Chuck Norris for president … of Texas

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/images/03/11/art.norris0311.gi.jpg caption="If the State of Texas ever left the Union, Chuck Norris is interested in being president of the newly independent country."] (CNN) – Actor Chuck Norris has his eyes on the presidency, but not the White House. Norris wrote that he would be interested in becoming the president of Texas, if the state were ever to secede from the Union.

“I may run for president of Texas,” Norris wrote Monday in a column posted at WorldNetDaily. “That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not me, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star state, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state.”

The actor claimed “thousands of cell groups will be united around the country in solidarity over the concerns for our nation” and said that if states decide to secede from the union, that Texas would lead the way.

“Anyone who has been around Texas for any length of time knows exactly what we'd do if the going got rough in America,” Norris wrote.

“Let there be no doubt about that.” Norris was a strong supporter of Mike Huckabee’s presidential bid, and he helped to draw attention to the former Arkansas governor’s campaign.

Let them go as far as I'm concerned. I've been to Texas and it is hot, bug ridden and full of bigoted people stomping around in high heeled boots and huge hats congratulating each other for being the toughest guys in the country.

    Texas sucks......

I hardly ever say this, but....what an idiot!!!! Another one of those "my way or the highway" conservatives. Here's a suggestion, Chuckie...how about letting Mexico have texas back. We'll go with just 49 states.

Chuck Norris' infinite wisdom could cure us of the economic crisis. Too bad Chuck Norris' infinite wisdom is only for Chuck Norris.

I find it funny that the left wing media at a time our country is in great trouble keeps trying to divert attention away from the mistakes of the Obama Administration. Every day a story about Rush or Palin and now we even have to cover what "Walker Texas Ranger" said.

How about some stories about the problems of the party in power, in case you don't know it is the Democratic Party!

A little Texas history to explain where Norris was coming from . . . When Texas joined the union, it reserved the right to either secede (leave the union) or divide itself into five states. Those rights were revoked when Texas re-joined the Union after the Civil War. Many Texans still believe we have the right to legally secede. Spend some time in Texas and you'll understand why it has nationalistic tendencies. Flags flown over Texas: Spain, France, Mexico, Republic of Texas, USA, Confederate States, USA.

Check your Texas history people. Texas is the ONLY state in the union that can become a separate country. It could secede legally.

Basically every reason our founding fathers listed in the Declaration of Independence as a reason to break away from the crown can be listed by states today as reasons why they want to break away from the union.

Hmm... I think Mr. Norris' entertainment career just came to a complete and abrupt end. No movie producer or network sponsor will be touching him with a ten-foot pole anymore. He just pulled the political equivelant of a Chris Brown.

I vote for succession now! Chuck can round up all the dissidents and troublemakers and deal with them personally. No more coddling in a cushy prison.

All joking aside, Chuck Norris in making this statement is bordering on treason as this statement could be construed as a endorsement for the state of Texas to engage in war against the United States.

    From the U.S. Constitution
    Article 3, Section 3 – Treason

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.
