Brad Pitt in the House

(CNN) –- Actor and sustainable housing advocate Brad Pitt brought his pitch to the nation’s capital Thursday, meeting with President Obama at the White House and Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Capitol Hill.

Watch: Brad Pitt visits Capitol Hill

After a brief stop by the executive mansion to meet with the president and his climate czar, Pitt met with Pelosi in her Capitol office to share details of his charity housing efforts in New Orleans.

One thing’s for sure: policy conferences on the Hill don’t usually pull out a crowd like this.

A throng of giggling fans, mostly female, gathered to catch a glimpse of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" star as he posed for pictures following their meeting.

Pelosi hailed Pitt’s work for the city of New Orleans as a “model for the nation.”

“It really is an honor to have him here and I know for some of my staff, and for bragging rights for my children and grandchildren, a real treat for me as well,” she said.

Pelosi, posing with Pitt and South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn at the congressional photo-op following their meeting, said the actor had been telling her about how the homes his foundation has built built to a "green standard," with utility bills of less than $10 a month.

"It's possible," said Pitt.

The actor’s foundation, "Make it Right," works to construct sustainable housing for low-income residents in New Orleans who lost their homes in Hurricane Katrina. Launched in 2007, Pitt's project focuses on NOLA's Lower Ninth Ward, a region ravaged by the 2005 hurricane. Pitt shares a home in the French Quarter with his girlfriend, actress Angelina Jolie.

“I just want to say thank you to the Speaker for opening up the doors for us to come in and discuss the rebuilding efforts, the current rebuilding efforts going on in New Orleans, and to how we can expand this idea of affordability and sustainability which we think we have a model that works," Pitt said, amid a flurry of camera flashes.

Pitt’s companion Angelina Jolie was also in Washington Thursday, shooting scenes for her upcoming film, “Salt.”

I have a question for Brad, How are you greening up the houses?
Is Gov. Jingl fixing the levi correctly now?
Was that part of the Gov. Stimulus proposal?
Was it part of his pork money?

You are damned if do and damned if you don’t. Why is it those on the right have no solutions but have plenty to say about others who do give a damn? That’s the problem those on the right only think about themselves first. Party first, Country Last.

Typical for those on the right to moan and groan about others not doing enough and yet they sit back and do nothing but complain about what others do by making an effort to do something. It sure beats doing nothing, talk is cheap and action speaks louder than meaningless words with no action to back them up.

Why Brad Pitt is always chasing George Clooney? When Clooney was fighting for the people and the cause of Darfur, Pitt jumped and started helping people in LA. When Clooney went to the white house to address the issues of Darfur, Pitt also felt that he had to be in the news.

Pitt, be a man. You're not credible and you're not Clooney. All plastic and craving attention like your mommy Angie.

Meeting with George Clooney, Brad Pitt, going to Camp David, etc. – why doesn't Nobama find a way to stop taking more and more of my money and start working – I guess Hollywood bought him the office, he needs to start holding up his end of the deal for them?

Private citizens did more than the Bush, Cheney, Rush, GOP did for them! Canadians actually went down faster to help than The Neo Con GOP Government at the Time
Isn't this how it supposed to work? Secondly Rush IS a private citizen, Thirdly, You would be surprised how much money the US Army Corps of Engineers has spent in NO. The problem is corruption! Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross are also private organizations that have done more than the government as it should be! Lastly you forget the inept leadership of local democratic leaders! I am sure that was an innocent omission ...NOT!

Am I really reading negative comments about someone trying to help people, who then went to DC to share his ideas with elected officals who may be able to implement this kind of thing for other areas that need help or may need it one day. I'm sorry but I don't know what is going on with society whatever happened to if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything. It aggravates me when people try to dictate what others do with their life, this man doesn't have to do what he is doing to help anyone but he is doing it which is more than I can say for the Fema trailers, then I read someone commenting on their adopted children unless u have adopted some children from here or anywhere else in this world what gives you the right to say what they are doing is wrong they don't ask for no help to raise those kids so what would ones' beef be with what they are doing to make a difference and help innocent children regardless of where they are from.

I think it's great what he's done in the ninth ward, but let's remember it was his choice. Admirable, yes, but let's remember he's been paid millions for his movies so he can afford to do this. I don't think building in an area that has the potential to flood again (the city was built below sea level afterall) is a great idea. New Orleans flooding was always a possibility, no matter what party was in the White House.

Brad Pitt is just another poster boy tool for this administration. Good ol' democratic propaganda.

As for Nawlins, good work. We appreciate that, but don't try to push your agenda through politics. Hollywood actors are just popular lobbyists.
