House Republicans warn of socialism under Obama

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Bachmann sounded the socialism alarm on Thursday."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - Some Republicans in Congress are continuing to warn that President Obama is intent on turning the United States into a socialist nation.

Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann pressed the socialism argument on Thursday, telling a conservative radio show that the Obama administration is "completely socializing the American economy" with its mortgage relief proposals and bailouts of financial institutions.

"What we've seen them do in the last five weeks is nothing short of a great leap forward toward than finalizing a place of socialism in American economic life," Bachmann told radio host G. Gordon Liddy. "We have never seen this level of socialism in the history of our country, and I think the American people would be floored when they understand the dramatic steps that Obama has taken for our future."

Bachmann called for a "a growth future, a prosperity future, a freedom liberty future."

"Will we be a country that will go forward with liberty, freedom and prosperity, or will we be a country that's mired in Eastern European, Western European doldrums, where freedom is limited and taxation remains high?," she asked.

Bachmann wasn't the only House Republican to say as much on Thursday.

Tennessee Rep. Zach Wamp, who is also running for governor in his home state, told MSNBC that the president's health care proposals represent "a fast march toward socialism."

This is just more of the same old lies and slander from the Republicans. I see Rep Bachman has been reading up on the Limbaugh playbook.

What would they have our president do? Sit back and do nothing like Mr Bush did? Boy that sure worked well didn't it?

Where would America be today if this Socialism argument had won back in the days of the new Deal?

Rep Bachman is a real piece of work with her perma-grin. What has she got to be so happy about? I don't trust a person who is always smiling; it kind of feels like she is showing her teeth all the time because she wants to eat us. What would she look like if she got angry? I can answer that. I've seen her get ticked off in debates with Democrats on CNN. You know what she does when she gets mad? She smiles even bigger!

I am so tired of this inflammatory rhetoric. If Ms. Bachmann is so concerned about where this country is heading under Obama, why isn't she offering solutions????? What real, practical good is this elected official doing for her constituency by these kinds of public statements? How many solutions has she offered for the deep and diverse divide in this country? When I hear this kind of McCarthy-esque rhetoric, it only strengthens my commitment to Obama. She can't even offer real criticism – just the usual hate-mongering. I end up perceiving her as yet another vacuous toady of a system that cared more for ideology than people. And anyone who would be influenced by this kind of empty mud-slinging is clearly unwilling to think for themselves. Lemmings, the lot of you...

we can give billions of dollars to countries all over the world, why is it a crime to give ourselves billions of dollars to help out our fellow americans it's our money... What's wrong with love thy neighbor as you love thy self??????? So what they made a mistake with bad decisions, it's not socialism when we give Israel five billion a year or more or now the Palistineian people will get 900 million or all the other money we shell out to the needy... I wish he would just give the needy citizens one million dollars each, the poverish one's of course. Now , we wouldn't be out of that much money, lets say about 150 million, now that's pork spending I could agree with!!!!!!! That woul stimulate the economy immediately, so just DO IT!!!!!!!

We've been headed there for a long time (public schools, medicare, social securty)...but socialism isn't the correct term for what we will have.

Americans are completely ignorant of what is going on. In our society Money is the must crucial element to survival, but 99.9% of us have no idea how the monetary system functions. It is not taught in our schools or discussed in the news. Fractional Reserve Banking ...WAT (Ponzi Scheme)!?!? I'm sure you know who Madoff is...

Ok, never mind that the bailout exceeds the costs of all US wars combined (including the Louisiana Purchase, New Deal, Marshall Plan, Nasa, the American Revolution and the war of 1812). Nevermind the fact that each individual American will have to pay $38,013 for the bailout.

...The government expects us to tighten down while they expand. They have succeeded in their ultimate goal, they didn't have to force it on us, we beg and encourage it.

They are right this is exactly where this country is headed and don't tell me I don't know what the word means because I know exactly what it means. Look at the stock market and your 401K plans; the market has dropped 23% since Obama came into power that he wants to expand with big goverment. Your 401 is dropping like arock. Think about it.

male prostitutes (ring a bell) the list of morally challenged (PC word) from the Democratic party is endless...For 6 years you have been bashing George Bush and now when your guy is in there you are mad because we are bashing him......Answer to your question....definition of socialism (Same as communinism, by the way) except there is no party membership. "Each according to his ability, each according to his need:" – Karl Marx. so work hard all you want, but the democrat next door who sits home all day is going to get just what you get....enjoy. It has been proven over and over that it fails because it kills ambition.

What we are now discovering with the Bush administration under Yoo, Rove and Gitmo, Bush dictated and did whatever he wanted. For the Repubs only problem is the Rich will now have to pay taxes something they got away with under the last administration. To have this country continue with the same failed policies of the last administration President Obama with his economist advisor is trying to bring things around. It is not his fault that the Big 3 auto makers and their UAW union reps reaped from profits and payed themselves billions of $ IN BONUSES. The de-regulation on Wall Street has proved to also be a disaster. So the Repubs are saying "if it's not broke don't fix it" guess what people we are broke.

Isn't Bachmann the woman who suggested investigating American's patriotism? Why would anyone listen to her? Look in her eyes, and you will see the emptiness inside.

  15. they didn't warn of facism under bush

so I wouldn't worry, if the Bush years didn't set off any warnings, then nothing will

    what a nightmare Bush was

Isn't this Michelle Bachmann the same Michelle Bachmann who proposed they have congressional trials to determine whether or not elected officials were "patriotic"?

This idiot is a modern day McCarthy, and he was eventually ignored after causing a ton of trouble. Maybe we'll learn faster this time.

Once again, another brain-dead Republican is running off at the mouth. It seems that there has been a pattern to this lately! Here's an idea – instead of shooting your mouths off and obstructing at every turn, maybe you twits can come up with some actual solutions. Oh, wait, your so-called solutions got us into this mess in the first place.

I don't think republicans even know the definition of socialism, or capitalism for that matter. When as the U.S. every been a strictly capitalist economy? Never, that's when.

Is there some shortage of dictionaries in the rural communities of our country that I don't know about?

I don't think the Republicans warning of socialism know the definition of the word. From Merriam-Webster:

1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
2 a: a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b: a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state
3: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done

I don't see anyone advocating for the above unless you do some creative word changing and distorting of the truth.

Oh yeah I can bet you 1 million $ that this stupid lady in the congress does not know the definition of socialism.
When I see the Poor republican making under 30000 year complain about socialism it just makes me laugh very loud.
Only rich people complain about socialism because they have to give up more money to the government and because they are so greedy and fool of self ego they hate to do so.
SOCIALISM BE IT if that's the only solution.
