Congressional Dems have 'heated' meeting over spending bill

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Senate and House Democratic leaders had what two sources describe as an extremely heated meeting Thursday night about the spending bill.

Once Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid figured out he did not have the votes to pass it, he and Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin went to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office to propose passing a five day resolution to keep the government running, and come back to the $410 billion spending bill next week.

The two Democratic sources say Pelosi reacted with “anger,” arguing that Democrats should instead adopt a “scorched earth” strategy and simply fund the government at last year’s levels through the end of the year. Her point, according to the sources, was that even though Republicans have been slamming the bill as wasteful spending, many of them really have an interest in seeing it passed. This would call their bluff.

One of the sources says Reid and Durbin pushed back, saying the bill increases funding for a lot of Democratic priorities slashed by President Bush, and that it was worth another try. At the end of the tense meeting, Senate Democrats prevailed.

This meeting was first reported by the Politico.

She and Reid are both going to continue to drag Obama and the rest of the party down. A lot of people crossed party lines in the last two elections out of disgust for Bush and Cheney. If the democrats don't stop fighting and start leading, they'll end up with nothing in the end.

The Obama administration would be smart to orchestrate a coup within the congressional leadership. Show the country that change has indeed come to America.

Pelosi needs to understand that we voted for Obama, not her. She is turning me off so quickly, I may run back to the Republican party, unless Obama gets her under control.

Dems/Libs are all idiots. Why anyone would want Michelle Obama or Pelosi in politics is beyond me. Cafferty is a moron. How low does this country have to go before you wake up. Impeach Obama, Biden and Pelosi.

To all of you still wrapped around the axle arguing about Democrats and Republicans......snap out of it. This is exactly what the mis-guided, corrupt US Government wants. Keep the people fighting amongst themselves and they won't notice what a horrible job we are doing governing the nation. It is divide and conquer in it's finest form.

What we need is a Revolution.

I'm all for scorched earth, and if Pelosi had started that back in 2006, when we gave the Dems control over the legislative branch, Bush and the Republicans would have been completely discredited much earlier, and our problems today might not be so deep.

Another reason Washington doesn't work. One way the people can control this is to stop voting for them election after election. We only have ourselves to blame.

Sorry, but it's time for sweet little Nancy to get glad in the same shoes she got mad in because the situation is HERE and NOW. I get tired of the gutless wonders that are running our government. This isn't about who was elected. This has been waiting for whatever administration "won" this round.

The crying and belly-aching needs to stop. Period. Tell Pelosi and the rest of her ilk to deal with the issue and do her job.

Nancy Pelosi: What about your $250k trip to Italy? Instead of spending what you (a fourth tier BA) thinks is necessary, why don't you just admit that you, Nancy Pelosi, ARE NOT smart enough to know where the money should go and let those with a higher capacity for finance fix this.

Listen: Pelosi: you got your money by inheriting tuna. Pelosi did NOT make her money on her own and has NO CONCEPT OF FISCAL REALITY.

STEP ASIDE PELOSI and stop your unquantified Power Trip.

you are not the center of the world.

Open your ears for once not your legs or mouth.

When we finally get a President who seems willing to work with both parties to address some serious issues and move our country back into a position as leader of the free world, we get a loser like Pelosi trying to lead the House. Pelosi is devisive and has no business in the position she is in. Let's get a real leader in the House and get some things done.

Both Pelosi and Reid need to go!!! Get rid of both of them ASAP!

Pelosi is truly a power mad, ego driven idiot, and Reid has absolutley nothing to offer to anything, he's a total wimp and will roll over to anyone with a louder voice, it's just as well he took Durbin with him when he went to see Pelosi or he would have given her anything that she asked (demanded!) for! He reminds me of Chamberlain with Hitler.

Two more inneffective Leaders I have yet to see, they may not like the Republicans but they certainly like power, and their attitude is "We won. so there!"
They don't want to work in a partisan manner, they personify Bush's philosophy, "If you're not with us, you're against us!"
