WASHINGTON (CNN) – President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will head to Europe at the end of the month, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs announced Thursday.

The first couple will visit the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and the Czech Republic on a trip from March 31 to April 5.

The president will visit Europe to attend the G-20 economic summit as well as a NATO event, Gibbs said.

Brian- well, there IS a lot of work to be done. I'd think Obama would want to get things in order here before heading overseas.

Yeah, I'm sure that the Republicans will have plenty of nasty things to say. I wonder if they had anything nasty to say about the number of times that President Bush came "home" to Crawford instead of attending to minor little things like Hurricane Katrina. He traveled some overseas too, until it became clear he had not a clue how to act in someone else's country.

Just a pre-emptive strike: traveling to foreign countries and meeting with heads of state is a part of his JOB, guys. Attending the G-20 economic summit is important too. You may not have realized it, but the economy is bad world-wide, and it won't help us get back on our feet if other countries don't as well. They are part of our market, after all, as we are part of theirs.

You know, the interesting thing about Europe is that for the most part, they don't care where you come from, but what you are and where you are going. Even the royals. And YES, I have met some. My family were the guests of a Belgian count and his wife at their hunting lodge outside of Brussels. They were charming, and got along fine with my grandmother who had never been further away than Houston from where she was born. They are a heck of a lot less pretentious than some of our rich folks here.

It's so wonderful to have a President representing us who isn't a complete disgrace to our country and humanity.

Do you remember that speech he did in Germany where all those foreign people were waving our American flag with pride? That was great.

There is clearly a problem here at home. Obama does not have the confidence of the markets, of business, of the loyal opposition and its members, and many voters within his own party. No, style is not enough. Obama needs to demonstrate that he can be an effective leader at home before we believe he will be an effective leader abroad.

Please STAY IN EUROPE. Obama's incompetence is costing the US economy trillions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of jobs.

    He needs to go.

We could not have any better representative to put out for the world to see. This president has done more for the image of America in the short time he has been in office than most presidents during their full years in office. Thank you PRESIDENT Obama.

It's because the media is the same the world over...controversy sells and they know a few meatballs in Britain's "journalism" romper room decided to opine that Obama had slighted Brown by not engaging in fanfare and a buttload of pomp and circumstance (like putting their flag all over the WH, etc., the way Bush did). Instead, Obama had a working lunch with him and got down to business. Moreover, seems to me from the SUBSTANCE of the speach Brown gave, he didn't feel slighted one bit. It was just British papers trying to sell a story.

Maybe they should just stay there–they'd fit right in with Euro-socialism.

He needs to take care of business at home first. Stablize the banking bill, get rid of the earmarks, get rid of the pork and don't waste taxpayer money on a trip right now!
