Boehner hits Democrats after latest jobs report

WASHINGTON (CNN) - House Minority Leader John Boehner responded to the latest dismal jobs report Friday by accusing Democrats of pursuing policies “that are only proving to make matters worse.”

Boehner said in a statement that “Washington Democrats seem more determined than ever to continue pursuing tax hikes and pork-barrel spending increases” that won’t help middle-class families.

He called on the president to follow through on his campaign promise to fight wasteful spending by vetoing the omnibus spending bill and its thousands of earmarks. He also asked Obama to work with leaders the House and Senate to enact a spending freeze for the rest of the year.

“The American people want and deserve better solutions from both parties in Washington, and they expect us to work together to make the same tough budget choices they are being forced to make during this economic downturn,” Boehner said.

President Obama has been in office for a little bit more than 2 months. His policies have yet to take full effect. So how can anyone say that his policies are only proving to make matters worse? Why would you want to put a freeze on government spending in the midst of a recession/depression when government spending puts money in the pockets of working Americans?

Why is it that Repuglicans are willing to invest in war and "national defense" but they are not willing to invest in The People? Why are repuglicans constantly misrepresenting the policies of Democrats? Why are they trying to re-write history and saying the new deal worked?
    What's really goin on repuglicans?

I swear all Boehner does is complain, and in between complaining he is probably brushing his hair. Why does he have to be so critical, for the amount of time he spends being critical of everything and anything he should be behind the scenes working on a solution, I'm pretty sure that falls under his job description more so then providing soundbites for the 24 hour news cycle.

Obama can press his democrats on the Hill to drop the pork they're asking to refurbish their committee rooms, offices and increases in staff cost of living allowances or, is it just us average Americans that must tighten our belts and bite the bullet?

Boner needs to sit down and do a good 10th step so he can explain to us why he lost this 'voice of reason' during the horrendous free-spending, free-wheeling Bush years!

Anything that John Boehner and the rest of the old guard Republicans endorse will make things far worse than what President Obama and the Democrats are doing.

It hurts to admit, but Boehner and his cohorts have a big part of the responsibility pie for what has happened to America.

Republicans need new leadership and NEW ideas. Otherwise 2010 is going to be 2006 and 2008 all over again, only worse.

Gee Mr Boehner, your party really stepped up to the plate & worked in a bi-partisan manner with the Presdient on the stimulous package........I doubt that you really want to work in the true meaning of bi-partisan & not the Republican deifinition (to divide the country in 2). I would hope that both parties see the need to stop manufacturing jobs from leaving this country soon......you've rewarded companies for doing so well in the past. Please prove me wrong & do the right thing for Americans!

i have an idea for moving true bi-partinsanship forward in congress,,,,,remove the current leadership of both parties,,,it means reid and pelosi have to go(i am a dem and think they are terrible) but that will call the repubs to put up or shut up and the bonus is getting new people who are interested in getting this country going instead of name calling or payback

8 years of W. Bush, and Boner feels like Bush should NOT be blamed. 45 days of Obama and Boner feels like Obama SHOULD be blamed.

Is there anyway we could replace Boner with somebody who can be taken seriously?

“The American people want and deserve better solutions from both parties in Washington". Boehner, that's exactly why the American people voted the republicans out of power. You still don't get it, but I think you'll understand better in 2010 when you're voted out as well. Just keep voting no, you idiot.

In a pre-emptive strike I'll answer those who continue to say the opposition isn't presenting any solutions:

Housing – for those that are in foreclosure and have little or no equity in their house, they stay in the house as renters so they are not "thrown out on the streets (sob, sob)" until the market stabelizes and then they can try again to get a loan. If they don't qualify they find another place to rent and the bank sells the house.

General Motors and any other failing institution – go into chapter 11 bankruptcy and sort it out. Judges can scale back bloated union wages and benefits and break up companies that have profitable divisions. The financial markets will stabelize on their own by the end of the summer if they are convinced the government is not going to meddle. No one, me included, is going to invest in the market while there is the threat of the government changing the rules in the middle of the game.

