Obama's jobs plan: 25 down. 3,499,975 to go

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/03/06/art.obama21.gi.jpg
caption="Obama heads to Ohio today."] WASHINGTON (CNN) - President Barack Obama headed to Columbus, Ohio on Friday to attend a graduation ceremony for 25 police cadets.

Obama has repeatedly pledged to save or create 3.5 million jobs with his economic stimulus plan. The soon-to-be graduates of the Columbus Division of Police were recently told they would be laid off due to budget cuts in the city - but the mayor of the city announced that with money from the economic stimulus package, the jobs would be safe through at least the end of the year, and the White House says those jobs were saved because of the president's economic stimulus plan.

The presidential visit comes on the heels of the February jobs report, which reported 651,000 jobs had been lost. The unemployment rate now stands at 8.1 percent, its highest level since December 1983.

The president and Attorney General Eric Holder are expected to speak to the graduation class mid-day Friday.

Does Obama really need to attend the ceremony? How much is this trip costing tax payers?

With regard to the earmarks in the stimulus bill, just as we had the right to vote for our president, we also have the right to contact our local constituents and tell them we do not approve of this spending.

It is the right of Congress to include these earmarks, so instead of writing angry notes here, call your congressman and tell them you disapprove. Just make sure those "pet projects" aren't something that is going to make life in your community better!

    Great!

At this rate he's going saving jobs, by the time his 4-year term is over,
he'll have saved about 600 jobs!

That works out to costing us about $200 million per job.

And obviously, there will not be a second term...

Safe just through the end of the year? We need something more permanent than that!

  10. Wow

At that rate we'll have "saved or created" 3,499,975 jobs in about 400 years. Way to go, Obama!

Yep, one segment of employment that will go up, GOVERNMENT jobs.

I'd expect an increase in law enforcement jobs since so many more Americans will be out of work that they'll probably have to resort to stealing food.

Nice outlook for these guys too, their jobs will be "safe" through at least the end of the year. Yee-haw!

They claim this jobs program is so strong, but he's having enough trouble trying to fill out the cabinet....I wonder why?

What a moron President Pinocchio is. His policies are going to create or "save" 3.5 million jobs. That may(and probably will) fool the democrats but it doesn't fool any intelligent people. How do you measure how many jobs it "saved". Heck, he could say he's done that already by throwing billions of dollars at his bailouts. Ok, he temporarily "saved" a few jobs at a cost of millions per job.

    Save the country. Impeach Obama.

Is this title really necessary? How come no one cared how many jobs were being shipped overseas during GW's watch.
I have hundreds of former co-workers and friends who lost their jobs since 2000 and no one was talking about that until last year. Somehow the President didn't get blamed for providing companies with the tax cuts that allowed those jobs to be shipped away so why do this now???

  15. Stop giving stupid speeches....

and get the economy running again. The stock market is down 25% since Obama's inauguration-–there's no confidence in him and his team.

When President Obama changed his campaign promise of "creating" 4 million jobs to "creating or saving" 4 million jobs, I guess I see things in a different light now. My husband has been gainfully employed for the last 8 years, so I would like to take this opportunity to thank former President Bush for saving my husband's job! BTW, does Bush even get credit for all those jobs he "created or saved"? I bet not! The problem with Obama's shell game is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to track how many jobs you've "saved". Of course, he's counting on a whole lot of Americans to keep drinkin' the Kool Aid! (wonder how that stock is faring!) Hope'nchange!!

25 jobs? and only spent how many BILLION?

Does BO get credit for "saving my job" because I cannot retire now due to the poor condition of 401 my savings? Oh, and by the way – I Actually saved up and PAID for my house. Since I did not get a govermental hand-out, I guess I am not entitled to retirement – after all WHO WOULD PAY FOR ALL THE HANDOUTS IF I WERE ALLOWED TO RETIRE???

    Thanks BO.

Has CNN canvessed all 50 states to see if other jobs have been created/saved? Is CNN now competing for Fox viewers?? Always sarcasm, negativity and egomaniacs!!

He is making a speech again, my 401(k) lost more money. Apparently there is no confidence in what he says. Could it be the pork and socialism he included in programs and the total lack of effectiveness of his appointees. No, its gotta be Bush and Cheney right libs?

To the mathematically challenged who wrote this article:

The stimulus package has created more than 25 jobs already so far. Do you research at least before you put it out there. Is CNN the new Fox News? There are many jobless people out there who will be happy to do your job better for less.

CNN, could you please tell us, how much it costs us tax payers, everytime the president flies to other states for senseless waste to give a speech.
