Boehner hits Democrats after latest jobs report

WASHINGTON (CNN) - House Minority Leader John Boehner responded to the latest dismal jobs report Friday by accusing Democrats of pursuing policies “that are only proving to make matters worse.”

Boehner said in a statement that “Washington Democrats seem more determined than ever to continue pursuing tax hikes and pork-barrel spending increases” that won’t help middle-class families.

He called on the president to follow through on his campaign promise to fight wasteful spending by vetoing the omnibus spending bill and its thousands of earmarks. He also asked Obama to work with leaders the House and Senate to enact a spending freeze for the rest of the year.

“The American people want and deserve better solutions from both parties in Washington, and they expect us to work together to make the same tough budget choices they are being forced to make during this economic downturn,” Boehner said.

The statistics have been declining that is to say Decembers job loss was 686,000, January job loss was less and although high February loss at 651000 is lower still. The trend is for less job loss and as the money from the stimulus plan starts to flow it will show less loss for March and so on. Of course CNN wont point this out because that would be fair reporting. Mike Mullin London Ontario.

Is Boehner for real? The ability of the Republican party to distance themselves from the previous 8 years we are now saddled with is amazing. Interesting how everything becomes the Democrats fault immediately following an election yet he was the same individual who complained that 9/11 was Clinton's fault not Bush's because Bush did not have enough time to change Clinton's policy's. . .

Hey Boehner, I've got a spending cut for you, it's called the war you voted for!

Obama and the Democrats, whether they like it or not, now own this recession. They have done nothing but spend and spend. People like to compare him to Ronald Reagan for his speaking skills, and his charisma, but there is one big difference. Ronald Reagan knew how to get us out of a recession. He cut taxes rather than raise them. He cut the capital gains tax. He cut the taxes for business and corporations. Will Obama learn from history, or will he repeat the mistakes that Jimmy Carter made. So far, he looks like another Jimmy Carter, as he is fast approaching those numbers.

The blame game does not help anything, especially without Boehner accepting responsibility for his GOP's share of these problems from the past several years.

If House Minority Leader John Boehner spent more time facing reality and less time getting a tan (doesn't he know this can cause cancer?) he might realize that "cooperation" doesn't mean letting the Republicans continue their failed policies.

So much easier to carp and complain than to actually lead: What happened 2000-2008? If GOP policies are so effective, then why is the country in such a mess?

It certainly didn't happen in the past 2 months! But its sooooo comfortable for House Minority Leader John Boehner to ignore that little factoid.

Why are the republicans trying so hard to pin the issue on Obama? Do they think we are that fullish? He has not been in office 100 days. His policies have not been placed in second gear yet. And economists has stated that by end of second quarter is when we should start to see some stability based on what Obama is doing.

They can try to run from the responsibility of the mess we are in. But they certainly will not be able to hide. Thanks to the Bush administration we know the truth, and I personally certainly hope that the past administration is taken to court. I also hope that the republican party starts to become a little more cooperative in this situation instead of jumping every time to point fingers. I don't see the democrats doing that.

How can he blame that on Obama. It's plain to see that the republicans are trying to undermind the President. They just can't trust a black man!!!!

Boehner's claim to fame is that he can use 'pork' and 'socialism' in the same sentence. Where has he been for the last 8 years?

Anyone who understands large systems (or even small systems) knows that changes don't happen instantaneously. When your thermostat turns on the furnace in the morning, it doesn't heat the house in a few seconds. In a large system like our economic system, it will take months, perhaps even a few years for changes to have an effect. Boehner's lack of understanding of this simple reality discredits anything he says about the problem.

"Obama made it very clear that these stimulus packages and spending bills were going to take months to years to show effects"

Ya know, I recall something similar being said by Bush and Cheney regarding the War on terror...and what did you treasoness liberals do? Undermined it in every way so you could get your precious Messiah in to office. Well, you succeeded.... the war lasted longer than it should have because of liberal unrest, and democrats won Congress in 2006. It is all now on you, Obama, Pelosi, Reed, and the rest.

Of course it will take time..... but it will also take the right policy, and throwing money around will not put spending power back in the hands of Americans. Pandering to labor unions will only destroy industry even further. Propping up failing companies will fail as well as it destroys competition. We need real tax cuts, not the smoke and mirrors of decreasing withholding.

Hey Boehner. What will you say when the economy turns around, because it will!

Will you say that it was because GOP/Bush polices in their last days of office?

Or maybe due to the efforrts of the GOP minority in Congress?

    HAHAHA

I would like to think that most Republicans are intelligent well meaning folk, and that the only Republicans that post comments on this website are the ones who are deficient of gray matter between the ears. Why would you even say that the budget deficit is out of control because of steps that Obama has taken last 2 months? Why didn’t you speak up when we were spending 10 billion a month on a war that was sold to Americans by LIES? In order to fix this economic problem that he inherited from Bush, money needs to be spent to correct a problem that was 8 years in the making. Shut up and give the man a chance. When it was brought up that Bush was recognized as the worse president everyone starting shouting that history will decide. I suggest you do the same for our current president

First, payoff the 5 trillion dollars of debt left by giving W a blank check, and then perhaps, we can get this economy going again. How the HELL is Obie supposed to fix 5 trillion dollars in 3 months?

    @NBC

You are right. It took only 45 days for Obama to get things as bad as they are, and propel unemployment to 8.1 %. It took him only 45 days to shed another 2000 points in the stock market. It took him only 45 days to push through the biggest spending bill since the founding of this country, leaving future generations to be taxed heavily to pay for it. Yeah, you should be real proud. IDIOT!

if one were to speak honestly, both parties had a hand in this mess. while the rest of us have to worry about the security of our jobs, investments, retirement funds, and generally the way we live our lives, these jokers in washington have themselve set... pretty much for life. i say this, all these jokers should learn how to lead from the front. i dare these people to actually make a real effort in helping government spending by taking a pay cut, giving up many of their perks, and having to tighten their belts like the rest of us. i won't hold my breath as i don't have any confidence that any of these people have the guts and actuall principles to take this step.

OH so Regan got us out of a recession???? Gee your history sure is lacking!!!! I guess you forgot the recession of 1991-3, that was what happened with regan's his trickle down economics. Job loss is at the lowest since 1983, who was president then, and he had been president since 1981, but was that Regan's fault??? If you say no, then Bone-head will have to disagree with you.