Healthcare – enact a law that protects doctors and hospitals from lawsuits unless there is GROSS negligence involved. Healthcare costs will decrease because insurance premiums will decrease and many unneeded tests will be eliminated because doctors are not forced to cover their arses constantly. It will be a start and will show us where the REAL costs of healthcare lie.

Immigration – enforce the existing laws and enact tougher penalties against companies that hire illegal aliens INCLUDING jail time to Human Resources and line managers that fudge paperwork. Repeal the portion of the 14th ammendment that gaurantees citizenship to anyone born here and restrict citizenship to those born here to parents LEGALLY in this country or born abroad to US citizens temporarily out of the country. Require local law enforcement to verify citizenship of every individual with which they have contact and hold any that are not in this country legally for deportation by ICE. Stop all H1B visa programs until uemployment is back under 5%.

Welfare & disability payments – You must submit to drug testing to qualify for payments. Welfare should be limited to 90 days. Women on welfare should have an IUC implanted to prevent pregnancy. Drug addiction and alcoholism are the result of bad choices and should not be covered by disability. Disability qualifications should be toughened so that Boston firefighters who compete in weight lifting contests are not being paid disability. Doctors who commit disability fraud should face significant jail time.

There, that's a start and the only money required will fund LAW ENFORCEMENT!

Oh be quiet. I'm sure the American people would be better off if your presidential puppet and fascist party never started wasting $10 million a week blowing up a country that was no threat to us.

"“The American people want and deserve better solutions from both parties in Washington, and they expect us to work together to make the same tough budget choices they are being forced to make during this economic downturn,” Boehner said."

John Boehner makes $193,000 a year – NOT counting corporate contributions and campaign funds. Tough budget choices? What was yours – whether or not to vacation in Aspen, or the Alps?

Spending Freeze?! How does that SOLVE people losing their jobs because economic 'activity' is on a steep slide. What a Boehn-head proposal. Things are already getting worse with NO action. I still can't figure out how a tax-cut helps someone out of a job with no earnings?

If he was so interested in helping American people, where was all this tough talk when Bush was there for 8 years. Why didn't they come together then and do something.

No wonder these guys don't have any credibility with the public. The last thing the country needs right now is for the federal government to also stop spending just as the private sector has. The only spending freeze I would support is eliminating Boehner's position and few others in his caucus. Put them on the unemployment line and attempt to elect some replacements that actually have ideas.

Where is the republicans plan to create or save jobs?

I keep hearing them whine about Obama's plan but not seen them bring anything to the table but whines and complaints.

Put something on the table or shut up.. or is it that yours is bigger and you can't carry it in?

Yes, it's amazing how much damage Obama has done in the few weeks that he has been in office. The end of the world is coming because he got elected President.

Doesn't this man realize President Obama has ONLY been in office for 6 weeks?! NO ONE can stop the problems in that amount of time! If he wants to point fingers at someone he needs to point them at his party and himself! I've never seen someone SO unhelpful in my life! NEVER have I heard THIS MAN offer any ideas to resolve the situation we're in. He does nothing but WHINE! Pretty much sums up the Republican Party...

Note to Congressional Republicans. You and your guy ran this counrty into a ditch. Financially, governmentally, morally, and dimplotatically. Now you are complaining that the rescue personnel are not responding quickly enough. Lets wait until Obama and the Democrats have been in charge as long as Bush and you Republicans were. That about 6 years. If things are not better by then maybe we should listen to you. Otherwise put a sock in it til then.

OK, there does need to be some middle ground here. The repubs do have a point, however hypocritical it may be that all of a sudden they are so concerned about spending.

But we must actually look at the facts. The earmarks are 3000 less than the previous administration came up with. Reform has to start somewhere. Some of these earmarks have merit, while others have merit that isn't readily available. And most of these repubs that are screaming bout earmarks have a history of trying to get them. So they really need to quit it with all this nonsense.

And looking at those earmarks, most were set for things from last year, as the fiscal year doesn't end till October. So no, Obama can't just start axing things out to make a relative few people happy. He has gone to Cogress to ask them to clean it up and both sides, repub and democrat pretty much told him that they will do whatever they want.

Look, people. Something needs to be done. And we can meet right n the middle. Push the earmarks that work, work on tax cuts and everyone should be at least somewhat OK with it.
