“Calista and I will look seriously, and we'll probably get our family totally engaged, including our two grandchildren, probably in January 2011, and we'll look seriously at whether or not we think its necessary to do it,” Gingrich told reporters in Ashland, Virginia last night, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
“And if we think it's necessary we'll probably do it,” he said. “And if it isn’t necessary we probably won't do it.”
The former House Speaker told the New York Times magazine something similar in a profile published over the weekend.
“I think I’m closer to Benjamin Franklin than to George Washington,” Gingrich told the magazine. “I’m a contributor to my country and to my times. If it turns out that there’s a moment when it makes sense to run, then I’ll run. But if I end up never being able to run, then it won’t devastate me.”
Gingrich briefly flirted with the idea of running for president in 2007, telling supporters that if he could raise $30 million in a three-week period he would enter the race, but ultimately decided against entering the race.
Though he’s mulling a run, Gingrich said it may be time to pass the torch to younger crop of leaders. He told the Times-Dispatch that he sees the Republican Party “moving towards a whole new generation” and predicted that Virginia Rep. Eric Cantor, the House Minority Whip, is on the path to becoming Speaker of the House.
Gingrich is old news. And the worst thing about old news, is old news that didn't work.
So funny, when the Republicans lose it must really hurt. Heck all they are talking about is the next Presidential Election which is only in 2012.....oh but it's what year now??? Humm.....2009! Can we just all get along and work together for the greater cause!!! A better USA
Good luck, dude. You will need it. Your views are so polarizing it's truly awesome.
Is this the best the Republican Party can come up with? Read the book "Conservatives without Conscience" by John Dean to get a little insight into people like Newt before blindly following like sheep, please.
Great, another Contract on America
Another unsuccessful retread. Great, make it easy for the
Dems.
OMG–SOMEONE OPENED THE COFFIN LID...
Great Newt, either you will or you won't- -Brilliant!!
and what would make it neccesary? Well, You don't have my vote. Not that it matters. There are still people that would vote for another moron.
Run Gingrich run so Obama can beat the snot out of you. We know all of your dirty tricks and we are not going to stand around and let you have all the fun the democrats can play the game too. The republicans are in the land of the lost. We will call all of you the lost boys. Keep following Rush and let him lead the party further down the road of destruction.
Obama 2012
HAHAHAHAHA another right-winger wacko....
I really wish he run, this will be fun. Is he really read for people to get into is cheating ways?
Not if the Democrats have anything to say about it.
Talk all you want Newtie ... it's not going to happen! The GOP is bankrupt when it comes to producing a leader the Country will rally around and our political persuasion is bankdupt as well. You are just a slimmer Rush Limbaugh.
Please, please, do it! We desperately need a two-timin', bomb-throwin', trash-talkin', ideolog zealot in the WH!
“And if we think it's necessary we'll probably do it,” he said. “And if it isn’t necessary we probably won't do it.”
In other words, we will see what Obama's numbers are and if they are bad then I will give it a try.
Yeah, good luck with that.
Too old. The GOP needs younger not older.
Newt Gingrich would be a good for Republican Party.
Hmmm, I wonder why he didn't run this past election? Could it be he already knew that no matter who was elected there was no way they would be able to fix the mess the republican party created? ...and by party I mean political party, not the party the rich enjoyed while they had their idiot-in-chief, BU$H.
Gingrich is the past. He needs to stay out of politics – he has nothing to offer.
Please save yourself the trouble and Insult NEWT, we all know that the republican party will soon be obsolete and a minority in American politcis in 2012.
Nutty Newtie for President? Bwa-ha-ha-ha! Shake that GOP tree too long and all the nuts will fall out!
LOL. Newt, you've had an affair and you support gay rights I'm not sure the conservatives will pick you because they don't believe people of high moral character do things like that. If they choose you over Romney, I'd be very, very surprised.
The country, and the Republican party, needs Newt. Perhaps we can re-visit 1994 (in 2010) so that mid-term elections cause Republican gains in both the House and Senate. Hopefully, he'll eschew Sarah Palin and other non-substantive types who actually end up hurting more than helping him.
The RNC fired all the communications staff then went and told about five or six who were deemed "indispensable," that they weren't really fired and that they should stay on for another month but not tell their soon-to-be-former colleagues."
