A big surprise for the Obama girls

(CNN) - The Obama girls still don't have a puppy, but they did receive another surprise when they arrived home from school Wednesday– a brand new swing set.

A spokeswoman for First Lady Michelle Obama says Malia and Sasha, ages 10 and 7, "squealed with delight" when they saw their surprise, playing on the swing set for almost an hour in the chilly weather.

The girls' parents arranged for the play set to be installed Wednesday at the White House grounds, within sight of the Oval Office, before Malia and Sasha arrived home from Sidwell Friends school.

I find it difficult to believe that anyone could say something so hateful and negative about such a nice thing that the President and First Lady have done for their children. I think it is sweet. I remember my parents surprised me with a swingset when I was a child. Seeing that brought back that very pleasant memory. What I see are two loving parents who want to make their girls happy. For those who are so negative-didn't you have a swingset?

    PLEASE POST THIS.....
This is truly pathetic, that so many of you are so angry about this. It is really sad. Whenever politicians speak about the United States being a different and wonderful country, the include all of the facets which make us Americans. The fact that we are strong, and care for each other. Apparently, you obviously think that you're living in another country. It's nuts, that you can be so bitter, angry and hateful toward another 'fellow American'. 2 beautiful little girls, very loved by their parents, and all some of you can do, is say hateful and hurtful things. SHAME ON YOU!

You haters are hilarious! Obama could discover the cure for cancer and you would find a way to spin it so that he was:
    A) A socialist
    B) A terrorist
    C) A communist
    D) A fascist
    E) too elite
    F) a Chicago gangster, and/or
    G) not a citizen
And then say because of A-G, his accomplishment means nothing.

You people must lead miserable, lonely, pathetic, sad, angry lives. I feel sorry for you...almost.

FOR: Sharon, Strong and Impeach Obama..
    You are all so rotten!!!!!!

First of all, Bush should have been impeached for leading this county on LIES!!!!!!!

Second: One of the Obama girls has allergies and as a person with allergies I can relate.. Therefore the Obamas needed to pick out a dog that will not affect her health, and that dog was picked out an is headed to the white house.. The pick of the dog was already announced, learn to read and comprehend...

Third: Those girls are not BRATS, they did not ask for their dad to become president, you have a lot of moxie talking about small children like that.. At least they only got a swing set, other children got horses, and some presidents even put in bowling alleys and movie theaters.. I hope you have small children and enjoyed watching them open gifts in the past and I hope other people commented on it and called them BRATS!! You must have been a child that went without all your life to be soooo mean!!!!!!!!!!!

As kids growing up we did not have what the kids today are lucky enough to have but it is a different world.. Every parent want better for their kids than what they had, atleast I do.. And for the record he does earn a paycheck..

You people are sooo mean, I hope you pray at night for forgiveness for speaking the way you do about innocent children.

When times are good, we are all happy to read feel good stories, but when times are bad, we only want to hear the news? The news is dismal. We need other things to think about. And the Obama girls, whether you voted for their father or not, are a wonderful reminder of what is good about this country – our children.

If we all focused on the good for a little while, the bad wouldn't seem as bad and might even begin to get better. Afterall, this recession is in part a crisis of confidence – consumer confidence, so if we all start to look on the bright side – even when that is enormously hard – things might start improving a litle bit at a time. Take it from someone who knows how bad it is and can be...dwelling in the dismal won't help, but being positive can.

My cousin had one of those sets for her kids when they were younger ... and the ONLY problem with them is the plastic material the manufacturer uses to make the rope swings out of. Apparently after a year or so, the plastic tends to break down & will leave bits behind in your palms. Kinda like plastic splinters. The White House needs to do what she did ... get natural material rope & replace the plastic one.

Other than that ... those sorts of play sets are like the Energizer Bunny ... they keep going & never seem to wear out.

I remember when I was little and got a swing set. I remember when my children were little and their reactions to a new swing set. It's a simple pleasure that has brought joy for many generations. The only thing more American is apple pie.

"There goes the neighborhood. The dignity of the White House has been lost again by another Democrat."

Scott from Boston–Glad to see that you have just awoken from your eight-year coma. Those of us who were conscious through the Bush years are actually thrilled that President Obama & his family are restoring the dignity not only of the White House, but this great nation. Now that you're awake, you might want to brush up on: Enron, lies about WMD, Katrina, Abu Gharib, Guantanamo, The John Yoo memos, the purging of US Attorneys, Valerie Plame, and the general destruction of the American economy. And that's just for starters. That should keep you busy while the Obama girls enjoy their nice, new swing set (oh the humanity!).

Why is it that conservatives love to talk about family values but can't help running down those, like the Obamas, who actually practice them? I suppose we'd be better off with the thrice-married Rush and Newt running things?

How cool that the president and first lady installed a swingset for their kids near the Oval Office! I hope the first parents stay as human and normal as they are now. I can't remember when I last thought of a president and first lady as potential role models for the rest of us parents. Good for them and good for us!

Why are you complaining. The Obama's paid for the swing themselves, besides, Obama has a bigger headache than past Presidents because of the mess the Repukes made. Obama should get a huge pay raise.

Wonderful example of great parenting. It should encourage others to seek fresh air and exercise for their kids regardless of where they live. As for those who dislike this idea - hate will only make you more stupid and obese.

Cracks me up when the "this is news?" police come around. We are in 2009 and the internet is limitless with the amount of news people can report on. So I say, "yes, this is news" and if you don't like it, read something else.

No matter what you think of President Obama and the first Lady they have money to spend , because they had the motivation to get good educations , work hard. This every American can do but they would rather stand back and whine.Message to the President get a big dog to go outside while the girls play that will help protect them that is what my grandson did.Sasha and Malia enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are going to see swing sets spring up all over America now!

Rather the kids be outside playing than deforming their fingers with video games.

By the way, my husband built a wood set like this but not as big. If you took woodshop in school you could do it, too.

Obama is a family man? The most pro-abortion politician in American history, a guy who supports partial birth abortion? A guy who voted against a bill in the Illinois state senate that would have provided care for babies who survived botched abortions is a great family man? Does anyone else not see the hypocrisy that the Left is?

I have only one suggestion to the people posting negative comments on something as simple as a swing set for Potus kids.

Do yourselves a great big favor; since you cling to religion and guns, you know the suggestion right? Go kill yourselves so that decent people can live peacefully.

I have never seen ,read or known people to be so evil, even to kids. Why not do yourselves and the world a big favor and end your worthless lives? Talk about the scum of the Earth? You know who you are and that's exactly what you are.
