Gingrich talks openly about running in 2012

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Gingrich is mulling a White House bid in 2012."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - Newt Gingrich is talking out loud about a possible run for the White House in 2012.

“Calista and I will look seriously, and we'll probably get our family totally engaged, including our two grandchildren, probably in January 2011, and we'll look seriously at whether or not we think its necessary to do it,” Gingrich told reporters in Ashland, Virginia last night, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

“And if we think it's necessary we'll probably do it,” he said. “And if it isn’t necessary we probably won't do it.”

The former House Speaker told the New York Times magazine something similar in a profile published over the weekend.

“I think I’m closer to Benjamin Franklin than to George Washington,” Gingrich told the magazine. “I’m a contributor to my country and to my times. If it turns out that there’s a moment when it makes sense to run, then I’ll run. But if I end up never being able to run, then it won’t devastate me.”

Gingrich briefly flirted with the idea of running for president in 2007, telling supporters that if he could raise $30 million in a three-week period he would enter the race, but ultimately decided against entering the race.

Though he’s mulling a run, Gingrich said it may be time to pass the torch to younger crop of leaders. He told the Times-Dispatch that he sees the Republican Party “moving towards a whole new generation” and predicted that Virginia Rep. Eric Cantor, the House Minority Whip, is on the path to becoming Speaker of the House.

Oh please do run Newt! ….. the press will have a field day with your mistress/wife story.

Please teach us about being ' honest' 'faithful' and 'putting yourself first ' ..... we really need you.

By the way ... tell your wife ... # 2 or 3? .. that no matter if all her buttons are button up ... she still is known as THE MISTRESS. Saw her on Faux News and man did I laugh.

This is funny... I mean I have never liked him but have always respected his smarts. However, I'd never vote for someone even remotely like him. Republicans simply should face it... They wont find the White House as their House in for a few decades. They stifled a Democrat President prior to Bush and that president ended up creating a budget surplus..Now they are attempting to stifle another one. The difference is that they wont be able to use a Lewinsky to do it this time.

He'd be 100 times better than the stuttering doofus that's the President now.

Newt would be the perfect candidate for the Repubs – his past has hit on about all they stand for as they stand in judgement of others. They are getting desparate......

To Dutch: Funny you said that he is not entitled to anything. You Dems seem to think you are entitled to others peoples money to bail at everyone. Steal from the people doing the right thing to give it to people who can't read their mortgage before they sign it. Socialism is great until no one has anymore money to steal!

This is the guy who started the verbal wars between Democrats and Republicans that divides this nation today. We need a healing voice in this country, not a voice of devisiveness.

Oh no not again. If we had wanted Newt Gingrich we would have kept him when we had him. He tried to run last time but got no takers. Why would anyone want to hear anything he has to say? I know I sure don't. I don't want to hear anything from the Republicans who helped put our country in the mess we are in today. That includes Newt Gingrich, Tom DeLay and Phil Graham. These guys created alot of the problems we are facing today. I want them all to crawl back into the woodwork and stay there. Americans don't need them or their services!!

He better have a lot of answers for why he left 2 wives in the midst of health/family crisis. He is of the religious right party but is now on his 3rd marriage and been caught cheating while his wife was in the hospital. Please can't the donothings do any better than this? Oops I forgot all they can do is rehash the same ideas and candidates. No new ideas, plans, thoughts, people. Sorry, we have been there done that and are worse off than before.

The best pick would be Ron Paul. The problem with him for most sad Americans is that he is one of the last real men left in the US political scene and who dare to say it like it is and this scares wimpy politically correct and sensitive Americans. They need worthless pieces of crap like the chimp they love so much since that is like themselves. At this pace, with the continuing rate of decay, where will USA be in 40 years? Where it belongs!
