Brad Pitt in the House

(CNN) –- Actor and sustainable housing advocate Brad Pitt brought his pitch to the nation’s capital Thursday, meeting with President Obama at the White House and Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Capitol Hill.

Watch: Brad Pitt visits Capitol Hill

After a brief stop by the executive mansion to meet with the president and his climate czar, Pitt met with Pelosi in her Capitol office to share details of his charity housing efforts in New Orleans.

One thing’s for sure: policy conferences on the Hill don’t usually pull out a crowd like this.

A throng of giggling fans, mostly female, gathered to catch a glimpse of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" star as he posed for pictures following their meeting.

Pelosi hailed Pitt’s work for the city of New Orleans as a “model for the nation.”

“It really is an honor to have him here and I know for some of my staff, and for bragging rights for my children and grandchildren, a real treat for me as well,” she said.

Pelosi, posing with Pitt and South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn at the congressional photo-op following their meeting, said the actor had been telling her about how the homes his foundation has built built to a "green standard," with utility bills of less than $10 a month.

"It's possible," said Pitt.

The actor’s foundation, "Make it Right," works to construct sustainable housing for low-income residents in New Orleans who lost their homes in Hurricane Katrina. Launched in 2007, Pitt's project focuses on NOLA's Lower Ninth Ward, a region ravaged by the 2005 hurricane. Pitt shares a home in the French Quarter with his girlfriend, actress Angelina Jolie.

“I just want to say thank you to the Speaker for opening up the doors for us to come in and discuss the rebuilding efforts, the current rebuilding efforts going on in New Orleans, and to how we can expand this idea of affordability and sustainability which we think we have a model that works," Pitt said, amid a flurry of camera flashes.

Pitt’s companion Angelina Jolie was also in Washington Thursday, shooting scenes for her upcoming film, “Salt.”

WOW, a rich white man helping poor African-Americans. How dare he! He is a socialist, a communist and Anti-American. How dare his wife adopt starving children from other countries? she is Anti-American; she should have adopted American kids.

OK, but you GOPers, what have you done for America? Just because he is a rich white man it doesn't mean his is a criminal, a drug dealer, a political puppet; come on, not everyone is is DICK, RUSH and Georgie Porgie. Oh by the way, how many kids have DICK, and John McCain, and Georgie adopted? How about you tell Sarah P. to stop pumping them out and adopt one of the thousands of orphaned or abandoned Alaskan boys and girls.

Man, so what if he met with them. They are trying to make the world a better place HOW DARE THEY. I guess if everyone decided to help somewhere, somehow, maybe we would be a better country. My wife (who is white, but not rich) gave over 10 years of service to this country and still volunteers at schools and with the Salvation Army HOW DARE SHE, I guess. Stop adoring the Rush way of life and start loving your country.

Shocking. Hollywood comes to the White House. For all the good Pitt and Jolie do in the world, I still don't like the influence they and the rest of the Hollywood crowd have on the Dems.

I hope Pelosi wasn't too star-struck to hear his good ideas. I wish I had more confidence in her. Let's all go sustainable!

What a bunch of self-righteous hateful people. This is about people helping other people. The right has reached a point when they have become so full of hate they are not able to speak rationally.

It's time for our politicians to put aside their differences and come together to help each other rebuild this great country with new ideas new inspiration and get involved individualy to get things done, rather than just talking the talk but not walking the walk. The time is now to follow leaders like Brad Pitt who could have just lived his life as a famous actor but he choose a different path,he is the voice of millions of victims out there in New Orleans who lost everything and was left for dead. There is a light at the end of the tunnel because of people like BRAD PITT and BARACK OBAMA who understands the dignity and freedom that each and everyone of us deserves despite our differences. The time is now to light up a candle for each and every fallen soldiers of this country who did not have a second thought when they went in harmes way to protect our very freedom here in the USA which most of us take it for granted.

The difference between the people who support what Pitt is doing and the people who don't is one of literacy.

And there are some seriously dumb f-ing people in this country who can't read or just don't bother to read.

Why don't you dittoheads go back to your drag races and titty bars and leave politics to people who actually care about their country?

I don't care what people say I applaud Brad for his work in NOLA. He puts in a lot of work and people are so quick to judge.

I'm sure he has very well, thought-out opinions. NOT!

Should fit in well with Pelosi, Reed, Barney Frank and Obama.

  15. Obama needs experienced people to do his job

Who cares? It's the economy, STUPID! Hey, I have an idea-why not have Oprah Winfrey and all the other rich Hollywood people donate 95% of their wealth to the middle and lower class? Now THAT would be newsworthy....It is bad enough that Obama has no experience to run this country–it is even worse when he starts taking advice from Hollywood. Nancy PELOUSY needs to be replaced–as well as Obama–Hillary 2012............

LOL...he looked positively thrilled to be there haha! AND YOU THOUGHT THE HOLLYWOOD PAPARAZZI WAS BAD...TRY DC...HAVE AT YE!!!!

He does amazing work in New Orleans though, and the green, health-conscious low-income housing that he is helping build there should be looked at very carefully by community redevelopment authorities around the country as a model for moving forward with public housing projects.

Good for Brad – his heart's in the right place and I'm sure the people living in those new homes are very grateful for what he's doing. I wish I was financially well enough off to do the same.

What have any of you complainers and naysayers done to help someone in need? Maybe you should all just go back to your rat holes and not come out for at least the next 8 years.

The cost of going GREEN, will run you on a 30 year mortgage beyond belief! If you dont mind paying interest on the extra 200 per power bill you have for 30 years, instead of basically paying it as principle as the difference. I guess your economics and understanding are way better than mine. Besides people more money in your pocket means you will buy more toys which you dont need at all! No disipline in the world today, the work ethic is shot to heck and everyone wants 300 bucks an hour to cut ya hair. The generation of positive work ethics is gone, no one realizes that farmers spend their entire life to support Americans and end up broke and mortgaged to the hill.....Who bails them out! Independant Oil producers, yeah THOUSANDS of them, who pads their pockets when its a dry hole that cost over 2 mill to drill and frac? You people dont get it, Banks are in the problem they are because of FRADULENTLY SUBMITTING income or "Making it work" applications for a BONUS, then when it all bellyflops you want to cry wolf and bail out... Its called BUSINESS! You didnt manage you failed , sell out and go get in the stamp line!

No mercy, tell it like it is and dont hide. Get some gumption.

Brad P is doing something great... and he doesn't HAVE to do anything at all. Wish more people would be positive and DO something to help others. My mother is 74 and helps deliver meals on meals with a few other ladies from her retirement community on Long Island once a week and she is the driver... my sister is a companion 1 day a week for a elderly lady who has dementia. (These are extra activities for mom and sister...done for free) I work many extra hours at the public school where I teach in NYC and plan to work for free –afterschool when necessary if funding is cut to our afterschool programs in the Bronx. Others plan on doing the same to ensure our students will still have essential afterschool programming– all around the city, many are doing some type of service.

To the haters... give it a rest. Get up off your lazy asses and do something to help in your community... really... while you're at it, put down the chips & turn off the TV and read a book. What about dragging your nasty-mean spirited UnAmerican fat ass to the gym? Do some service... Be kind and help out instead of being part of the problem. That's the American way.
