(CNN) - The Obama girls still don't have a puppy, but they did receive another surprise when they arrived home from school Wednesday– a brand new swing set.

A spokeswoman for First Lady Michelle Obama says Malia and Sasha, ages 10 and 7, "squealed with delight" when they saw their surprise, playing on the swing set for almost an hour in the chilly weather.

The girls' parents arranged for the play set to be installed Wednesday at the White House grounds, within sight of the Oval Office, before Malia and Sasha arrived home from Sidwell Friends school.

Rush may be the face of the Republican part, but the soul is the little people you see spitting on young girls getting a swing set. At least anti-Obama people come with a joke about how this one stimulus item you think will be good for the economy. And I am jealous. I just had a tire swinging from a tree, but the my dad wasn't President.

it's sad that people can be so nasty about the simplest things in life. over 50 & still don't have a puppy, that's your choice for whatever reason
how can you compare a swing set to mortgage payments
what a bunch of negative jerks

It doesn't surprise me one bit that all of you FAT AND/OR BRAIN DEAD adults with or without FAT AND/OR BRAIN DEAD children can't see the relevance of an OUTSIDE play-set INSTEAD of VIOLENT stationary video games.

BTW, No one needs to blast obama and the family for this. I'm concerned that CNN is missing some MAJOR headlines – such as...

The Dow Jones lost over 100 points (and it's only 10:00).

I guess I need to keep checking with Fox News for some real news.

If I want to know about the obama's buying a swing set, i'll read about it in the national inquirer or some other trivial news channel – we SHOULD NOT

  6. Huh?

"Hmmm, was this in Obama's huge earmark/pork spending bill? Wouldn't that be interesting if it was considered part of that."

Huh? What's the matter with people? Is nastiness the New Great American Past Time?

"That's nice but I'm not sure many people will see this as endearing. Obviously the first family isn't struggling like most of the rest of us, but they'll start to appear out of touch if they buy a lot of new and expensive things while people can't afford to buy food and pay rent."

"Well, it's Thursday morning. What kind of fool do you think Obama will be today?"

Politics are one thing, but one hardly scores points for one's political cause, by making comments that make Americans come across like
self centered jerks who believe children shouldn't be GIVEN

How many parents buy their kids playground sets without making the front headlines?? Yeah, OB is telling Americans to sacrifice & taking their hard earned dollars away while he & the family are swinging along. Some President.

Republicans who still believe in their broken cause, to the person, are morons. I used to think there were exceptions but no longer.

Get out of the way you creeps.

Since when does having a swing set and having a puppy mean a child is spoiled? Go to Appalachia – you will find plenty of swing sets and puppies in yards and those children are far from spoiled.

Did it stimulate the economy? If it was bought from a US vendor and/or is US made then yes, it did.

Thank you CNN for posting this. I enjoy reading good news along with the not so good news. To me, this is an example of good parenting. Enjoy little ladies!

Very Nice and it did stimulate the economy I'm sure that company that got the sale must have felt its bottom line stimulated.

Its sad that people are complaining how is this news? Really you want to know how its news its news because they are the children of the President and they got a swing set. Some of us are so jaded and sad that we only think news is when something bad happens. We forget that their can be good news and a good story.

These are two innocent little girls whatever did they do to your bitter cynical lives.

Grow up and learn to appreciate what you have because as bad as you think your circumstance is they are people who have it worse.

This generation of Americans are selfish greedy and self absorbed. It worries me becuase they dont have the capacity to sacrifice and thats whats going to happen to get us out of this mess. We've gotten lazy and fat and I dont mean physically fat. We need to be put on a lean diet and lean to extend our minds by thinking about others and learning to be grateful for what we have.

NOT be seeing this on CNN – unless they're recognizing what kind of audience they're now finding. If that's the case, then this is relevant.

    ...okay, HONESTLY?

Their parents just bought them a SWING set for God's sake. President and Mrs. Obama are just trying to give their young girls some bit of normalcy in their new cocoon of a life. There is nothing wrong with parents who care about their children, and want them to adjust to a move as well as possible. Everyone who has a problem with this obviously has not had to move (in this case a few states away) to a new place as a child leaving behind friends, and years of memories. It's hard. Darn hard, even for a normal kid.

I'm glad to see that the girls have something fun to do around the house (why they didn't wait until spring, I don't know.)

Recession or not, there is nothing wrong with this. So would you people stop looking so hard to find something to complain about?

Some of you guys are crazy!!!! The swing set is a rather frugal buy for his daughter. It is the same style swing set that could be seen at any suburbs. Kudos to the President in being thoughtful with his purchase (with his own $$) in the time of economic crisis. It does not look like excessive spending there!!!!! For the haters who have nothing positive to say and blame him for their delinquent paychecks BLAME IT ON BUSH!!!!!!!! Obama has just been in the white house for only 43 days. Why are some of you kooks blaming him for the economy. Jae

How long has it been since we have seen a swing set at the White House? If ever? I think it is really nice. Maybe other American children will be inspired get out and play instead of sitting in front of a T.V. It is also nice to see little girls act like...little girls! Love it.

I second that "big daddy" I'd rather see kids playing innocently on the lawn rather than the Bush girls strolling around drunk on them. But you know what they say the apple don't fall to far from the tree.

At first the family was going to get a shelter dog, now they've selected an expensive pedigreed animal. What about the many dogs waiting for adoption at the DC animal shelter?

Did the Obama's pay for it including installation out of the President's personal funds or did the taxpayers have to pay for it?

This is so like the President and Mrs. Obama to make sure their daughters come first and to insure they have as normal a childhood as possible while their in the White House. Other kids have swing sets, why shouldn't they just because they live in a fishbowl? The president gets a paycheck; he can spend it any way he wants.

they may be brats, and they may not. no one outside of their family will know that. don't attack their children and adults how do should feel ashamed. it shows the bad ethics you probably teach your kids.

they worked hard for the position they are in now. he went to law school, made it to the senate, and now the oval office. he has the money to give his children this kind of gift. what have you done to put your self in a high paying job??? he's not stupid enough to pay for that out of tax payer money.

    get real people.

They can certainly spend their money on what they want and those little girls will have lots of fun on that playset. However, as a republican, we have been villianized as people who don't care about the little guy and about wasteful and extravagant spending. This is a Rainbow Playset, we have one, that is a lot smaller and it cost $5000, so this one probably cost around $10,000. My point is, don't criticize other people's lifestyles and spending, if you don't want the same done to you.
