Obama's jobs plan: 25 down. 3,499,975 to go

caption="Obama heads to Ohio today."] WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Barack Obama headed to Columbus, Ohio on Friday to attend a graduation ceremony for 25 police cadets.

Obama has repeatedly pledged to save or create 3.5 million jobs with his economic stimulus plan. The soon-to-be graduates of the Columbus Division of Police were recently told they would be laid off due to budget cuts in the city - but the mayor of the city announced that with money from the economic stimulus package, the jobs would be safe through at least the end of the year, and the White House says those jobs were saved because of the president's economic stimulus plan.

The presidential visit comes on the heels of the February jobs report, which reported 651,000 jobs had been lost. The unemployment rate now stands at 8.1 percent, its highest level since December 1983.

The president and Attorney General Eric Holder are expected to speak to the graduation class mid-day Friday.

CNN, don't fail to report on the jobs that were saved. That was also part of the commitment.

"the jobs would be safe through at least the end of the year"

And then what will happen in January 2010? We will be in the same place we are now and the Columbus mayor will be back asking for another bailout.

This bailout has yet to create a SINGLE, SUSTAINABLE job and it never will.

CNN, I really wish you would stop trying to influence public opinion with stupid titles like this. You're part of the problem. Why don't you just wait and give the man a chance instead of trying to fluff your 24-hour news cycle? Want to do news? Try doing good news for a change and not inventing bad news or trying to create controversy.

Bush never tried to do anything to help the economy. He fiddled while the economy burned.

Obama's trying to do something. It may work, it may not, but at least he's not sitting on his hands. Action is better than inaction. Bush never understood that.

why are people standing by this guy? When ever I look at poles you can see that around 55% of people don't agree with the way he is trying to fix the economy. But then you read the rest of the pole and you see that 63% still say they are happy with what he has done. I have read many poles where people totally contradict then selves. I think people don't know what to make of him and are trying to wait and see what the outcome is.

Thank goodnes....25 more Americans to suck money from and run into the "poor house". No wonder Obama wants to take credit for these....

By the way, what is that, 1/2 a job a day created since he started. Let's not worry about unemployment at an all-time low!!!

I'm sure these guys were in training long before waffle was in office....this article is highly misleading; despite it being a measley 25 jobs, he still cannot lay any claim to them....

Obama the "wealth destroyer" loses 651,000 private sector jobs –

Michelle is serving up some soup for y'all.

Every little bit helps. I'd say that if these cops couldn't work before and now they can, that counts as a victory.

Saved through the end of the year...what happens after that? There's your problem with the stimulus...no long term solutions.

I hope "that one" keeps his mouth shut today – so far the stock market is up! Everytime he comes out with some of his lying, insignificant drivel, the market drops. Boy, he's not a bit trustworthy!

Messed up headline, there have been more than 25 jobs created through his plan. The road project in Maryland you reported on. There should not be editorial content in your headlines.

I am glad 5 policemen will get to have a job for at least until December but he promised 3.5 million saved or new jobs.
Does that include the following from CNN's front page:
"Employers cut 651,000 jobs in February, bringing total job losses over the last six months to more than 3.3 million, "
So forgetting anyone out of a job 6 months ago, is he going to create all these jobs just to keep even for the last 6 months of layoffs? Do we add the jobless rates each month to his total? So if another 500,000 lose their jobs in March does that up his ante to 4 million instead of 3.5?

Looks like the numbers are going in the opposite direction, guess you can call that Change.

    Solution # 1.
Consider this; send the INS into every meat packer, poultry business, road construction contractor, Mexican restaurant and Landscaping business in the US and when they are done, all those jobs can be filled by Americans with US citizenship and unemployment will be at a record 0%.

This is skanky reporting. There are more than 300 people so far, employed by the Stimulus Bill. If you report the news, at least do your research properly, before making a headline for rhetoric's sake.

Who did the math for Barry on this one or did he use his fancy handheld? BO committed to 4 Million jobs during the campaign – incredicble that he would come off that number. I believed in him but not when he lies. I'm waiting for him to vote down the earmarks in the budget – I though he was going to go line by line through the budget with a scalpel? Unbelievable.

Reports have come out that say he did not even read the stimulus bill – how is that possible? I would think a bill that defines your Presidency would be something you should take an interest in. It's more than past time for a true liberal president. Only 3 years, 10 months, and 2 weeks until we get a better choice than this organizer!
