(CNN) - The Obama girls still don't have a puppy, but they did receive another surprise when they arrived home from school Wednesday– a brand new swing set.

A spokeswoman for First Lady Michelle Obama says Malia and Sasha, ages 10 and 7, "squealed with delight" when they saw their surprise, playing on the swing set for almost an hour in the chilly weather.

The girls' parents arranged for the play set to be installed Wednesday at the White House grounds, within sight of the Oval Office, before Malia and Sasha arrived home from Sidwell Friends school.

For crying out loud – it didn't take long to start junking up the White House lawn, did it? Watermelon patch in the rose garden next?

You know, that really should have a base 6 feet around it made of compressible material like wood chips, pea gravel, or shredded rubber.

A sincere "Thank You " to you ,Mr. President, and to our first lady. What a wonderful way for our leaders to focus on the most important gift we have - our children. My prayers for you and your loved ones are always with you. God bless you. "Ga" (my first granddaughter named me this way. It stuck!)

More wasteful spending. Typical of the Obama family.

Hey, President-SELECT! There are REAL Americans getting kicked out of their homes, and your building a playset for your brats on the White House?!?

    This is REDICULOUS!!!!!

How DARE he!! Doesn't he have ANYTHING better to do!!?? How could he spend that money!!?? Change has NOT come!!!

lol I'm totally kidding but I'm sure SOME nutcase will say something like that on here. As if having any spare time at all is wrong... as if spending a penny on anything is totally wrong. People on here are total drama-queens.

Anyway, building that swingset created a job or two for a day. Paying the company to build it gave a company some profits. The people who manufactured the swing-set had some extra work to do. Now, doesn't that seem so much better than just tax-cuts for businesses who ship business oversee?

This looks more like a very young child's swing set, however, if the girls love it, that is what matters.

Wait til they see their new eco-doghouse! I read about it, it's called "Summa Canum" (Latin for Top Dog) and is made from wood salvaged from Andrew Jackson's estate, from a tornado-downed tree he planted. It's so cool, has a green roof and everything. Old rocker Neil Young is driving it to the White House in his hybrid-converted '59 Lincoln Continental!

This is just AWESOME, kuddos to President Obama and First Lady Michelle for staying focus on what's important in regards to their daughters. The fact the swing set was installed in eye site of the Oval Office so dad can see his daughters playing is wonderful. It shows that his daughters keep him humble and grounded despite all the "naysayers" constantly attacking him as President.

It's a blessing to know that FAMILY comes firsts, and when the lights go out, it's FAMILY who will always be there, no matter what.

    I love it!

Wow – nice – I love the idea of President Obama looking out of the Oval office and seeing his daughters. Hopefully it will give him a sense of normalcy. Hopefully it will remind him there are families out there
