what was fact and what was fiction.

    To all,

While I didn't agree with Bush's policies and most certainly don't agree with (or like, for that matter) Limbaugh, please refrain from calling them Repugs. I have a Pug puppy at home and calling SOME, not all, Repugs is an insult to an innocent dog who cannot defend herself.

How can the Obama Administration be failing in less than 60 days? Do you really think a financial disaster as big as the one we are in can be fixed overnight? We'll be lucky to see some positive effects by the end of the year - and it wouldn't matter what the legislation was, it just takes that long to work its way down through the multitude of government levels and start to counter the current market inertia. It is going to have to be trial and error to find what combination of elements will actually fix anything...even the economists don't have a real clue.

Sure, I have some disagreements with the Stimulus package and the budget bill, but at least they are a DECISION, something that the GOP seem incapable of making right now. They hate what the Obama Administration is doing, but have yet to come up with a better alternative. When they stop yelling and start thinking and trying to work with the Administration, we will all win.

How come for eight years while Bill Clinton was president the credit went to the republican presidents before him when the stock market increased but now with Obama, who has been President for one month the republicans are blaming him for the declining stock market? What a bunch of chowder-heads.

I think Rush resembles "Darth Sidious" much more than the amiable Wizard of Oz or the Godfather. Sidious attempts to spew hatred and work on people's insecurities to get them to come to the dark side. The Wizard points to people's strengths that they already possess, in order to get them to recognize what they need to succeed is already in them.

Republicans are so bitter to see their party fade into the sunset. Our country has always seen republican administrations end in a dead economy. They didn't realize the magnitude of this one. They kept telling us that " the economy is strong" until it collapsed. Now they run around, blaming Democrats, and talking about spending. They didn't say one word to bush about his war costs. The word republican leaves a bitter taste.

Rush is absolutely right. Obama should take some lesson from Rush. Those of you that bash Rush I bet you have never listen to what he has to say. I too wish that Obama's policies fail because if he succeeds this country wil never be the same.

GO RUSH! We, conservatives, are 100% behind you.

No GOP or conservative commenting on this blog has made a single valid point againt the DEMs or for their own party. Facts are facts, the GOP has ultimately failed this nation, and instead of trying to be helpful, the have good ole Rushy badmouthing Obama and the DNC.

I will enjoy the next few years where the GOP will ultimately self-destruct. Rushy just pushed the little red button. Hehe.

IF and WHEN a Republican or conservative has a REAL argument on here, let me know and I will be happy to correct it with REAL FACTS.

After all, the truth is what matters to civilized people.

People here are so stupid they can't even distinguish entertainment from politics. Well, at least for the Republicans, they may be more than a little truth to it.
