(CNN) - The Obama girls still don't have a puppy, but they did receive another surprise when they arrived home from school Wednesday– a brand new swing set.

A spokeswoman for First Lady Michelle Obama says Malia and Sasha, ages 10 and 7, "squealed with delight" when they saw their surprise, playing on the swing set for almost an hour in the chilly weather.

The girls' parents arranged for the play set to be installed Wednesday at the White House grounds, within sight of the Oval Office, before Malia and Sasha arrived home from Sidwell Friends school.

Hey Sharon, learn how to spell. I see all of that education reform Bush talked about really paid off. And who cares what their parents buy them? THEY'RE 7 AND 10. They need to have some fun.

This story is absolutely delightful. Good for the Obamas and their wonderfully centered and grounded life. I continue to cheer Barak and Michelle on in their endeavors on behalf of all of us. It is a breath of fresh air to observe and feel their leadership. Thank You, BOTH!

Your ugly comments over something so simple and enjoyable are one of the many reasons people think of vitriol when they think politics. I guess you'd be angry if a mother on welfare purchased her kids ice cream cones for a special treat one hot afternoon.

Wow, I can't believe some of these comments. These are children! And for those of you who are talking about the fact that the 'dignity' of the whitehouse has been lost... You do know that there have been SHEEP allowed to graze on the lawn before, right? And for those saying this is irrelevant... What's wrong with some happy news once in awhile? Do you always want to become depressed when you read the news? This is cute.

Also, 7 and 10 is NOT too old for a swingset. I used to go out and sit in mine (It was similar to this one) when I was in high school. It was great for doing homework, or just relaxing.

i just love our president. he is the best father.
people on the blog are so cruel. our president is a dad first and husband that makes a great salary as our president. why shouln't he give his children nice things? jealousy is very ugly folks!
barack obama will go down in history as being one of the greatest [if not the greatest] presidents in history.
GOD BLESS OUR PRESIDENT AND HIS FAMILY.

Four American flags on the corners instead of the green ones would make this perfect. Wonder why nobody thought of this ?

Why when people are losing their jobs and can barely afford to feed their family, does this kind of stuff have to be in the new. Is this the new reality show ?

I believe that Media should keep certain things about the Obama family private. I have two kids and would give them the world just to see them smile and be happy and Obama and Michelle is doing exactly that. If some folks are bitter about it and make it a political issue it is just too bad. They are great example of a true loving and caring family. Folks who don't like it shame on you.

Of all the haters...this message is for Sharon LV: why are you reading CNN? You should be studying because you can't even spell through your hatred!

Shame on you haters. Things are bad for alot of people but I guarantee...when they can...they do something good and wonderful for the people they love.

Stop the hate...it's a waste of time.

More wasteful spending. Typical of the Obama family.
    This is REDICULOUS!!!!!

    __________
Ahhh, tis the season to vent over trivialities! How much does a swing set cost? Not much. They are to be seen all over moderate income neighborhoods, and what a good idea to have them in the backyard instead of sending children outside of their homes to god knows where. I guess the above blogger could use some of the money to upgrade her educational skills. What in the world is “rediculous” (and in bold too)?

Real american's getting kicked out of their homes because THEY made a bad choice. NONE of our Presidents made the choice for them. American's need to take responsibility for their actions. I bought a home I could afford. Those of you who didn't make good choices deserve to lose your homes.

Why such harsh comments? Lots of people buy their kids playsets and want to surprise their kids with a gift. He isn't much different in that aspect.

Sharon LV – First of all, it's spelled "ridiculous". Second of all, the Obamas have always done their best to give their girls a good home life, which includes providing them with opportunities to play with friends.

I think they (the Obama family) are demonstrating their solid family values in getting their girls something that encourages them to get together with friends, play and be physically active.

Besides, I'd much rather be hearing about this wholesome story than reading about how Barb and Jenna Bush tried to buy beer when they were underage ....

It is amazing how many haters are out there. I don't care if it's going to be too small for them in a year or two. They can't go to the park like normal kids can and their parents are actually trying to raise them as normally as possible. . . and I don't care if it's coming from my tax dollars or not. President Obama has done more positive for this country already than the entire Republican Party has done in the last twenty-five years. He's earned the right to do something for his children.
