Gingrich talks openly about running in 2012

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Gingrich is mulling a White House bid in 2012."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - Newt Gingrich is talking out loud about a possible run for the White House in 2012.

“Calista and I will look seriously, and we'll probably get our family totally engaged, including our two grandchildren, probably in January 2011, and we'll look seriously at whether or not we think its necessary to do it,” Gingrich told reporters in Ashland, Virginia last night, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

“And if we think it's necessary we'll probably do it,” he said. “And if it isn’t necessary we probably won't do it.”

The former House Speaker told the New York Times magazine something similar in a profile published over the weekend.

“I think I’m closer to Benjamin Franklin than to George Washington,” Gingrich told the magazine. “I’m a contributor to my country and to my times. If it turns out that there’s a moment when it makes sense to run, then I’ll run. But if I end up never being able to run, then it won’t devastate me.”

Gingrich briefly flirted with the idea of running for president in 2007, telling supporters that if he could raise $30 million in a three-week period he would enter the race, but ultimately decided against entering the race.

Though he’s mulling a run, Gingrich said it may be time to pass the torch to younger crop of leaders. He told the Times-Dispatch that he sees the Republican Party “moving towards a whole new generation” and predicted that Virginia Rep. Eric Cantor, the House Minority Whip, is on the path to becoming Speaker of the House.

You liberals all over this site never discuss policy for some reason. All your time is spent being spewing hatred towards the "evil" "out of touch" right. BHO, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barney Frank, Chris this really who is running our country. WOW Its only a matter of time before America wakes up. Unfortunately I think the country is going to have to go through he** first. Before you libs go and blame this horrible economy on Bush please do us all a favor and do a little reasearch on the backgrounds of Frank and Dodd. It amazes me how these two are not under a federal investigation.

one more thing... was everyone aware our stock market made gains on Wednesday due to China's proposed 2nd stimulus package of another $500+ billion? so does this mean the communist country is governing our country? to say our president makes our stock market tank is an extremism... hello, this is a global economy and global recession?

The former Newt McPherson was a devotee Isaac Asimov's science fiction, going so far as to see himself as a savior of civilization from some sort of cosmic catastrophe.Perfect leader for the GOP,they seem to be at home amongst the cosmos anyways.

This is the man who ran Congress when the government ran surpluses. I dont care what you think of his personal life, he has the experience to get this country back on track. Besides no one cared about Obama's personal life with Ayers, Wright, Farrakhan, Pflegger, Rezko, Sinclair ect........

I hope and pray that his does NOT happen, but if unemployment is at 25% and the DOW is at around 2000 in 2012, would anyone actually vote for Obama again? Just curoius. And no, I don't want him to fail.

Lots of skeletons in Newt's closet. He's just another ultra-right winger with ethical and moral problems. I hope the public hasn't forgotten how divisive he was when he was Speaker.

It doesn't matter who the Republicans put out there. They all follow the party line–Reaganomics. So Newt would be perfect, he knows the party line, he knows how to deliver the party line. It's all acting. They neither care what they say, or about the average person. They just want people to fall in line so they can control the government. Once they are in control, they do whatever it is they want to do, while dismantling any services that really help people.

The choice is yours America, I'd rather have a leader who cares, than one who pretends he cares, but really doesn't.

As far as I'm concerned, this is a moot point until Barack has served for 8 years.

    Obama 2012
    Yes we can, again.

Wow, the family values party wants to put Newt out there, great! He was carrying on an affair while impeaching Clinton for the same thing. Can you even see how hypocritical you Repubs are? How many others in Congress were doing the same thing? Who's going to be his running mate, David (I love hookers!) Vitter, or Larry (wide-stance) Craig? And you can have druggie Rush out there promoting you! (This from the party that gave Vitter a standing ovation in Congress when he returned after his, ahem, escapade.) Put that in your Contract with America! Pathetic.
