DNC gets 'overwhelming response' to Limbaugh billboard proposal

Conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh received criticism from the DNC for his remarks that he hopes Obama fails.

Conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh received criticism from the DNC for his remarks that he hopes Obama fails.

(CNN) – Citing an “overwhelming response” of tens of thousands of replies, the Democratic National Committee has narrowed down its top five messages from supporters to Rush Limbaugh.

With responses like, “We can fix America, just don’t Rush it,” the DNC is asking its online backers to vote for their favorite submission. The winning slogan will be placed on a billboard in Limbaugh’s hometown of West Palm Beach, Florida where the organization says he “can’t miss it.”

The responses purportedly poured in after the DNC sent an e-mail to its supporters last week urging Democrats to “talk back” to a right-wing radio personality.

“It's up to you to let Rush know that Americans reject his desire to see President Obama - and our country – fail,” DNC Executive Director Jen O’Malley Dillon wrote in the latest e-mail.

The DNC has not announced when it plans to put up the billboard.

To Connie who says "he didn't say he wanted Obama to fail he said he wants obama socialist programs to fail but this is the problem with Americans they are stupid" - Acutally, Americans are SMART enough to GET the fact that President Obama's policies are currently the ONLY POLICIES WE HAVE during this economic crisis since blowhard Rush and his repub cronies have NO IDEAS and NO SOLUTIONS of their own. So, if President Obama's policies fail our country's economy will be in even more trouble and people get this. People understand that at this time they cannot look to Repubs for any solutions and the success of our President if very important.

Remember that when you point the finger there is a finger pointing back at yourselves. For all those that claim that Rush is a blowhard and hatemonger, it would appear that there are just as many on this site.

I did not vote for Obama, and am willing to give him a shot. However, I do not agree with some of his policies and DO WANT THOSE TO FAIL. As a reminder, many of you here wanted GW Bush to fail and were very open about that, so why now the change. Again, I don't agree with some of his policies (e.g. international funding for family planning, stem cell research ( w/ no boundaries, tax policies at this point. An extra $10-15 a week does not do me any good right now. Oh wait maybe it does I guess I could buy a couple pounds of hamburger or perhaps 4 gallons of gas. At any rate, the one policy that I hope Obama does prevail right now is pay for performance for teachers.

    Here's a slogan for consideration:

It's impossible to fix problems, using the same conscience that created them..

this billboard slogan is just as childish as Limbaugh's behaviors. both parties, or at least one of them should stop this pathetic political game.

Attention DNC: Get to work! We have too many serious problems to deal with. Don't squander you good graces with voters by dragging out inconsequencial rivalries.

    @ Gary H writes,

"Personally I think the billboard is an idiotic idea but I'm getting tired of you idiot saying that if someone takes offense to whatever mindless blather comes out of so called conserfvatives mouths they are trying to take away your freedom of speach.

Dude – re-read what you just wrote. When you call someone an "idiot" you MAY want to spell-check and use proper english & grammar.

By the way... you wouldn't feel it innapropriate if the GOP bought a billboard – put your picture up – and make some insulting remarks about you, right?

THAT wouldn't be crossing the lines, right?

The DNC can attempt to marginalize Rush, but he can't be diminished.
He is a true American Icon. Any intelligent person can filter Rush for themselves, and see what he is all about. He is amazing and no one can deny that. The DNC has really lost it this time, if they dare to think that they can 'crush Rush"… they are delusional and basically dumber than dirt.

i have to agree there are way too many fools who listen to Rush and take his word as gospel truth, they were called "ditto heads" for a reason, they couls (and still can) only repeat the ignorance of this man and call it intelligence. The fact is rush is wrong on many issues he speaks out about, he says social programs do not work when funded by the government and yet he has been proven wrong time and again. he says trickle down economics works yet cries about potholes on the roads and cannot explain why big oil was cutting jobs while posting record profits. the facts are he is wrong but there will always be those who would rather follow someone who claims to be right on all subjects than think for themselves (and yes I know the extreme left is just as bad). Most people want to be led, they find thinking too hard, however most people eventually learn that extremism is not a cure for problems but simply another method of creating more problems and so the general population ahs rejected rush's foolishness, the extreme leftand the extreme right, however, need rush and his ilk and therefore encourage him as a rallying point.

Typical liberal DNC.....quote Rush as saying he wanted Obama to fail (his policies, stupid!), then go ahead and add something that he has never, ever said: that he wants the country to fail.

Liberals are so pathetic it is truly unbelievable they can dress themselves in the morning.

Richard, I suppose when the time comes, you will forgo collecting Social Security payments, as they are the purest definition of socialism: a tax that transfers wealth from those who work to those who don't. This program was branded as outright socialism when it was created in the 1930's. Of course you will fall back on the tired argument that this is money you paid into a fund that you later get back. But if you look at how it works, you will see that it does not work that way. I expect you will accept the rewards of a socialist program as long as the money comes your way. Medicare is another socialist program. Will you forgo that also? Or are you just another avaricious hypocrite?

Ummmm..... Cynthia. I don't mean to rain on your parade, but Bush DID fail this country. He lied about the war in Iraq. His failed economic policies helped to propel us into the mess we are in. Rush Limbaugh is a man who only tells people what he wants them to hear. He ignores important facts and knowledge when he spews out the garbage he does on his radio show. I don't understand how anyone can listen to this man and actually believe a word he says.

    Response to Logan:

Bush may have failed this country in certain aspects, but he certainly had the help of BOTH democrats and Republicans. However, why don't you go back to 2000, for 8 yrs we heard about wanting Bush to fail. Obama has only been in office for a few months and as soon as anyone starts to criticize him they are viewed as hatemongers that want Obama to fail... Both parties continue to fail this country.
